Nice Hike in Campground

Hiked in 2 miles from trailhead to the campground. Trail crosses with PCT. Nice views of mountain range. Probably much busier when gate is open and cars drive in.

Great hiking options

Due to a time crunch with work OT on the weekend, we ventured out to a campsite strictly for hiking. We were not disappointed. The trails aren’t well marked but are well used which led me to believe, if you could find them then that meant you knew how to use them, man we were not disappointed! 100 yards into the trail you couldn’t tell if you were a million miles away from civilization or 100 feet away from a main road, the ability to step straight into beautiful area and just see and hear wildlife everywhere was exactly why we can’t up here. Next time we are in LANF for camping (which is not terribly often) I will definitely put this site on our To-Stay list!

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need reservations for Blue Ridge Campground?

Blue Ridge Campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservation system in place. During peak seasons when the gate is open, the campground can fill up quickly, especially on weekends. When the gate is closed, the campground is accessible via a 2-mile hike from the trailhead, which naturally limits occupancy. For the best chance at securing a spot during the open season, arrive mid-week or early on weekends. Contact the Angeles National Forest office for current conditions and gate status before planning your trip.

How do Blue Ridge Campground and Guffy Campground compare?

Blue Ridge Campground offers more accessible hiking opportunities with trail connections to the PCT, while Guffy Campground typically has different access considerations. Blue Ridge features mountain range views and becomes significantly less crowded when the access gate is closed, requiring a 2-mile hike in. Both campgrounds are in the Wrightwood area but offer different wilderness experiences. Blue Ridge is known for its trail access and natural setting, making it ideal for hikers seeking a balance of accessibility and solitude.

What amenities are available at Blue Ridge Campground near Wrightwood?

Blue Ridge Campground offers basic amenities in a rustic mountain setting. The campground features primitive sites without electric hookups or running water. Pit toilets are available for campers. The main appeal is the natural setting with beautiful mountain views rather than modern conveniences. There are no showers or potable water sources, so campers need to pack in all necessary water. The campground's remote location means limited cell service, allowing for a true disconnected wilderness experience near Wrightwood.

What are the best hiking trails near Blue Ridge Campground?

The area around Blue Ridge Campground offers excellent hiking opportunities. The campground connects directly to the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT), providing access to extensive hiking options. While trail markers can be sparse, the paths are well-traveled and relatively easy to follow. From the campground, hikers can enjoy scenic mountain range views along various routes. For those staying when the gate is closed, the 2-mile trail from the trailhead to the campground serves as a nice warm-up hike. The Blue Ridge trail system offers varying difficulty levels suitable for different hiking abilities.
