    Whitewater RV Park

    No frills Downhome

Mountain View is a great small town in the Arkansas Ozarks. This is not the place to come if you have to be entertained but can make your own fun or settle back and relax. Whitewater RV Park sounds exciting, high speed but no. Time to kickback, read a book, head to the square and listen to the ozark mountain music they are famous for. You can find all kinds of things to do and a place to stay is at Whitewater RV Park on a quiet town street not that far off from the court square. Free WiFi and if you pay extra you can get high speed wireless. Cable tv, pull through sites, dump station, full hook ups, laundry, shower house, flush toilets. This park has mature trees with lots of shade. It is located walking distance from the courthouse which is in the middle of the square. Granted it is UP the hill but it makes for a nice walk. In the square during the season you will often find locals and visitors picking and singing. It is a treat and free for the enjoyment. Mountain View also has one of the few remaining Drive In movie theaters. Check this place out for the weekly and monthly rates. Stay six nights and get seventh one free. For a small town Mountain View has so much to offer it’s guests. It brings our minds to days gone be. Weekends will find pickers on the square or concerts at Ozark Folk Center. Few campgrounds have pools but you can find a creek to dip your toes in. You have your choice of stand up paddle board canoe kayak Loco Ropes mountain biking hiking antiquing movie’s trail rides fishing I think you have the idea. MOVIES. Blue Sky RV Park

    Great Spot

This place is so much bigger than it looks. Great pull through sites. Great sites for family camping. It is located not far from town on a busy highway Highway 5 but once you pull off the road you would never know. Very shaded and mature trees. Owner has tried to think of everything but you will not find a swimming pool There are several outside family games and the local area is Loaded with fun things to do. Blue Sky even has event space that you can rent if you are staying in the park. 30 and 50 amp service cable TV available, free WiFi high speed with additional charge. Weekly and monthly rates available and check out the seventh night free. White River is not far, bring a boat or rent one. Trout fishing is great. Your options are open in this small community.  Get ready because Arkansas has ticks, chiggers, and humidity.

Mountain View RV Park and Guest Motel

Good Things Come In Small Packages

I have driven by this campground numerous times not paying a lot of attention. Today I paid attention and realized I have made a mistake. There is a high fence that assist in keep this corner of Mountain View private. An oasis for anyone that wishes to venture in. A traveler will find a welcome smile and an amazing view. They will also find a well maintained campground and a motel. The campground offers concrete pads or gravel, 30 and 50 amp service, full hook ups, cable tv, wi-fi, high speed for extra fee, coin operated laundry, community fire pit with wood provided, dog friendly, showers and toilets and more. The motel offers all the amenities you would expect to find in a branded hotel/motel. There are eight motel rooms and two cabins available for rent. Both the campground and motel have access to two recreation rooms. Both have full kitchens, tv, stereo, dining tables and chairs. One recreation room has limited exercise equipment. There is 1.5 acres of green space that is also available for all guest. The view from the green space is worth dreaming over that morning cup of coffee. There are things you will not find in many campgrounds in Mountain View. Much of the entertainment in this area will be of a natural source. Weekends will find pickers on the square or concerts at the Ozark Folk Center. If you want to take a dip look to the creeks or the river. Stand up paddle boarding, canoe, kayak, Loco Ropes, mountain bike trails, hiking, antiquing, trail rides, fishing and I’m sure you get the idea. Movies. There is a movie theatre and the cherry on top is a drive in movie. Mountain View Drive In is one of only a few left in the US. You will find first run movies at both.

    Dam Site Campground

    Very nice and clean

We stayed 3 nights over a weekend in early September. We had a pull through site in loop N that was perfect for our 41’ fifth wheel...plenty big, clean, and level. It was a little sunny, but other than that no complaints. The other loops were more wooded, but wouldn’t be good for big rigs. We will definitely come again.

    Dam - Quarry

    Clean campground, nice location

Average space between sites. Level paved sites with gravel picnic area including picnic table, fire ring, lantern hanger. Some sites had covered picnic area. Limited shade, most sites don’t have trees. Good access to sites. Clean and private bathrooms. Each room had its own lockable bathroom with toilet, sink and shower. Garbage cans were outside of bathrooms, as well as dumpsters near the registration building. Friendly staff upon check in. Campground was patrolled regularly. No laundry or recycling. Nearby road with little road noise. Verizon cell signal was excellent. There is a dump station and potable fill station. No store or food for purchase on site. No hiking in campground, but multiple trails nearby. Boat ramp at campground and lots of wading fly fishing in river. Fish hatchery across from campground.

    Sylamore Creek Camp

    Great site!

We love this campground. We love having direct access to creek. It is kayak, family, pet friendly. The only thing it is lacking is internet connection, which for us is a plus for disconnecting. All sites are reasonably level. Site F is the premium and most secluded full hook up site. They have all levels of sites: primitive, water and electric, or full. Their small store has firewood and many other convenient items for sale. We take our own kayaks, but they do have rentals. They have public showers and restrooms, but the restrooms are currently closed due to renovations. It’s really one of our favorite local sites to camp.

Greers Ferry Dam Site is one of several around the lake created by the Greers Ferry Dam which created the 40,000 acre lake.  The dam was dedicated by John F Kennedy one month prior to his death.

Be aware that many of the sites might be hard to back into or hard to level your rig.  The area is thickly wooded and that might make it difficult.  There are a lot of large moss covered rocks that help to set the scene for  wooded wonderland for tents and smaller rigs.  Check your site before parking this park like many of the Corp of Engineer parks are older and built with tent and small RV's in mind.  It is a beautiful site and in Arkansas you must try the fishing

Directions:  3 miles northeast of Heber Springs, AR by way of SR 25 Bypass.

Choctaw is located several miles outside the town of Clinton Arkansas.  I would advise stocking up before leaving home or in Clinton.  Located in the gently rolling hills of the Ozarks.  The roads are in good shape but like most roads in Arkansas they could be considered, not narrow, but not exactly wide.  The campground is located right off the road so watch for your turn.  Choctaw is one of the few parks in the Greers Ferry complex that is right off the main road.

The site numbers are well marked on the entrance of each site.  Some sites are more level than others and some are shorter than others.  Longer rigs will have to pay close attention to the size of the sites.  Area is well wooded giving a large amount of shade and a lot of needles and leaves.  If you don't carry a good broom you might want one to sweep your pad.  Trees are mainly pine so shade will continue through winter.  While we were there it was time for mowing but generally COE parks are well maintained

Little Red River and the Greers Ferry Lake produce an amazing outdoor experience.  Sitting all along the banks of Greers Ferry Lake you are able to have your pick of any number of COE campgrounds and private campgrounds.  Choctaw is a good example.

Arkansas is called "The Natural State" and it does live up to its name.  Greers Ferry is located in Cleburne County Arkansas with several small towns dotted around the lake.  There are between 30,000 to 40,000 acres of crystal clear water depending on the season and the rains.  You may fish, scuba dive, water ski, SUP, kayak, canoe, swim or just relax at your campsite.  Your choice but is geared toward the outdoor life.

Fishing is the sport of the day here.  You will find some of "The Best" fishing in the south with some bragging "In The World".  The lake holds the record for bass at 27 lbs 50 oz.  Tournaments begin in April and go through October.  Whether you are a local or a visitor fishing is done year round.  Every game fish native to Arkansas is stocked and maintained by the Arkansas Game and Fish.  Depending on the time of the year you are able to look forward to trophy size striped bass, walleye, and trout.  That is not to say you shouldn't hook your share of channel catfish, bigmouth and white bass and crappie.

    Have fun.  Stay safe.

    Blue Heron Campground

    Some nice amenities, some lacking.

My wife and I camped here for four nights. Overall it was nice, but there were some things that I wish we knew. The location is great in the sense that it’s easy to get to and it’s laid out well. Unfortunately, it’s directly under an overpass and it is loud- loud enough that I used ear plugs at night.

It’s located on the White river and has a very nice gravel boat ramp, which is a big positive. It also has fishing access during low water.

The WiFi is excellent and the staff are super helpful and friendly.

The biggest plus for us is the bathrooms were among the best that we have found. They’re clean and fairly new.

There is plenty of property to walk and they were very pet friendly. It looks like many of the guests are long term residents.

Guide to Big Flat

RV parks near Big Flat, Arkansas offer access to the Ozark Mountains and the Buffalo River basin, with elevations ranging from 600 to 1,400 feet. Located in north-central Arkansas, these campgrounds experience humid summers with temperatures averaging 85-95°F and mild winters with occasional freezing temperatures. Fall camping coincides with peak foliage season when the hardwood forests display vibrant colors from late October through early November.

What to do

Fishing access: Denton Ferry RV Park provides excellent fishing opportunities on the White River. "The people are great, can't great the location for fishing and paddling. Look forward to more visits," notes Leslie D., who regularly stays at the park for fishing trips.

Live music experiences: Mountain View is known for traditional Ozark folk music. "Weekends will find pickers on the square or concerts at Ozark Folk Center," mentions a visitor of Green Acres RV Park, which offers sites within walking distance of the town square performances.

Paddling outings: Multiple waterways near Big Flat provide kayaking opportunities. "Started there many times for fishing and kayaking," reports one Denton Ferry visitor. The Buffalo River is accessible from several nearby RV parks with rentals available seasonally from March through October, with costs averaging $45-60 per kayak per day.

Small town exploration: Gilbert (population 28) offers a unique river town experience. "The quiet little town with some live music occasionally. Probably just a little over a quarter mile walk to the river or drive down to gravel bed where you can park," explains a camper at Gilbert RV Park.

What campers like

Proximity to water: Campsites near rivers rank high among visitors. "It is a small RV park. We had a back in spot along the ridge with a pretty field behind us and an amazing view," reports a visitor at Mountain View RV Park, which offers concrete pads with views.

Spacious sites: Less crowding appeals to many RVers. "Amazing little campground, spaces are very well spaced. 30-50 feet between RV sites," notes a visitor at Into the Woods RV Park near Yellville, showing that some parks prioritize privacy over density.

Swimming options: While most RV parks near Big Flat lack pools, lake and river access compensates. "The lake here is beautiful. The dock is nice as well... They have a huge section of floating dock that you can lounge/fish on. And, it's easy to get in and out of the water," writes one visitor about Hand Cove Resort RV Park.

Clean facilities: Well-maintained bathhouses matter to campers. "Bath house is clean and new. Homey little campsite," reports a return visitor to Into the Woods RV Park, which maintains modern sanitary facilities despite its small size of only 6 sites.

What you should know

Limited connectivity: Internet access varies significantly. "My Verizon signal was excellent and I was able to do video calls and Remote Desktop into other computers with no issues," reports a camper at Hand Cove Resort RV Park, though many campgrounds in deeper valleys have spotty coverage.

Seasonal closures: Many RV parks near Big Flat operate seasonally. Whitewater RV Park operates "March 15 to 1st week November" according to their information, making winter camping options limited in the area.

Leveling challenges: Uneven terrain affects site quality. "We had to use 6x6 blocks of wood from the caretaker's wood pile as a foundation to jack the front end of my class C motorhome up. The front wheels were 6 inches off the ground with the jacks fully extended and we barely made level," reports one camper about a challenging site.

Shopping access: Basic supplies require planning. "A fourth generation country grocery store is about two miles away and includes a real butcher shop and fresh produce. A Walmart, full service hardware store... make this a great location," notes a resident at Into the Woods RV Park.

Tips for camping with families

Dog-friendly options: Most parks welcome pets with minimal restrictions. "It's a pet friendly site however if your dogs bark neighbors will complain," advises a camper at Denton Ferry RV Park, where site 15 offers "a large area for dogs or family."

Water recreation: Swimming opportunities exist despite few pools. "We had an amazing time here.. From the pad to the views..I would highly recommend this park," mentions a camper about lake access at Whitewater RV Park, where children can safely enjoy water activities.

Entertainment alternatives: Blue Sky RV Park provides on-site recreation. "There are several outside family games and the local area is loaded with fun things to do," reports a visitor, noting the park's effort to provide alternatives to electronic entertainment.

Accessibility considerations: Walking distances vary between attractions and campsites. At Gilbert RV Park, one visitor notes it's "probably just a little over a quarter mile walk to the river or drive down to gravel bed where you can park. Take all your stuff and play in the river all day."

Tips from RVers

Site selection strategy: Look for sites with concrete pads where available. "Our site was very long. It was nice to be able to unhook and have plenty of room for the 5th wheel and truck," reports a Blue Sky RV Park visitor, though they also noted, "Hard to level. We were unable to use auto level and had to manually level."

Tree clearance: Mature trees enhance shade but require adequate clearance. "Lots of tall trees that are well trimmed above RVs," notes a Blue Sky visitor, while another camper appreciates that at Into the Woods RV Park, "spaces are very well spaced. 30-50 feet between RV sites."

Hookup variations: Full-service sites aren't universal. Classic RV Park offers "nice safe overnight spot cheap propane refills friendly staff" according to one visitor, with options for overnight stays with minimal setup requirements.

Seasonal temperature management: Summer heat requires planning. "This is probably an excellent site in spring or fall. However summertime is hot at the site because of the lack of shade trees," advises a Denton Ferry RV Park visitor about specific sites to avoid during hot months.
