Thousand Trails Lake Minden provides cabin rentals with electricity, beds, and basic indoor seating, while Laguna Del Sol features more private cabin options. Rancho Seco Recreation Area maintains rustic cabins with electricity but minimal furnishings. Most cabins include air conditioning for summer months when temperatures climb. Rustic and deluxe cabins are available depending on the location. SacWest cabins tend toward basic accommodation with standard amenities, while some cabins at Brannan Island State Recreation Area offer more deluxe furnishings. Several campgrounds feature on-site markets with essential supplies, including SacWest, Thousand Trails Lake Minden, and Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park at Tower Park. Full kitchens are rare in basic cabin rentals, so guests planning extended stays should prepare accordingly or utilize communal cooking facilities where available.

    Rancho Seco Recreation Area

    All types of fun !

I love this place because it is about 45 minutes from the house.  There's plenty to do with lots of great sites.  The first time we went, they didn't have any annual passes because they lady was out that day. But the other day, we were able to finally get a season pass.  You can fish, hike, or swim here. The campsites are spacious and you don't feel over crowded if there is a family next to you. It's pet friendly. The store was recently redone and they offer a wide variety of items, from keep sakes to any necessity you may have forgotten ( lighter, logs, clothes shoes, etc... )  There also boat rental that are a fair price, plus you get them for an hour or so. ( You will have to check the prices and availability. ) There's a dog park for the dogs to roam free off the leash, which also has access to water/ beach area for the dogs only.

    American River Resort

Family of 4 roof top tent camping

Nice campground - close to river. .5 mile walk to town for shopping/eating. All sites have fire pit and picnic table. Bathrooms clean and private showers. A little pricey for a tent site - 45.00 and 5.00 for the dog but it’s California.

    49er Village RV Resort

    Convenient to area wineries

General: This is a HUGE RV park (a Sun Resort) with back-in, pull-through sites, and cabins. We called a day ahead to see if there was room and on a weekday in early May, there was plenty of availability. We even received a Spring Flash Sale (40% off) rate which, although more than we usually spend to camp, was reasonable. As is typical of RV parks, there is a small patch of lawn between sites but virtually no privacy. There are trees throughout the park and although it is located right on the road, only the sites that back up to the road hear road noise. There is a small pond in the center and we saw some ducks. All camping sites have full hook-ups and a picnic table but no fire ring or grill. There is a large laundry room and a café. We were assigned a site at check-in.

Site Quality: Pads are paved and level. The back-in sites in the center back up to each other with no divider between them. I saw several large RVs look almost like they were touching!

Bathhouse: Two bathhouses each with three stalls, two sinks, and two showers. Although there is a curtain separating the showers from the rest of the bathroom, the bench is outside of the shower stalls, which could be awkward. However, in the time we were there, I never saw a single person in the bathroom(assuming most people use their own bathrooms in their RVs). The shower had good water pressure and hot water.

Activities: There is a pool, playground, rec center. Shuffleboard, horseshoes, and beach volleyball. It is a half-mile around the perimeter, so I was able to enjoy a short run.

This is not our usual type of camping experience, but since we met friends at a nearby winery, this worked for us since we did not want to drive far.

    Brannan Island State Recreation Area

    Near Sacramento river

This is a big campground with everything you need for boating and fishing. They have a big boat launch for easy launching. They closed their boat berths because they were rotting. They have one cabin with electricity. It has a bunk bed And a queen. Bring air mattresses cause they are just wooden frames. Very close to the Sacramento River for a nice cruise.

    Coloma Resort

    Nice place next to river

This place is north east of Sacramento. Coloma resort is what some friends call "Glamping", but it's so much more than that. You can tent camp (it's covered sites for camping too), rent a cabin or RV camp. Great sites along the river too. One negative, is you have to book way ahead of time, but it's well worth it. You can pan for gold, relax, or bike, hike along the river, and kids can play along several playgrounds for kids of different ages. A large grass area great for games, and if you are up for it, rafting, kayaking and fishing in the cold American river. You can also learn some history about the discovery of gold and check out Sutter Mill!

    Rancho Seco Recreation Area

    A Gem

This is a wonderful spot to stay for a few days in the off season. We stayed in February. Summers would be very hot and I imagine the area would be packed with day use folks. 12 miles from I-5 out in the country. Very quiet.  21 water and electric sites with a dump station on the way out. Some pull through sites. About 50 tent only sites, some just feet from the lake. RV sites are farther from the lake on mostly level gravel pads with picnic table, fire rings, and a trash can at each site. The grounds are very attractive and very well maintained and all of the staff we encountered were friendly and accommodating. There is one marked hiking trail that follows the lake shore for the first mile then through a field with cattle.

    Skyline Wilderness Park

Skyline Wilderness Park - Wilderness just outside of wine country!

Checkin process a little hectic but wonderful camp hosts and overall nice facilities. A ton of great hiking and horseback riding trails. Literally 5 mins outside of the town of Napa. Ate at an amazing Brazilian Steakhouse and came to camp in just a short drive. Sites are free form and come as you are, basically you’re assigned to a section and you camp where there room to do so. Sites backs up to Wilderness and saw a doe within 10 mins of setting up camp just a few steps away. Level sites, water, picnic table and grill at each spot. All close to restrooms and showers, needs some updating but very clean. You’ll need to make sure you have a tent, no car-camping. All-in-all, felt like going to summer camp in the city but left with a smile on my face!! :) Would stay again for sure! Enjoy!

Guide to West Sacramento Vmf

Cabin accommodations near West Sacramento Vmf, California range from rustic to family-oriented options with varied amenities. Most locations are within a 30-60 minute drive of West Sacramento, positioned along waterways including the Sacramento River and California Delta. Summer temperatures regularly exceed 90°F, making air conditioning an essential consideration for cabin rentals during peak season.

What to do

Water activities on the Sacramento Delta: Ko-Ket Resort offers paddle board rentals for morning water excursions. "This place is awesome! Has a cute restaurant on the water too. Very clean facilities, it's right on the water- the California delta river. They have paddle boards you can rent and go out on the water in the morning," notes one visitor.

Fishing opportunities: Lake Minden provides stocked fishing ponds suitable for casual anglers. "Last trip we caught 3 bass and 12 bluegills. This trip we caught a personal record size bass. Great place for fishing all day," reports one visitor. Remember that fishing licenses are required for adults 16 and over when fishing California waterways.

Gold panning history: Coloma Resort connects visitors with California's gold rush heritage. "If you ever want to experience the thrill of gold panning, and California history go here! You will not strike it rich, but with a couple hours of effort you can get a nice little bottle of gold flakes to take home with you," shares one camper who visited the area.

What campers like

Waterfront access: Many campers appreciate direct river or lake frontage at sites like Rancho Seco Recreation Area. "This is a small but lovely place. I pitched a tent in site 43 right next to the lake. Excellent place," mentions one visitor. Sites along water bodies tend to book faster than standard sites.

Clean facilities: Despite aging infrastructure at some locations, maintenance standards remain high at many cabin properties. "The showers were spotless, stocked, and looked freshly upgraded with woodgrain tile and real stall doors. Toilets and sinks were just as clean," writes one camper about Lake Minden.

Seasonal programming: Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park offers themed activities throughout the year. "We go for Halloween and there is trick or treating through the whole place, a haunted house and a decor and costume contest. Our kids really enjoy the freedom to go play while the adults sit back and relax," explains one regular visitor. Most seasonal events are included with standard accommodation rates.

What you should know

Booking windows: Reservation timelines vary by property, with peak summer weekends requiring 3-6 month advance booking. "We spent three weeks at Lake Minden and, to be honest, judged it too quickly. It's one of the smaller Thousand Trails parks, and when we first rolled in, we weren't sure it was going to be our kind of place," shares a visitor who ultimately extended their stay.

Cabin furnishing variations: Brannan Island State Recreation Area cabin options require preparation. "They have one cabin with electricity. It has a bunk bed And a queen. Bring air mattresses cause they are just wooden frames," advises one camper. Always confirm bedding requirements before arrival.

Gate hours: Many properties maintain strict entry/exit times. "Definitely recommend getting there well before the gates close because there were issues getting a hold of the camp host. Fortunately, we received an email with a gate code since it was locked when we got there at 5:01pm," reports a visitor to Skyline Wilderness Park.

Tips for camping with families

Activity planning: Ascension Ranch offers unique farm animal interactions for children. "Super relaxing and has a lake that is at the end of the trail. Super convenient. It was cool to experience the animals that were in the pastures as well," mentions one family visitor. Most ranch activities operate during daylight hours.

Water safety considerations: When selecting cabins near water features, confirm supervision requirements. "The camp site is clean. You can order food and they will deliver. Wonderful ada bathroom/showers with a fold down bench. Friendly staff," notes a visitor to SacWest, mentioning river conditions that vary seasonally.

Weekend noise levels: Weekends tend to be busier and louder at most properties. "Crowded on holiday weekends and a lot of people playing loud music. If you are okay with that they have a lot of sites right next to the water. The sites away from the water are quieter," advises a Lake Minden visitor, suggesting midweek stays for quieter experiences.

Tips from RVers

Site selection strategy: SacWest RV Park & Campground offers varied site locations. "We parked in the back along the river which was ideal with grassy spots along the river and campfire spots to use," shares one RVer, indicating that riverside spots provide more space than interior locations.

Hookup verification: Always test electrical connections upon arrival. "Only had 30amp service & the outlet moved around a bit. Had to prop up my plug with some blocks to keep it from moving or would lose power," mentions one visitor to Lake Minden, highlighting the importance of checking connections before setup.

Delivery options: Several properties allow food delivery directly to sites. "Lots of pull through spots. Hood showers. Loved the pool. Had pizza delivered right to the spot," notes one SacWest visitor, with most local restaurants requiring entrance gate codes for delivery drivers.
