Located smack dab on the Indian River in the Southeast corner of Volusia County (this is where Hurricane Nicole hit just 1.5 months ago) along Florida’s ‘Space Coast,’ you’ll discover Indian Lopez RV Park & Marina. But be careful, if you are driving by just a smidge too fast and don’t look long enough to the right (heading north), you’ll drive by this hidden enclave. Here you’ll find that this is basically an RV parking lot complete with all of the traditional hookups you would expect (30 / 50 amp electric, water, sewage).
The best part about Lopez RV Park & Marina is the direct access to the Indian River that will give you access to the ocean (if you want to make it out that far, and if not, due south to Mosquito Lagoon), which makes for some pretty amazing fishing in these parts. Another great asset to this RV parking pad is that every slot has a waterfront view (albeit very slim, pretty closely packed space between each parked mobile living room). Also, unlike some of the other properties in the area, Lopez RV has its own private dock where you can fish from or launch your boat or kayak from (but do note that when your watercraft is not on the water, it needs to be stowed on your site). Of course, the kiddos will have a blast here just looking into the water to see all sorts of marine life (we spotted a manatee here on more than one occasion).
What I love about this pet-friendly spot is its close proximity to some amazing local haunts like Seminole Rest Historic Site, which is just a short jaunt down the road from where you’re staying. Here you can cast a line, go for a decent hike or just rest for a spell on one of the many brand new park benches you’ll find here. Of course, you’re not too far from Kennedy Space Center, so whether you want to drive there to experience the 'Space Coast' destination, or just park a folding chair on the private dock and watch the starry night as a satellite or rocket is launching into space, you’ll have lots of options.
Insider’s tips? Here’s a big one. If you get tired of frying up your meals in a pan or making sandwiches, head on down the road (you can actually walk it) to Goodrich’s Seafood & Oyster House, where they have everything imaginable on a seafood menu and dinner specials most nights. There’s even live music on the weekends, so give this place a visit and enjoy one of the many cocktail specials they serve up in this 100 year old+ joint!
Happy Camping!
