Texas Flat Group Campground

SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Sierra National Forest's Texas Flat Group Campground sits along a creek corridor between Grey's Mountain and Texas Flats, operating under US Forest Service management from mid-May through October 1. The main campground closes periodically, but dispersed sites along the creek remain accessible. No toilets or running water are available on-site; the creek runs year-round. RVs are limited to 20 feet. The area draws a consistent 4x4 crowd, so campers seeking more space should look away from the main trails, which is manageable given the terrain. A waterfall just below Greys Mountain campground features rock slides and swimming holes worth building time into your trip.

Get out of the heat and into the creek

The main campground gets closed on occasion, but there are plenty of solid camping spots along the creek between Grey’s Mountain and Texas Flats. No toilets or running water, but the creek does flow year round. Bring sun screen and bug spray for sure. There are usually a lot of 4x4 folks camping in the area, so if you don’t want to be harassed you’ll need to find space away from the main trails (which isn’t hard to do).

Make sure to check out the falls that are a little below Greys Mountain campground. Tons of fun sliding on the rocks and jumping into the pools.
