Quiet and friendly place. Better for campers.
We stayed one night as our AC was down and we had a Saturday trip planned past this park. We stayed with our membership and booked two nights, so we could check out late on Saturday. Spots were pretty abundant, and we found one by the pool. This is a “pick your spot” when you get there kind of place. Lots of long term guests, but not surprised. Great staff and pool was nice for the kids.
Can’t beat the convenience & amenities of the Disney parks are on your itinerary. Super cost effective and direct access to magic kingdom and easy access to all the others. Sites were big, clear and clean. Amenities were wonderful. I’d stay here even if we didn’t do a Disney park. There are so many sites and yes there are people around but there’s serious vegetation between all the sites that you have plenty of privacy. Constant ground crews, sanitation work and transportation options. Pools, restaurants, shops and fun activities going on all the time. We loved it.
clean, naturally and quiet
no wlan and good mobil connection
restrooms and laundry are o.k.
rangers are super and nice
playground and a small beach to put your feet into water.
Friendly staff and well maintained Park and facilities with great fishing and an amazing view of Lake George.
My wife and I decided last year to full time RV. We were already living in Ocala and we wanted to remain in the area. We discovered Silver Springs RV and are so glad we did. Everyone here, especially the staff, was so welcoming and friendly. SSRV is definitely going to be home for a long time.
Why contemplate leaving the creature comforts of home when you can just haul everything that you love most to a place that provides all of the concrete paved, easy-to-access amenities that you likely have at home in the first place? If you find yourself in this dilemma, no worries, Orlando/ Kissimmee KOA has all of your manufactured outdoor camping needs covered … and what’s perhaps most interesting is that you won’t even have to drive out of the concrete jungle to encounter this experience, in fact, it’s right off a major 4-lane highway (HWY 192).
So, if you are dreaming of escaping your domesticated life for the thrills of an outdoor camping adventure that will have you appreciating the best of what nature has to offer, then just be forewarned, this is not that place. But if you are simply looking for a change of scenery and want to be near all of the action and attractions here in Central Florida’s ‘Magic City’ and want a different experience than paying overpriced rates at Tiki-hut themed entertainment hotels and relish the idea of dusting off your RV or unpacking your tent in a pseudo nature environment complete with all the astro turf your dog can poop on within a confined, fenced-in setting, then this KOA (and let’s be frank, ANY KOA) has you covered.
As far as amenities go, it’s a KOA, so there’s going to be more amenities here than you can shake a stick at. These include: heated in-ground medium-sized pool complete with tiled patio, lounge chaise chairs, tables with umbrellas and regular chairs, water-rinsing station, as well as a jacuzzi / spa, propane refilling station, bike rentals, 134’ max length slots, WiFi, pavilion, Kamp K9, firewood for sale, 24 hour laundr-O-mat, picnic tables, community fire pits, on-site market, recreation office, life-size Jenga, designated trash areas, fitness center, playground, dog wash, public bus service, basketball court, EV chargers, jump pad, taxi service back-in and pull-through perfectly paved, level concrete RV sites with full hook-ups (30 / 50 amp electric, water and sewage). There’s even RV sites that are dubbed ‘Deluxe,’ which are larger and come with a paved connected patio.
No RV? And REALLY don’t want to have an experience that is different than living at home? Even here at this KOA, that’s not a problem, where the proprietors will easily rent you a deluxe cabin, if there is one available. These 1BR or 2BR A/C cooled Deluxe Cabins sleep 4, 6 or 8 people and come with bunk bed set, futon / sofa sleeper and a queen-sized bed along with a private bath and shower, TV with cable offering over 20 channels, some with EV chargers, patio w/ charcoal or gas BBQ grill and fire pit, front porch with patio furniture and chairs, refrigerator, fresh linens, paw pen for the pups and a partial or full kitchen. They even have rustic cabins that are cheaper and don’t come with all the thrills for those that want some degree of ‘roughing’ it, so this means no kitchen and no bathroom or showers, although there is full bed, bunk bed, TV, mini-refrigerator, A/C patio furniture, brick fire pit with cooking grate.
Insider’s tips? Here’s a few: (1) To continue with the simple, easy-to-access, manufactured experience theme here, for those that grow tired of trying to conjure up that next meal for the kiddos, who are grumbling about making every meal, head on over to any one of these nearby drive-thru windows or curb-side meal offerings: McDonald’s, Panda Express, Applebee’s, Steak ‘n Shake and Wendy’s; (2) If you want to heighten that suburban culinary experience you all have been craving though, I really do rate the silverware-free dining experience that is Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament, which is literally just down the road and is actually a lot of fun for the kiddos and adults alike; (3) Should you find yourself in need of anything that you either forgot or may have run out of, then fear not, there’s a Sam’s Club that is in walking distance from this KOA and further south that definitely requires a drive, there’s a Walmart Supercenter; (4) I’ve noticed that this place has SIGNIFICANT discounts if you simply plan in advance – so for example, during the months of March OR April (it’s January now), they’re offering a whopping 25% discount; and (5) If you are looking for a slice of nature’s paradise, then I highly recommend driving a bit north to Wekiwa Springs, where you’ll be able to enjoy one of the most amazing springs in all of Florida where the water is 72 degrees year round.
Happy Camping!
Campground is basic, very few sewer spots but there is a dump station. Big rig friendly, several pull thru spots, easy paved entry, gravel sites, I think all are 50/30. Plenty of space between sites. Clean bathroom, washer/dryer, soda machine. Very dark at night which I love. No lights except the bath house. Dog poo bag stations. Very friendly staff (Melinda & John, camp hosts were amazing) 1 mile from amazing kayaking. Great, woodsy hiking trails. Maybe 3 miles to Publix/Wawa.
Loved this campground. We had sites 22 & 24. Site 22 has lots of sun; site 24 was full shade all day. I thought site 20 was the best. All campsites are very roomy. Bring your paddleboard or kayak. We drove to Silver Springs park and put in. Lazy river ride for 2 miles where we got out at the River trail. If you do this, bring your kayak wheels as it is a 1 mile walk back to the campground (or 1/2 mile to the River Trail trailhead). Then went to pick up truck where we started. Highly recommend this campground. There are also lots of trails to hike, but it was so hot when we were there we did not do any but the river trail.
So much to do you don't even need to go to the theme parks if you don't want to. A little pricey but worth it in my opinion https://youtu.be/3qPP3GaZ_UU
Had a 2 night tent camp stay here during January. Great option for family reunions, we had my girlfriend’s 30th here, and with our rented golf cart, had no problems escorting our guests to our campsite to enjoy a camp cookout with us at our campsite. Was definitely an authentic Disney experience, with a never ending list of activities with plenty to keep kids and kids at heart busy, which we didn’t partake in since we were enjoying our campsite.
This campground is nice the sites are nice sized and level. The campground is not located at the head springs where the glass bottom boats are and kayak rentals. This makes it even better. The campground is quiet. It's a 15 minute drive to the head springs.
We had our own Kayaks so we put in at the head springs and paddled down to the campground. It's a 2 to 2 1/2 hour trip or more because of all the beautiful landscape and the wildlife. At the campground exit to get out of the river you have to have wheels to transport the kayaks back to the parking lot. It's about a 1 mile hike pulling the kayak.
You can also do a longer trip an paddle further to Rays Wayside. It's less busy paddling that part of the river. You will need to leave a vehicle parked at Rays Wayside to get back to the headsprings. There is a company for $10 per person that will pick you up there and brings you back. Silver Springs charges $55 per person.
I was in site 53 and there are trails you can hike from behind many of the campsites. There is a cracker house village and a great museum with artifacts and giant skeletons of big creatures. Lots of fossils and arrowheads. The Museum is only open on weekends.
The bath houses are very clean and if cold out nice hot heaters. There is a washer and dryer at the bath houses too.
They sell firewood and ice at the campground. You use a QR code scanner to purchase it. The wood is nice and burns like wood should.
I went to Silver springs as a kid and always thought of it as a tourist trap. I never had a desire to camp there yet I will say I have changed my mind and have already booked for next year.
Florida residents have a one month booking advantage which started this past January. If your a Florida senior resident you get 1/2 off the price. The campsite hang tag gets you into the headspring for free.
The park is nice I will visit again.
I simply can't say enough about Ft. Wilderness. It will always be a part of the magic of our Disney family vacations.
We're members of Thousand Trails but we had to pay extra to stay here. It was a place to stay, nothing special. If you are there in the winter, the pool was cold and closes early. It is basically a place to stay and not very scenic. There are a lot of full-timers with their 'stuff.' The people in the site next to us had an outdoor shed with tons of junk everywhere. The park was close to Disneyworld and we dropped about $400 on a day at Epcot and had to drink our way through all the countries to make it worth our time since many of the attractions/rides were closed. I had fond memories of times at Disneyworld in the past with my kids but now, it feels like an artificial money suck. If you are in the area, I would recommend one of the other RV parks that has more to offer.
Perhaps the nicest park we've stayed at. We arrived after dark in the midst of a torrential 3-inch downpour, but the next morning there was no mud or standing water. Amazing! Shower facilities are recently remodeled and impeccable, with new wall tiles and epoxy floors throughout. Laundry machines take coin or credit card. They have plastic bag dispensers for dog cleanup. Such features make Lake Louisa particularly suitable for an extended stay. All the RV lots in our loop were L-shaped pads with an extension for the picnic table. Sites are spacious and open. Nice mix of back-in and pull-through sites. Lots of paved roads outside the campsite loops for biking.
I really don't why people like it other than, "it's a campground on Disney property where I can get some perks of being at a Disney Resort." They seem to put minimal effort into it. The bath houses were clean-ish, one of the two toilets didn't work. I logged a work order and it wasn't fixed by the time we left. Generally the resort feels like Disney's heart isn't in it and they just want to do the bare minimum to keep it operating.
Large gravel sites with a nice amount of trees and foliage between sites. Bathhouse on our loop was excellent with plenty of hot water. Museum only open to public on weekends.
Such a beautiful and clean campground. Our "Premium Meadows" site was huge, directly across the street from the trading post and pool, and backed up to a trail. Classy neighbors and very quiet. Amazing value to be in the middle of Disney for $130/night. A short golf cart ride to the Magic Kingdom ferry, and a similarly short ride to the buses to other parks. Definitely recommend the golf cart rental- so much easier and more fun than waiting for buses. The Hoop Dee Doo was awesome- a ton of food and pretty funny. Both pools were super clean and not crowded- open late too which was fun. This campground is so nicely wooded and full of paths. We can't wait to return.
Just a beautiful state park, with that old Florida feel. The sites are big and have plenty of space between them. The the park staff we interacted with were very friendly and informative. The glass bottom boat tour is an absolute must, we had such a wonderful time and the boat captain had lots of interesting information. We have a 4 year old and a 10 year old and they both really enjoyed the boat tour also.
Campsites were large and private. Quite area, would have loved to stay longer. Restrooms were clean
Site 35 back in 50 amp FHU Good spaces between sites Morning shade Handicapped site with walkway to restrooms, showers, and laundry Paved
We are staying here for 1 month. We are having a good time. The pool is very nice. We go every day. They have airboat rides at this location. Most sites are pull through and have pavers.
Should be zero stars! I totally agree with Mr. Acquavella's negative review. This is our honest review of what we experienced; we would not waste our time if it were not so.
The review is for informational purposes only and not to try to ruin anything, purely your decision. You have been warned.
We totally agree with another reviews that warns of being nickel and dimmed to death. What appeared at first to be a competitive price turned pricey. I repeat competitive not a bargain.
The key to the restroom/showers was an extra $100.00. We were told that it costs $100.00 PER MONTH' to have the restroom/showers cleaned. Wait, what? Ok, so every camper pays $100.00 when it only costs $100.00 PER MONTH to have it cleaned.
Brochure lies Wi-Fi is NOT FREE. Our hookup wasn’t working; found out it costs $50.00 to turn it on at our RV site.
As an electrical concern we told them about the light fixture on top of the marker post was lying on the ground, they put it back on top but didn't reattach it to any wiring, later it fell off.
We were charged $60.00 for four hours to rent a boat& trolling motor; ok that seemed competitive. Then the motor broke a few hours into our trip; the owner had to come and tow us home. We were told the motors were old and were shown the new ones that just arrived, then we had to fight to get a refund for not being able to use the boat & motor.
While cutting the grass they ran over, cut and broke our black water drainpipe. They DENIED doing it but, HELLO I showed them the grass cutter tire mark and cut across the pipe. Yet another fight, finally; they offered a dollar store replacement hose they use when they do damage a pipe. Wait, what? They deny damaging pipes but have replacement pipes for when you do. I said I was going to a RV store and buy the proper one. They would not pay for it.
We had heavy rains, the water from the catch basin behind our RV starting to overflow, coming out of the lid. We didn't say anything for fear of being charged to have the basin cleaned.
No fire ring at the site, there is only a community fire pit.
Roads are full of potholes; some are fairly deep.
Turning and backing in is super tight, sites are on top of and right behind each other.
The owner had the nerve to respond with a candy-coated' BS reply. Instead of fixing their problems they tried to spin the comment saying I was lying. LYING? Ten problems I lied about; you can’t make these things up. Just ignore the reply, it is, pure gibberish and save your money and stay away. God bless everyone and please be safe.
We camped in the wooded RV area Saturday - Monday late May and we had the place nearly to ourselves! Loved our site (10) it was big and wooded/shaded. Bathrooms were nice. Liked that you can get to all of the trails right from the campground. Employees were nice and helpful. Great quiet stay!
Stayed at site 019 for 5 nights at the end of April in a 30’ travel trailer. The site backs up to an area of low grasses, bushes and palms with tall pines nearby. There is a ranger trail the runs behind the site as well but we never saw any riding past. There is a road not far away but it’s in a suburban area and I didn’t find it to be a problem. We were usually out hiking and swimming during the day and the nights just had a low hum of far off traffic. You could still hear nature all around. The trails are absolutely gorgeous. Natural palms growing among tall pines. We saw so many deer I lost count and we could hear the males in the distance. Also spotted a young alligator walking on a trail near the spring. The gopher tortoises are out in full force in the mid afternoon. Didn’t spot a bear though. We didn’t want to leave at the end of our trip. And would’ve stayed longer if our schedules allowed. Would highly recommend.
We weren't expecting a lot when we pulled in. You pass the lots with the seasonal campers & mobile homes- some were nicely kept & others not so much.
We found the office & lake area & it's great! The boats & kayaks are free for campers. You just have to sign one out at the office.
They have a large pavilion & 2 wooden docks- one with a covered seating area. Swimming is in the lake & there were some people doing that during our stay.
Fishing was fair according to my fisherman. The grounds are very nice & so is Lake Waldena!
People that are seasonal are very friendly. Aside from karaoke night at the pavilion Saturday night(I think it was a party for a seasonal who was leaving the next day) it was very quiet.
We had site 3, which is labeled as a prime site. We had a concrete pad, but the other sites did not. There were 4 sites with water & electric only. Site 1 looked like a nice tent site. 18 sites which I think are for temporary campers. The rest are permanent camper sites. Site 1-13 had a view of a marshy area with the lake beyond.
We had sandhill cranes roaming around the campground who visited once in a while. The site itself was wonderful! We enjoyed the view & sunset every night. The sites aren't too close, but side by side with no foliage between. Traffic noise from Hwy 40 wasn't noticeable.
The reason only 4 stars? The bathrooms were awful! They need an update, a paint job, something. A deep clean would be good too. I would rank the cleanliness as state park clean, which is sketchy clean. Put in a new bathhouse & this campground would be stellar!
The sites and facilities are nice. But the campground is huge and they used to have great transportation around the property and to the Disney parks in the area. Now they seem to be cutting costs and transportation is unreliable. Sadly the solution is to rent electric carts at additional expense to an already top dollar charge to stay there. Very dissatisfied.
