Dolphin Isle Marina & RV Park

    Quiet, seals, deer and wildlife

We love this place. We've been here for 2 months now off and on. The site we are on is located between a marina and the Noyo River. It allows for easy access for paddle boarding, kayaking, swimming and seals, sea lions and other wildlife. Last night a 6 point deer walked past our site. The rates are pretty reasonable and the people that run the campgrounds are great to work with. There is a kayak/sup rental as well next door. If you're lucky the maintenance guy will sing or whistle while doing his work, and makes for a good show! It does close down except for long-term use in the winter time (November-??) due to coastal seasonal flooding. Internet can be occasionally spotty but we use AT&T and Verizon which work well. Cable is provided. Full hook ups. Due to Covid enquire about the bathroom situation when calling to book. Walking distance from the harbor and a quick bike ride to the bluffs overlooking the ocean.

Caspar Beach RV Park & Campground

    Steps from the beach

Its a super cramped campground for big rigs. Much nicer and more privacy if tenting. The best spot is “ocean view” but its time to change the name. That site is for tenting but can accommodate a small rv or van. The vegetation is so tall there is no actual ocean view. Restrooms are clean. Showers coin operated. Awesome location. Friendly folks. Good camp store.

    Middle Creek Campground

    Great place for dry camping

Beautiful location, campground was easily accessible going up Elk Mountain Road. Camped in Site 11, pull through, no hook ups, nice picnic table, grill and fire pit. Vault toilets, no showers. There is potable water close to the campsites. Very quiet during the week, it did get noisier on the weekends, but everyone settled down for the evening.

    All the ammenities!

We spent 4 nights here with our travel trailer. We had a site with full hook ups, including sewage (no need for dumping station!!). This is a great campground that is right on the beach! It has showers, flushing toilets, a little store, fire wood for sale, dish washing station, and even WiFi! The campground was very clean and really perfect for families! Couldn’t recommend more!

    Mendocino Redwoods RV Resort

Great for families with little ones

We stopped here overnight on our way up the coast. Well maintained, nice facility and friendly staff. Definitely wouldn’t come back for long term camping as we have older teenagers. The facility is definitely geared toward families with smaller kids. It was great for what we needed.

    Albion River Campground

    Nice Weekend Getaway

The drive to Albion, Ca was beautiful. We arrived at the Campground and the nice fact was being able to reserve and choose our campsite. This Campground is also a Marina for boatlaunching, fishing and crabbing. Each RV site has a table, fire ring and 30 Amp electrical and water. There are also full hookup with cable, sewer in addition to the electrical and water. The view is incredible the campsite is along the Albion River then it spill into Albion Cove and that opens to the Pacific Ocean. Ocean fishing in kayaks or boat and crabbing along the pier is often why people come here.

    Gualala Point Regional Park

    Small but beautiful county campground

General: 19 general and six walk-in campsites among giant redwood and Bay Laurel trees on the Gualala River. Sites 17 & 18 are a double site.

Site Quality: Level sites with bear box, picnic table, and fire ring. Site One’s camper pad fit our 18-foot camper van, but it would not accommodate anything much larger. Several other camper pads looked short as well. No hookups.

Bath/Shower house: Three individual units with toilet, sink, soap, and paper towels. One shower that takes quarters – three minutes for $2.00.

Activities: There is a trail that leads through the walk-in sites, under Highway One, and to the beach, approximately 1.5 miles. You can also drive to the day-use area for a shorter walk. We were there on a weekday but there were many activities scheduled for the upcoming weekend including kayaking on Bodega Bay, outside yoga, and healthy hustle circuit training – I was sad to miss all of these options.

This campground is beautiful and peaceful. But note that although we did not encounter any, several other campers experienced over-eager raccoons while eating dinner. There was also a sign warning of mountain lions but we did not encounter any. Shout-out to the ranger who shared a lot of good information about the area.

Hidden Pines RV Park & Campground

    Quiet, no frills but safe

The owner is very accommodating but doesn’t give refunds. That didn’t affect me but I’ve heard lots of people complain. The sites are close together but full hookups (except sewer) and a picnic table and fire ring at each one. Dump station is free to campers and was easy to use. Check after noon for the most updated info. Mike the owners was very helpful and so was his staff. I’ve heard there’s a pool but I didn’t use it. A bit pricey but so is everyone else in the area. I felt safe there, and would stay again.

    Hendy Woods State Park Campground

    Family Freindly Redwood Camping

Spacious sites with fire pit, wooden food box and picnic table. Potable water available at spigots along the roads every 3-4 campgrounds. The campground has restrooms with sinks (bring your own soap), flush toilets, coin operated showers. Campground ha easy access to hiking, swimming in the river, and wine tasting just up the road. There a local produce stands just up the road where you can expect to buy tasty Gravenstien apples if you visit in August! Mosquitoes are present so bring bug spray! If you forget anything, there is a Mom and Pop store up the road that sells almost everything you need including batteries, tableclothes, butane, ice and firewood for about $6 a bundle. The campground host sells firewood for $8 a bundle. Campsites are for 8 people maximum. Even with 8 people, we didn't feel cramped. Sites come with 2 parking passes. If you have more than two cars in your party, you can pay for additional parking passes. Dog friendly! I was the only person in my group to have cell service here and I have Verizon.

Guide to Albion

The Mendocino coastal area near Albion sits at approximately 174 feet above sea level, with summer temperatures averaging 55-65°F and winter temperatures ranging from 40-55°F. The moderate climate creates year-round camping opportunities with ocean influence providing cool nights even during summer months. Coastal fog frequently rolls in during mornings and evenings, particularly from May through August.

What to do

Beach access near campgrounds: At Westport Beach RV Park and Campground, campers enjoy direct beach access. "It's an open campground split into two sides with, I'd estimate about 20-30 spots total... you have a front row view to the ocean. It's as if you're on the edge of the cliff," notes camper Chani K. The beach is a short walk from campsites, providing easy sunset viewing.

Explore tidepools: Fort Bragg area campgrounds provide access to marine ecosystems. Near Pomo RV Park & Campground, "Access to the ocean is quick, and there are multiple bike & hiking trails nearby," according to Hannah S., who also notes the "nearby tidepooling scene" as a highlight. Tidepools are best explored during low tide.

Kayaking and paddleboarding: The marina and river access at Dolphin Isle Marina & RV Park create water recreation opportunities. "The site we are on is located between a marina and the Noyo River. It allows for easy access for paddle boarding, kayaking, swimming and seals, sea lions and other wildlife," reports one camper. Kayak and SUP rentals are available next door.

What campers like

Privacy between sites: Many RV parks near Albion prioritize site separation. At Pomo RV Park & Campground, "Each site has shrubbery around it. It feels like you are in a world by itself," writes Loren P. Another camper notes, "Sites have tons of trees/greenery in between so it feels very secluded."

Ocean views from RV parks: The elevated position of many coastal campgrounds provides scenic vistas. Harbor RV Park in Fort Bragg features "sites with a great view of the ocean," according to harry S. Another camper notes it's "Located next to Pomo Bluffs Park and over looking the ocean and the Noyo River/Bay."

Wildlife viewing: Campsites near the coast offer nature observation opportunities. At Dolphin Isle Marina & RV Park, one camper reports, "Last night a 6 point deer walked past our site. The site we are on is located between a marina and the Noyo River. It allows for easy access for paddle boarding, kayaking, swimming and seals, sea lions and other wildlife."

What you should know

Access road challenges for remote sites: Some coastal camping areas require preparation for rough terrain. At Usal Beach Campground, "The road was a bit rougher than expected (took us roughly 45 min from the paved road to camp). People made it down in mini vans but I personally wouldn't try it," warns Connor M. Another camper describes, "The road itself is rough and could be very unsettling for anyone trying to do this trip in a vehicle without good off-road clearance."

Shower situations: Many campgrounds charge for shower use. At Caspar Beach RV Park & Campground, "Showers coin operated," notes marcus K. Another camper details, "For $5 you should get a good shower but you won't here. When my quarters ran out and I put more in, all I got was cold water."

Weather considerations: The Mendocino coast experiences significant temperature variations and fog. Westport Beach RV Park requires campers to "Get chilly @ night so be prepared!" according to Rebecca A. At Harbor RV Park, the oceanfront position means exposure to coastal weather patterns.

Tips for camping with families

Kid-friendly amenities: For families with younger children, Mendocino Redwoods RV Resort provides numerous attractions. "We stayed in one of the premium hot tub sites, where you get your very own hot tub. Highly recommend, my kids absolutely loved it and so did I! We were just a few steps from the pool, which was clean, but pretty cold," reports Erika L., who also mentioned "The splash pad was a family favorite."

Beach camping accessibility: When camping with children, consider proximity to beach access. At Westport Beach RV Park and Campground, "The beach is a short walk from there, too, and we were able to have privacy up until later hours when some other campers joined us," notes one reviewer.

Indoor entertainment options: Weather can change quickly on the coast, so consider campgrounds with indoor options. Pomo RV Park & Campground has "a good supply of books/games that you can borrow from the main office," according to Hannah S.

Tips from RVers

Site selection for space: Many RV parks near Albion, California offer varying site sizes. At Pomo RV Park & Campground, "Make sure you look through the pictures of each site on the reservation page. They all are slightly different in size, privacy, and whatnot," advises Michael C., who adds, "There are several sites that 'share' a common open space if you're in a group, and a large group area which looked to have 5 or 6 sites all comingled."

Utility connections: Different RV parks offer varying hookup options. At Harbor RV Park, "What you get is a space to park, water, electric and sewage," says harry S. Another camper notes that at Pomo RV Park & Campground, "It appears the sewer system doesn't cover all the sites, so the further back in the campground you go, there won't be any."

Wi-Fi and connectivity: Internet access varies between RV parks. At Pomo RV Park & Campground, "Internet access is available throughout, and when I ran speedtest I was getting 170Mbps down, which is incredible," reports Michael C. However, another camper warns, "Definitely expect to be off the grid as Service and WiFi are pretty intermittent."
