Best Cabin Camping near Sumatra, FL

Several Florida state parks near Sumatra offer cabin accommodations with varying amenities. T.H. Stone Memorial St. Joseph Peninsula State Park features screened cabins that provide protection from insects while maintaining access to outdoor views. Ochlockonee River State Park includes cabins set among palms and live oak trees with electric hookups and water access. St. Andrews State Park Campground maintains modern cabins with full utility connections including sewer, electric, and water. Most cabin sites include fire rings and picnic tables, with some offering private pavilions. "The cabins are very nice and clean. Tent area has about 6 sites in a circle around a covered area giving each site shade, shelf, a light, electric and water," noted one visitor.

Rustic and deluxe cabins are both available, depending on the location. Ed and Bernices Fish Camp and RV Park provides riverside cabins with individual pavilions, picnic tables, and electrical outlets suitable for fishing enthusiasts. Some parks require advance booking, especially for premium accommodations like the eight cabins at St. Joseph Peninsula State Park. A camper explained, "You need to book this place way in advance, within minutes of these cabins being available for reservation. Reserve even if you don't know you'll be able to go; cancellation is like $17 or something." Many cabins permit pets, though specific policies vary by location.

Most cabins provide basic furnishings but require visitors to bring their own linens, towels, and toiletries. Cooking facilities range from simple fire rings to full kitchens, depending on the accommodation level. Basic provisions are available at on-site camp stores at some locations, including St. Andrews State Park which maintains multiple camp stores throughout the property. Larger grocery options typically require driving to nearby towns. Visitors planning extended stays should arrive prepared with sufficient supplies, as the closest full-service stores may be 20 miles away from more remote locations like Ochlockonee River State Park.

    Triple C's Campground & RV Park-PERMANENTLY CLOSED

    Great place

Very nice and clean. Tent area has about 6 sites in a circle around a covered area giving each site shade, shelf, a light, electric and water. Sites have picnic table and fire ring. 6 private shower stalls, clean bathrooms, a clean pool, small playground and store. We have stayed here a few times in the tent area but they also have Rv sites and cabins.

    Beautiful well kept state park

Amazing state park on the water. The campground is modern with nice clean bathrooms, laundry machines, vending machines, park store with cart rentals and other items. The spaces are close together but great. Nice level gravel pads, full hookups including sewer, and most have fire pits and picnic table.

    Mountains of Florida

Great trails in the mountains of Florida. Campsites are narrow but long we had enough space to set our screen room up behind camper. Hurricane michael did extensive damage to the area. Trees and shrubs are growing back. Not much shrubbery between sites. Two super cool yurts for rent and a cabin. Campground is set above the ravine which makes for awesome sunsets. The trails can be accessed from campground. Most of the trails are pretty strenuous especially for Florida. Warning about copperhead snakes at this park so I would not take dogs on any of the trails.

    Torreya State Park Campground

    Well maintained and beautifully located.

Awesome campground with good amenities. Each site has fire ring, picnic table, water and electric. Most sites had good flora between sites, offering a little privacy. Restroom and shower facilities with a coin operated laundry.

Ranger Rob shared a secret, two campsites cannot be reserved and are always available first come first served. I got to spend two nights in one of those and it was great.

I found the hiking trails to be quite strenuous and not well-maintained in spots, but that's part of the adventure. I even took a tumble down a steep hill but made it to the primitive camp sites just to see them and get down to the river.

    Great lil one nighter

    Ok pros:

Staff are great. Friendly and helpful. Attached to an amazing fishing store. I could have stayed there all day talking about fishing. Great water, sewer and electric. Close to beach access and tons of stuff to do with in walking distance. Sites are a lil close but out our front door we had a concrete pad with picnic table and easily a good 5 more feet till neighbors. Gate access but key card. ($10 deposit which is returned when you check out)

    Cons:

Electric and water Hookups are on passenger side when connecting. Make sure your hookups can reach. Sewer is on drivers side, could have new piping done but worked for what I needed. It rained heavy!!! Tornado warning heavy. Yes it is wet and large puddles everywhere but this is Florida. Our site had a huge puddle but everything is solid underneath us. We leveled with no problems.

Overall this is a great lil stop over. The hookups and large puddles where a turn off for me but the staff and ladies in the office made me say I would definitely come back here again!!!

    BUSY AND LOUD

Very loud! The campground is directly across the street from a bar and grill that plays live music LOUDLY every night. So loud that you can hear it over the a/c running. Also many kids driving golf carts at all hours of the day and night, with music. If you go there for a party, this is it! We were in site 37. Barely long enough for a 27 ft camper. Room for only one vehicle. The electric hookup box, had a broken cover. After looking around the campground, the majority of them were broken as well. The outside lighting on our site was also broken. No picnic tables or firepits on site. It was pretty level concrete, though. No shade. There is s small store, laundry facility, pool (which was closed for repair), and shower room. One good thing about it, the beach is less than a 5 minute walk away. Highly doubt we would stay here again.

    St. Andrews State Park Campground

Right on the water and in town

Level and newish gravel sites so still LOTS of rocks no mud. Fire pits on a brick base. Newer wooden picnic tables. State park has a beach with public restrooms. There are 3 camp stores throughout the park. One at beach, one at jetty, one closer to camp. Many campsites are tight on the bay and you can see the water from most of the sites. It’s a large park. You can rent golf carts to get around. There is a large center area in the campground with a built in corn hole game and a giant checker board with a large community fire pit. There are areas along the sandy bay shoreline in the campground where you can sit on the beach. The bathhouse is ok. Certainly not terrible but it won’t wow you. It would be better if the showers had a private “dry area”. That’s the one part about the bathhouse I don’t care for. You either stand in the wet shower to dress and possibly get your clothes wet or come out naked. But if you don’t need to shower in there it’s awesome!

8 Cabins are the best in FL

You need to book this place way in advance, within minutes of these cabins being available for reservation. Reserve even if you don't know you'll be able to go; cancellation is like $17 or something.

Cell reception is spotty with At&T.

Beach is a pretty hilly 10 min. hike or so - so you will need to be organized and not be hand carrying big coolers; you'll need backpack. But not many people make the hike; you'll often have the beach to yourselves.

Lots of wildlife around - deer, armadillos, etc.

If wind is blowing from the north (shore toward beach, from behind you if you are looking at the gulf) the beach may have nasty biting flies, so drive 45 mins and go to St. George beach. Usually wind comes off the gulf though and keeps the bugs at bay.

We love Cabin #7.Cabin 8 has steps down to the bay; all others are a straight walk out.

Downstairs "beds" are not really suitable for adults; I wouldn't try to put more than 2 adults in a cabin and expect much sleep.

Bring kayaks and SUPs! You will be right on the bay, and St. Joe bay is great paddling with tons of fish and wildlife. We've seen manta rays, tons of cownose rays, huge schools of Jack Crevalle, turtles, and caught many species of fish...redfish, snook, seatrout, etc. Even saw an alligator way out at the end of the peninsula once!
