Within Apache National Forest, Deer Creek Campground provides drive-in access to forested terrain near water features. This US Forest Service facility operates year-round with drinking water, restrooms, fire rings, and picnic tables at each site. Pets are welcome throughout the campground.
The access road presents rough conditions that may challenge low-clearance vehicles. Creek proximity offers water access, while the forested setting provides natural shade and screening between sites. For additional options beyond this location, campers can explore camping near Alpine or check out nearby Apache National Forest Aspen Forest Camp less than half a mile northeast.
Description
Deer Creek Campground is the most rustic area along the East Fork of the Black River. The East Fork meanders through the forested valley shaded by tall ponderosa pines and bordered by grasses, alders, and streamside hardwoods. Campsites are located a few steps from the stream to protect the Black River's unique riparian zone, but access to the river is easy as the undergrowth serves more to enhance the river's picturesque nature than to obstruct easy passage.
