Best Cabin Camping near Gamaliel, AR

Several cabin options dot the landscape near Gamaliel, Arkansas, particularly along the White River and Norfork Lake. Bull Shoals-White River State Park offers three cabin-style accommodations (actually park model RVs) situated directly on the river with full amenities and fishing access. Blue Heron Campground provides concrete-pad cabins with patios and river views, while Misty Mornings Arkansas Cabins features private cabin rentals with electric hookups. "Our site was just what we needed with a fire pit and a couple of picnic tables," noted one visitor about their cabin experience in the area. Most cabins include essential furnishings such as beds, tables, and basic kitchen facilities, though amenities vary significantly between properties.

Rustic and deluxe cabins are both available, depending on the location. Bidwell Point Park offers cabin rentals from May through October with lakefront views, while White Buffalo Resort provides year-round cabin availability with river access. Henderson Park includes cabin options with electrical hookups, though bathroom facilities vary by location. A recent guest at Misty Mornings commented that it was the "most peaceful place to stay" with guests "surrounded by mountains, wildlife, birds, eagles, deer, geese" and convenient access to both White River and Norfork Lake. Most properties allow pets in cabins, though specific restrictions apply, and advance reservations are essential, particularly during summer months and fishing seasons.

Most cabins include beds but require visitors to bring their own linens, towels, and toiletries. Kitchen facilities range from basic microwave setups to full kitchens in premium cabins. On-site camp stores at locations like Bull Shoals-White River State Park stock fishing supplies and essential groceries, though selection is limited. Hand Cove Resort and Buffalo Point cabins include water and electric hookups but have more limited kitchen facilities. For extended stays, the nearest full grocery options require a significant drive, with Mountain Home being the closest larger town. Firewood is typically available for purchase at most cabin locations, with fire pits provided at many sites for outdoor cooking.

Denton Ferry RV Park & Cabin Rental

    Hot in summer

This is probably an excellent site in spring or fall. However summertime is hot at the site because of the lack of shade trees. Site 15 is by the water and has a large area for dogs or family. There is a staircase down to the water next to site 8. The fishing is good. It’s a pet friendly site however if your dogs bark neighbors will complain. The manager is friendly. They do not have trash pick up service; you just take your trash to a dumpster at the end of the camp, which is not a big deal. No grill available but has picnic tables and fire ring. WI-FI aid very good.

    Sylamore Creek Camp

    Great site!

We love this campground. We love having direct access to creek. It is kayak, family, pet friendly. The only thing it is lacking is internet connection, which for us is a plus for disconnecting. All sites are reasonably level. Site F is the premium and most secluded full hook up site. They have all levels of sites: primitive, water and electric, or full. Their small store has firewood and many other convenient items for sale. We take our own kayaks, but they do have rentals. They have public showers and restrooms, but the restrooms are currently closed due to renovations. It’s really one of our favorite local sites to camp.

Buffalo Point — Buffalo National River

    A must!

Buffalo national river is the first national river established in the US and let me tell you it's gorgeous!! There are many places to camp but we stayed at Buffalo Point. There are a few different loops to stay on, we stayed in A. Each site has parking, for car or RV all differing in length, and you walk behind the parking to an area with benches, picinic table, lantern hanger, and fire pit. The river is behind the sites and you can swim in it. I recommend swim shoes because its all rocks to get to it and entering in and out of the water. Behind A loop on the opposite side from the ramp before the curve in the river is a rope swing. Its across the river so you must be a strong swimmer to beat the current. The bathrooms are well kept and there is trash bins available. Pets are allowed too. The loop that we stayed in was first come first serve and there was a self pay station near the bathroom. If you are up early enough, you may see bald eagles flying around the river like we did!

    Riverside Campground and Canoe

    Great spot on Spring River

Large campground on Spring River with lots to offer. Cabins, Camper Cabins, RV sites with water & elec and tons of primitive sites. You can also take float trips down the river with this place. Camp store onsite, but only open during busy season. No pets allowed at this campground. This place is packed during warmer months. Make a reservation!

    Bull Shoals-White River State Park

    Fisherman’s Paradise on White River

I had heard that Bull Shoals- White River State Park was beautiful, but I didn’t fully understand until I saw it. All of the campsites face white river and there’s plenty of space between sites to allow for some level of privacy. All the campsites are flat with nice concrete pads. Each campsite has a fire ring, picnic table, and trash pole.

There is a newer section of the campground that is north of the marina. These campsites have newer asphalt and fire rings and have better access to the updated ADA bath houses. These bath houses are the single-quad bath houses where the toilet and shower are individualized into four quadrants. They are excellent for those campers that might not have travel trailers or self-contained units.

We were able to hike and fish most days. there is a playground and a basketball court that are functional and easy to access for families. The campground is mostly flat which makes it very easy to ride a bike. There were a lot of kids and adults riding bikes or scooters in the campground. There are also three trailers that have been converted into mobile homes near the marina for those campers that don’t have access to a pop-up or a camper for rent. They look very nice. The marina is also very nice and has a lot of simple supplies and merchandise.

When the dam is not releasing generators, you can wade out into the river from your campsite and fish; however, when they release the generators this is going to be very difficult. The only drawback is that you are inundated all day long with boat motors going up and down White River. It is very tranquil and peaceful in the mornings and evenings.

There are many different outfitters that do fishing trips. We chartered the afternoon with a local outfitter and had a great time. We caught a number of trout and were able to eat them for dinner on our last night. If you like to fish, enjoy camping, and enjoy doing both of those things, Bull-Shoals-White River state park is the place to go. I will definitely be going back!

    Richard's Canoe Rental & Campground

Nice spot to camp and the people are Great!!

We stayed here to utilize their shuttle services for kayaking the 11 point. It was the week before the Memorial Day holiday and we had the place to ourselves! There are bathrooms available and hot showers, awesome people to chat with and a cool dog named Dan. We stayed in the primitive camping section but were informed there are also cabins available. Our site was just what we needed with a Rim fire pit and a couple of picnic tables. Richards definitely catered to us as we decided at the last minute to take another float and they jumped right in and made it happen for us. The convince of having your own vehicle waiting for you after a long day of floating is worth every dime you pay for it! I would highly recommend Richards for their shuttle services and camping area.

    Twin Bridges Canoe Campground

    Early season, limited services

Tent camped here with a group of private boat paddlers from all over the country. Campground operations had not really started for the season. I arrived after dark and could not find the tent campsites. Nearly drove into deep mud on gravel road past RV sites. Fortunately had just enough cell signal to access their website. Found a campground map three layers deep on reservation page and located my group.

Tent sites were well-located along the river with basic tables and fire rings. I never found the store to be open so paid camping fee at bar and cafe at entrance. Great breakfast. $25/night for tents.  Grass had not been mowed and was deep in tent area. RV sites appear to be a work in progress with much erosion around the new pads and access road. What may have been a shower house had key code locks but there was never anyone to ask. Bathrooms near the entrance lacked tp in some stalls. All one afternoon and evening a group of kids with gas weed trimmers  noisely worked on a slope adjacent to the RV area.

This campground should improve over time a the management appears to be developing the grounds.

    Blue Heron Campground

    Some nice amenities, some lacking.

My wife and I camped here for four nights. Overall it was nice, but there were some things that I wish we knew. The location is great in the sense that it’s easy to get to and it’s laid out well. Unfortunately, it’s directly under an overpass and it is loud- loud enough that I used ear plugs at night.

It’s located on the White river and has a very nice gravel boat ramp, which is a big positive. It also has fishing access during low water.

The WiFi is excellent and the staff are super helpful and friendly.

The biggest plus for us is the bathrooms were among the best that we have found. They’re clean and fairly new.

There is plenty of property to walk and they were very pet friendly. It looks like many of the guests are long term residents.

Guide to Gamaliel

Camping cabins near Gamaliel, Arkansas provide access to both Norfork Lake and the White River in the heart of the Ozarks at approximately 700 feet elevation. The area experiences four distinct seasons with summer temperatures reaching the 90s and winter lows sometimes below freezing. During spring and fall, cabin campers can expect mild temperatures and colorful scenery, with morning fog often lifting from the water surfaces.

What to do

Trout fishing access: Bull Shoals-White River State Park offers direct river access for anglers. "The trout are plentiful and definitely test your skill. Sitting next to a campfire at night with hot coco is one of our favorite things," notes a visitor who has spent multiple Thanksgiving holidays at the park.

Eagle watching: Blue Heron Campground provides opportunities to observe wildlife from riverside sites. A camper mentioned, "We got to Eagle watch all day as they circled the river hunting for their dinner. It was AMAZING!!"

Hiking trails: Buffalo Point at Buffalo National River features several hiking options. "We did the Over Look trail and it was pretty well maintained. We also went to the Rush Ghost Town and did the short loop to check it out," shares a visitor from their June trip.

What campers like

Swimming options: At Panther Bay Park on Norfork Lake, the water access is excellent. "This is a small site but you get all the trimmings. Mature trees water sites flush toilets showers electrical hook ups," notes a visitor, though they caution that rainy seasons can flood some sites.

Cabin privacy: White Buffalo Resort's cabin options receive high marks for their location. "Located at the end of the world, it will take a bit to get there but the drive is worth it," shares one camper about these secluded accommodations where the White and Buffalo rivers meet.

Concrete pads: The level sites at Blue Heron Campground make cabin and RV setup easy. One repeat visitor explains, "Excellent concrete pads with easy back-in markings for RVs. Great cement patio so there is no mud in case of rain. Each site has its own fire pit and 2 chairs."

What you should know

Water level fluctuations: Water levels can change rapidly near cabin rentals. A Buffalo Point visitor noted, "We saw a park ranger on Sunday and asked about the water level and she said it had gone up 12 feet by Saturday night and Sunday morning it was 13 feet."

Seasonal closures: Not all cabin accommodations are open year-round. Bidwell Point Park cabins operate from May 1 to October 31, while Henderson Park has a similar season from May 1 to September 30.

Varied amenities: Kitchen facilities differ widely between cabin options. While some have full kitchens, Hand Cove Resort cabins have more limited facilities, and as one visitor noted, "This was the first place we stayed where there wasn't a comfort station. We quickly found the laundry won't get your clothes dry."

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Bull Shoals-White River State Park offers kid-friendly facilities. "There is a playground and amphitheater as well," notes a camper, adding that the park also features "a really nice wildflower walking trail that you can walk to from the campground."

Educational programs: Ranger-led activities enhance cabin stays for children. One visitor to Bull Shoals-White River shared, "The park had several activities available. We went to an owl talk and a bear talk that was very informative. We also did the lake cruise."

Swimming spots: At Jordan Campground on Norfork Lake, families find diverse water activities. "Kids had a blast here! Cliff jumping, great fishing, kayaking, swim beach, and even pizza from the marina!" reports a parent who visited with children.

Tips from RVers

Site selection: When choosing cabin or RV sites at Bidwell Point Park, consider the approach angle. A camper warns, "If you are not proficient in backing your camper sites 10-13 are probably not the best choice. You have to back down a hill quite a ways."

Connectivity concerns: Cell service varies widely across cabin locations. At Buffalo Point, a visitor noted there is "no service in the camp site at all," while a camper at Hand Cove Resort reported, "My Verizon signal was excellent and I was able to do video calls and Remote Desktop into other computers with no issues."

Weather preparation: Seasonal changes affect cabin comfort significantly. "Sometimes there is fog on the river making for great pictures. The trout are plentiful and definitely test your skill," shares a Bull Shoals-White River visitor who has camped during cold Thanksgiving holidays.
