    Calico Ghost Town

    halloween event

Great camping site during halloween event. Very kid friendly. There were free balloon twisters, pumpkin craving, arts and crafts, toss games. We enjoyed the train ride. it was about $5 per a ride. Campsites were dirt roads. we had electric hookup. Dump station was easy to access and water/trash located next to it. No fees for water and dump. Weather was perfect in mid 70's. Would definitely take the kids back again before they get older.

    Nice but small sites

I think I was lucky. There was myself and two others in the entire campground. Granted it was June and hot. The sites are ok. The electric and water worked. The bathrooms were clean and maintained. The shower costs $1.00 for 6 minutes. The water was pleasantly warm. The Ghost town is a fun place to walk through.

    Great Waypoint for Passing Through

It's an excellent location for access to Barstow and Calico. We appreciated the pool, hammocks next to the pool, and the treats at the store. Sites are primarily pull-throughs, and many are occupied by people passing through them for one night. There are easy hookups, 50 amp service, and easy on/off from the highway. We visited both Barstow and Calico and had a good time at both.

    Mojave River Forks Regional Park

    Basic, Clean Campground

We had a great overnight stay at this park. Two other campers were there, and we had no interactions other than waving. We arrived after hours, and the gate code was included in the reservation information. We will be adding this park back for future stays.

    Good location awful camp site

We loved visiting calico ghost town! It was fabulous, but the two nights at the campground were rough. We stayed in the “O” section which I didn’t want based on the map but after we arrived, I’m glad we were in That section. The other side of the campground looked awful. Our sites were small but the main campsite area had lots that were Even smaller! I mean we had 10’ from the edge of our camper to the next camper. How do I know? Our 10’ awning was only an inch or two from my parents camper next door. The picnic tables were nice in our area but warped and awful in the main campsite area. The bathrooms were dirty. They didn’t stink but they don’t appear to clean anything. I brought Clorox wipes with me every time to wipe the toilets. There was no toilet paper in the bathrooms ever and the light are off at night but on during the day. Super helpful. I passed on the showers - didn’t even look at them based off the toilet area. The first night there was so many parties and loud drunks. It went on past midnight. The people next to us were loud and had apparently rented a trailer and had it swapped out for a new one at midnight and no one seemed to care about even attempting to be semi quiet for the neighbors. The second night was a Sunday. Everyone moved out and it was much quieter but early Monday in the am the trash picks up. I probably wouldn’t stay there again.

    Crystal Lake Rec Area Campground

    Convenient

We stayed at Crystal Lake campground on Friday the 13th! Luckily we arrived before 3pm as the campground was pretty full by 6pm. I give it 4 stars for being about 90min from Corona. However it is close to LA and there is still a lot of graffiti at the pit toilets and the group next to us was pretty rowdy all night. Sites are all pretty well shaded. Crystal Cafe sold firewood by the wheel barrel and only $20! I’m glad camp fires were allowed as the temperature dropped pretty quick once the sun went down.

Great spot in the high desert away from the city & next to HOT SPRINGS!

    • Easy going campground with all the necessary amenities for camping and a great spot for our large group of 18 adults & 10 kids to gather and camp out together. You will have to drive 6 miles of mountainous dirt roads to reach the property, but it takes you away from all signs of the city and surrounds you in nature when you get there, making a very nice camping experience.  The spring pools at our site were so relaxing to have all to ourselves and well worth it to reserve for our party! The deep creek hot springs were absolutely fabulous, as they were situated next to a cold creek where we could do therapeutic hot cold plunges. The hike to the hot springs was fairly tough, but we found it easily with the trail starting right on the property! Definitely recommend camping here, just make sure you download directions prior so you don't end up at the wrong place and run into a crazy guy at a shack next door!

    Crystal Lake Rec Area Campground

    Beautiful, but noisy

I didn’t stay overnight at this campground, but rather used it as the parking place for my day hike to Throop peak. I arrived at 9am on Labor Day, and I was pleasantly surprised that there were still plenty of parking spots available in the day use area. I use the vault toilet, and wasn’t the cleanest. At the end of my hike, as I was passing through multiple campsites, almost all of them had a boombox playing loud music. To each their own I guess, but I personally prefer the sounds of nature while camping.

Lord of the Flies meets Tweeker Heaven

I wish I could be positive. OK. One positive note, the sun was bright. No obvious maintenance in years. Trees are dead and standing for the most part. The laundry smells of cat pee. The flies have taken over. The tweekers have violent tendencies. The large riverbed homeless encampment is next door. They will not return my deposit or any of my months rent after three days of stay.

    OHV camping is terrific

Well no fault of this location, we planned this trip months ago, but unfortunately the ambient temps soared. Two huge AC units could only manage about a 20 degree reduction in 110 degree heatwave. Recommend this as a winter, early spring or late fall. OHV pull through site accommodated my 45 foot 5th wheel no problem. Upper campsite has full hook ups for small rigs but there is no cell service at upper camp. Aside from weather advisory, this is a spot I can see us coming back to during appropriate season ☀️🔥🔥🔥

    Beautiful desert site

I had to change my reservation three times, and the staff was incredibly helpful. They went above and beyond to give us the easiest possible stay. The campground itself was reasonably clean with a gorgeous view of the desert and mountains. Sites laid out well and most are pull through and accommodate big rigs. Pool, laundry, general store, showers and lavatories. They did not however have the shuttle to the silver mine as advertised (ended with Covid) and the Enterprise rental in Barstow does not “pick you up“ and were rude besides.

    Pleasant

Camping fees include access to the Ghost Town which closes at 5pm daily. It's a short walk up the trail from the campground. No need to drive around and park. On Easter they have an egg hunt divided by children's age groups, music, photos with EB, and other activities. Your camping fee also covers access to these type of special events. The largest full hookup site is likely #B18 and #B11. They seemed to have the widest parking area. I was able to work from this location using Homefi with no service issues on zoom calls.

    Little Noisy, But Nice

This was our second trip with the Popup. Be warned, the streets are one way, and the slots are angled the wrong way to back a trailer into. We had to make sure nobody was coming, drive up the wrong way, and back in.

My son had been asking to camp at a place with pine trees and mountains. This satisfied him.

The store is nice, but calling it a “cafe” is a bit of a stretch. Think Costco chicken nuggets heated in a toaster oven.

The hike to the lake mainly follows a paved service road, but it does beer away at times into some really nice scenery.

It was a little noisy. It seems people have forgotten how to act at a campground. This isn’t unique just here, but it was a tad worse.

    Very close neighbors

Our campground loop was a loop with inner and outer paved driveways that allowed pull through set up. Site was gravel/dirt and not level but manageable. Bathrooms were in the center of the loop and had flush toilets and pay showers ($1 for 7 minutes).

    Staff friendly and knowledgable

It is a bit rough around the edges. Easy to miss the turn because it is on road 15 next to highway 15- yikes. Tough on the road weary. It has a dog run. Near the highway which can be convenient or noisy. Site is nice, bathrooms could use some love.

    Large Camp and crowded

This popular camp has 265 dedicated campsites plus overflow parking. Trails and sights are right outside camp. Quiet. We parked in overflow because all sites were taken and it was still quiet! Will go back.

    Quick Nights Stop

Clean facilities and fit the need for the night. The interstate is loud, so it did impact a good nights sleep. Over all, a cute little KOA
