Within Toiyabe National Forest, Mount Rose Campground sits at elevation on the Mount Rose Highway, providing 14 sites accessible by drive-in or walk-in options. The US Forest Service manages this forested location that operates from mid-June through September, with reservations available for the $32-$55 nightly rate.
Sites feature large cement pads containing picnic tables, fire pits, and barbecue grills, with level tent areas bordered by natural terrain. Water hookups and sewer connections accommodate RVs up to 55 feet, while drinking water and pit toilets serve all campers. Ray B. notes that "the toilets (pit) and toilet rooms are exceptionally clean." Food lockers provide bear-safe storage throughout the campground.
Walk-in sites offer views toward Mount Rose summit and the Reno valley below. Multiple trailheads begin near the campground, including access to Mount Rose summit and Relay Peak hikes. The exposed summit location means wind can pick up, with the surrounding stand of trees providing the primary windbreak. Sites toward the front of the campground tend to be more spacious and well-separated.
The rough access road may challenge some vehicles, and the campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis during peak season. For additional camping options in the region, see campgrounds around Incline Village-Crystal Bay.
