Best Cabin Camping near Albion, CA

Cabins at Hendy Woods State Park Campground offer accommodations within the Virginia redwood forest, located north of Sonoma and south of Mendocino. Most cabin units come equipped with heaters, basic furniture, and electricity. Manchester Beach/Mendocino Coast KOA provides cedar cabins with heaters, beds, and proximity to coastal trails. Cabins at Mendocino Redwoods RV Resort include premium options with private hot tubs steps away from recreational facilities. Caspar Beach RV Park & Campground features cabin rentals with access to shower facilities and beach proximity. "The basic cabin was just that, but spacious and the heaters worked very well. Nice, well-kept campground with plenty of activities and access to a coastal trail."

Rustic and deluxe cabins are available throughout the region, with options ranging from simple structures to fully furnished accommodations. KOA-style cabins in Manchester Beach provide basic sleeping quarters with convenient amenities. Westport Beach RV Park and Campground offers cabins with ocean views and beach access. Most locations require advance reservations, especially during summer months. A visitor to Mendocino Redwoods RV Resort noted, "We rented a small cabin for the night. It was clean and welcoming." Pet policies vary by location, with many cabins permitting leashed dogs for an additional fee.

Most cabins include beds but require guests to bring their own linens, towels, and toiletries. Cooking facilities vary significantly between properties - some provide only outdoor fire rings while others offer basic kitchen amenities. Jughandle Creek Farm supplies picnic tables and communal cooking areas with water sources. Several campgrounds maintain on-site stores selling firewood, ice, and basic provisions. When staying at Manchester Beach KOA, visitors should note that beds consist of "just a pad on top of a slat wood frame," so bringing a foam topper is recommended for comfort. Dolphin Isle Marina & RV Park provides cable service with their cabin rentals, though internet access can be spotty in coastal locations.

Westport Beach RV Park and Campground

    Great beach access.

We were lucky to get a site right next to the beach for our class B RV. This is a beautiful site along Highway 1.

PS if this site is full, there is a dry camp about a mile north on Highway one. It is right next to the remains of old Highway One and it’s called Oyster Point. It is a rustic grass lot with space between sites, but not much privacy.. There are picnic tables and fire rings. A couple of pit toilets are located around the site. There are about 45 campsites here. Sites here are on a first come basis and self registering. The photos included here are for oyster point.

    Always a good time

My wife’s family has been going here for over 30 years. It’s a family RV & cabin campground with a lot of great amenities. The new owners (5 years now) are very friendly and helpful making the whole experience a stellar visit.

    Hendy Woods State Park Campground

    Family Freindly Redwood Camping

Spacious sites with fire pit, wooden food box and picnic table. Potable water available at spigots along the roads every 3-4 campgrounds. The campground has restrooms with sinks (bring your own soap), flush toilets, coin operated showers. Campground ha easy access to hiking, swimming in the river, and wine tasting just up the road. There a local produce stands just up the road where you can expect to buy tasty Gravenstien apples if you visit in August! Mosquitoes are present so bring bug spray! If you forget anything, there is a Mom and Pop store up the road that sells almost everything you need including batteries, tableclothes, butane, ice and firewood for about $6 a bundle. The campground host sells firewood for $8 a bundle. Campsites are for 8 people maximum. Even with 8 people, we didn't feel cramped. Sites come with 2 parking passes. If you have more than two cars in your party, you can pay for additional parking passes. Dog friendly! I was the only person in my group to have cell service here and I have Verizon.

Manchester Beach / Mendocino Coast KOA

Delightful, quiet campground in the pines not far from Mendocino

Normally I wouldn't think of myself as a KOA sort of camper. This campground is enough to change my mind! There are some weekends you need to get away, but there's no time to pack the long list of stuff needed for camping. So we tried out one of these little cedar cabins. It was fantastic!!

We loved the quiet, laidback campground, with lovely old pines giving a sense of being in the forest -- even while being walking distance from the water. You're literally close enough to hear the surf, and see the Point Arena lighthouse.

It's dog friendly, with pool, hot tub, hot showers, full bathrooms, and also extensive Camp Kitchen facilities with sho-nuff gas grills.

    We absolutely plan to return!

    Jughandle Creek Farm

Perfectly secluded and right next to the beach.

Jughandle is a beautiful area between Mendocino and Fort Bragg. It contains excellent hiking, a beautiful beach, and even a Pygmy Redwood Forest. I booked it through Hipcamp and you could tell that was the majority of their campers.

We were able to score a site that was very secluded at the end of the road before the private property line. It was the perfect spot to set up two(or more) tents. There was a great fire ring and picnic table at the site.

A short less than a minute walk to the porta potty bathroom that is at the edge of a big field. In the field are two more sites on either side of the road and a large communal cooking area with a water source.

There is also a large fire ring with stump seats in case you want to have a gathering. The sites were pretty quiet even when they were all full and you were able to get to your site without distracting others too much.

There is a hiking path that takes you down to Jughandle Beach where you will find all kinds of tourists, animals, and great sand to play in or up to the pygmy redwood forest.

    Pine Mountain Lookout

    A Unique Experience

A simple, rustic cabin.  As noted by others, it suffers from a little damage/neglect—many of the windows are boarded up—but it's an old fire lookout so we didn't expect a rental cabin atmosphere.  Views are exceptional, as is the peace and quiet.  Get up early and you'll catch the dawn chorus of an amazing number of birds: warblers, woodpeckers, quail, juncos, grosbeaks, cowbirds, even robins.  The cabin is roughly outfitted with cots, bunkbeds, a table and chairs.  There's a clean outhouse down by where you park and a firepit, which we didn't use because it was windy when we were there.  Keep your food up on the table at night--the mice are nocturnal visitors and will help themselves if you leave food on the counter.  Only caveat is the access to the cabin.  They're not kidding when they warn you to bring a chainsaw.  Two of the three roads in and out were blocked by downed trees (so big our small chainsaw wasn't helpful), and in places the road that was open had pretty deep potholes and gullies formed by last winter's heavy rains.  I was really glad we had 4WD.

Guide to Albion

Cabins near Albion, California offer rustic accommodations within a coastal microclimate that averages 54°F year-round with frequent summer fog. Located along Highway 1, most cabin rentals sit between 100-500 feet elevation with proximity to both redwood forests and coastal beaches. Winter brings 40 inches of annual rainfall, making off-season cabin rentals significantly less crowded but requiring waterproof gear.

What to do

**Beach exploration: Access private coastline at Westport Beach RV Park and Campground, where cabin guests enjoy exclusive beach areas. "The beach is right there. You can see and or hear the waves crashing. Beautiful...will go again for sure," notes Randy J., highlighting the proximity to ocean views from nearly all sites.

**Redwood hiking: Explore old-growth forests at Hendy Woods State Park Campground with cabins nestled among ancient trees. "The two redwood groves are easily accessible from the campsite, and the campsite itself is pretty nice," explains Sophia B., who recommends visiting in late winter for mushroom photography opportunities.

**Water activities: Paddle on calm waters at Mendocino Magic where cabin accommodations provide lake access. "Hiking, canoeing, swimming! Friendly staff with magnificent host!" reports Frederick S., noting the availability of canoes and kayaks for cabin guests at the reservoir.

What campers like

**Convenient kitchen facilities: The Manchester Beach / Mendocino Coast KOA provides exceptional communal cooking spaces for cabin guests. "This KOA has large tent sites and a HUGE kitchen with 3 electric stoves and several sinks and microwaves for camper use," explains Kristen M., detailing amenities not typically found at standard cabins.

**Community entertainment: Evening programming enhances stays at cabin facilities. "They have movies each night and have lots of trees for shade," notes a KOA visitor, while another mentions, "We enjoyed having a full kitchen available and the community entertainment like s'mores around the campfire."

**Wildlife viewing: Cabin stays offer wildlife observation opportunities without leaving your accommodation. At Dolphin Isle Marina & RV Park, cabin rentals provide riverside viewing spots. "The site we are on is located between a marina and the Noyo River. It allows for easy access for paddle boarding, kayaking, swimming and seals, sea lions and other wildlife. Last night a 6 point deer walked past our site," reports a long-term guest.

What you should know

**Seasonal limitations: Winter conditions affect some cabin rental operations. "It does close down except for long-term use in the winter time (November-??) due to coastal seasonal flooding," warns a Dolphin Isle Marina visitor about their cabin availability.

**Bathroom facilities: Quality varies significantly between properties offering cabin rentals. At Caspar Beach RV Park & Campground, "Restrooms are clean. Showers coin operated," reports Marcus K., while Cyndie D. notes less positive experiences: "shower floor was beyond gross they machines were either jammed or you'd get 1/2 the time you paid for."

**Pricing considerations: Cabin rentals in the Albion area typically cost $70-120 per night depending on amenities and location. At Jughandle Farm, a reviewer notes: "We were able to score a site that was very secluded at the end of the road before the private property line. It was the perfect spot to set up two(or more) tents. There was a great fire ring and picnic table at the site."

Tips for camping with families

**Pool access: When selecting cabin accommodations near Albion with children, prioritize properties with heated swimming pools. At Mendocino Redwoods RV Resort, "The pool was clean, but pretty cold. It didn't seem like it was heated. If it is, it's not heated well," reports Erika L., providing practical insight for families planning water activities.

**Junior ranger programs: State park cabins offer educational opportunities for children. At Hendy Woods, "The junior ranger program and nightly events for families helped keep the kids engaged in the camping experience. Park rangers hosted guided hikes, nighttime stargazing (with telescopes), and nightly campfires," explains a visitor with small children.

**Beach proximity trade-offs: Cabin rentals closer to beaches often have less privacy. "Its a super cramped campground for big rigs. Much nicer and more privacy if tenting," notes a Caspar Beach reviewer, suggesting families consider tent-compatible cabins for better spacing between sites.

Tips from RVers

**Site selection strategy: RV campers renting cabins should evaluate location carefully. "We were lucky to get a site right next to the beach for our class B RV. This is a beautiful site along Highway 1," shares Stephen R. about Westport Beach RV Park, noting the premium value of oceanfront cabin locations.

**Cable and internet access: Connectivity varies widely at cabin rentals throughout the region. "Cable is provided. Full hook ups. Due to Covid enquire about the bathroom situation when calling to book. Walking distance from the harbor and a quick bike ride to the bluffs overlooking the ocean," advises a Dolphin Isle Marina guest, highlighting the amenities available for longer stays.

**Weather protection: Winter cabin rentals require preparation for coastal conditions. "This is a tight and wet park. It is inside a gully that gets very little sun. I stayed the end of December through New Years...But damp," cautions JMark H. about seasonal moisture levels at Caspar Beach cabins.
