    Stoney Creek RV Park

Close to Seward with RV amenities

This 81 site RV Park has full hook ups including cable for RVs. Showers and laundry facilities on site. WiFi available. Campfires allowed at creekside sites. The park provides shuttle service to and from Seward and the tour boats will send shuttles for pick-up/drop off for cruises. Close proximity to Kenai Fjords NP including exit glacier.

These sites are close together and unfortunately the bathroom/shower facilities need improvement. Bathroom stalls have saloon type doors that are too small to provide privacy. Showers only have curtains and no separate area for changing.

Kenai Princess Wilderness Lodge & RV Park

Beautiful Location in Cooper Landing - Salmon Lovers Paradis

This RV Park offers full hook ups with laundry, shower, and full service market on site. The showers were very clean with excellent water pressure ($2.00 for 10 min). Laundry facilities was large and clean. Market staff were extremely friendly and knowledgeable about area. They were kind enough to lend us bear spray for our Russian River hike. Lending library also available in market place to exchange for a new book.

The Princess Lodge itself is large with 2 restaurants and a large deck that looks out onto the Kenai. They offer shuttle service to and from the lodge and RV Park as needed. The lodge also has a beautiful trail with decks looking into the Kenai the shuttle can take you to and from as needed.

The market staff were really amazing and we enjoyed our stay here very much. We tried one of the restaurants in the Lodge and unfortunately weren’t too impressed. We will definitely stay at this RV site again in the future. Can’t beat the location and hospitality!

If you are looking for long term life in your RV. Then maybe. Otherwise just keep on driving. You’re in Alaska. There is so much more.

    Russian river camp ground alaska

Amazing weekend. Tucked back in the chugach national forest is a quiet campground that is hard to get into without prior planning. No Rv hookups but does have a dump station and potable wAter. Campsites are nicely spaced so your not camping on top of each other. Amazing fishing for trout and salmon. Lots of hiking trails and tons of tourist activities near by.

If you are looking for hook ups

This is just outside of Seward. There is a market within walking distance. This is not a greatly dispersed campground. They do offer full hook ups for $45, partial $40, and dry $30. They also offer weekly and monthly deals on the full hook up sites. This is not my favorite choice but it is an option. With the proximity of stuff nearby I would consider staying here if I was looking at full hook ups. You can also dump there so that is a plus.

Cell Service: Yes Internet: Yes 2020 Cost: $30-$45 Distance from Anchorage: 114 miles Bug Factor (1 minimal to 10 too many to enjoy): 5

    Golden Nugget RV Park

    A City Campground

Wide gravel and grass site with wooden picnic table, no firepit. Several RV tour companies use this park. There are more than 200 sites in this park. Showers were clean and free. Nice laundry room. About 1/4 of park is occupied by long-term residents - clean and well maintained. Park is located within a couple miles of downtown, across street from Costco, and adjacent to a large run down mobile home neighborhood. Wi-fi is offered, but we were too far away from the office so couldn't connect.

    Very nice military camp grounds

Stayed 2 nights on labor day weekend. Very cool spot. All campsites were pull through. Facilities were nice and well maintained. Full hook ups. Only bad thing was a ton of wasps. Spotted 4 giant nests within 200 ft of my camp spot otherwise great

    Not really our thing

We’re not big rv park people so it wasn’t really our thing but as far as rv parks it was nice. The restaurant being right there was great we were able to enjoy cocktails and dinner on the deck

Best RV site I've stayed in. Period. Site was great, plenty of space, the day use area was right in the lake, and good fishing within 20 minutes.

Probably the nicest Rv park in the area. Grounds clean and well kept. Has a creek that runs along the edge of the grounds and a awesome view of the mountains.

    Whitter Parking and Camping

    Serves a purpose

Very basic and full of mosquitos in July especially if you're tucked in close to the foliage. But this is a great place to stay if you're chartering from Whittier. Everything is within walking distance and there are some great hikes and fishing too.

It's just not pretty. Very muddy if it's raining too. It is quiet except for the white noise of the glacier run off just feet from the sites.

    Granite Creek

Granite creek on the Kenai Lake

Granite creek is a great stop in between Anchorage Alaska and anywhere else south.

I only gave it a four stars because tent users must place there tent on gravel or pavement and not dirt so they can regrow the dirt areas.. As I know how important this is.. we had tents.. Not at all comfortable even with pads under us. So if you are an RV or camper trailer you are in luck!

Camp sites are spacious and have a fire pit and table. There is also plenty of trees and vegetation between camping spaces so you feel far away.

You can reserve a spot and I would recommend this if you plan on camping in the months of late June, or July.. as fishing season is truly a season here in Alaska and camp sites are golden. Water pumps and state bathrooms are here. Anytime you can get a toilet and paper in the woods is a plus :)

We use this campsite every August as a "Going back to school Celebration" for parents or a " Last hang out of summer" for the kids. The paved loop offers good space for biking, throwing a ball or side walk chalk and you can bring your choice of boat to fish or float in the lake. ( Remember if you fish in Alaska you need a fishing license ages 16+)

You get an amazing view of kenai mountains here and your typical Alaskan wildlife.. magpie, moose, eagle and sometimes bear.. although we have never seen a bear here, I highly encourage bear safety. This includes keeping your camp clean, food in your car and carrying bear spray.

Dogs are allowed here and we have never been told to leash them.. we rarely see a camp host coming site to site except to check that you have paid properly.

Some sites border the kenai river which can run pretty vast, cold and hard, so if you so choose that site please be respectable of the water and its ways.

There is a fee for staying here around 14.00 and a lovely little ice cream parlor at the corner to tell your children that if they are good camping you for see ice cream in their future :)

Black Bear Campground — Chugach National Forest

    Warnings: wind, water, and wildlife

This campground has all three warnings, sometimes.  There is a really nice boardwalk and the drive to this campground is great.  This is a smaller campground with only 12 sites that are not suitable for RVs.  If you are in an RV look at the williwaw campground instead.    It is centrally located between Anchorage and the Peninsula but has so many things to offer.  Trip through the Whittier tunnel is a definite.  If you are a hiker Byron glacier in good weather is decent hike.  If you have kids and even if you don’t then the Wildlife Conservation Center of Alaska is great way to get close to the biggest animals Alaska has to offer.   During the autumn and winter this campground is still open but not maintained.  Toilets may not be available so bring your own TP and prepare to pack out all your trach.   Cell Service: No Internet: No 2020 Cost: $14 Distance from Anchorage: 55 Bug Factor (1 minimal to 10 too many to enjoy): 5 if it gets sunny the bugs come out

    Watch the reviews

Some of the reviews are not for this campground. These are walk in tent sites. There are no spots for RVs or trailers. Firewood is a fun place and not too far from Anchorage.

Make sure if you are coming from Anchorage you stop off at Potters Marsh and check out the boardwalk. So many hiking trails no matter what way you go.

    Quartz Creek Campground

    Wonderful Campground for all

This USFS Campground is right off the highway at Kenai Lake near Coopers Landing. Easy access for most any size RVs or trailers, well spaced, improved, level sites with big wooden tables and metal fire pits with metal cooking grates. Water and very clean restrooms and locking trash cans throughout the 2 loops. There is a boat launch. One side has Quartz Creek  running along it and another has lakefront campsites. There are first come, first served as well as reserved campsites. Some are single ($18) and some are doubles ($28) and there is a dump station. Salmon run up Quartz Creek and once they arrive the Bears will too. Very close to Coopers Landing and the Russian River. Lots of hiking, Mtn Biking trails, boating and fishing within very close distances as well as small stores, gas stations....

This is a great, quiet campground very close to many popular areas in Alaska. It is very busy once the Red Salmon arrive, esp fron mid July to mid August...

    Nice little getaway

This campground is nice, picturesque, and spacious. Lots of trees for privacy! We like it because it’s close to home and a town, so a morning trip to get coffee is not out of the question. I hear that at least one of the local pizza places delivers here too! (Haven’t tested that out personally.) Nice, paved, level campsites for RVs, and plenty of space to put a tent on softer ground.

    JBER Life

Must be able to access JBER via veteran status, DOD or military. A great spot to chill for the weekend but still be close to base life. Great for veterans who want a base to explore Anchorage or visit family. Playground for the kids, showers, dump and full hookups.

    Accessible camping

Great to have a place so close to town just to stop for an overnight. Get there early for a spot on the weekends. Sites are small for the most part, better for RVs or a small tent. Some traffic noise throughout

Must Stay in Chugach National Forest

Williwaw Campground near Portage Glacier is a must stay for those visiting Chugach National Forest. Located central to several hiking trails, salmon viewing, and 1.5mi from the visitor center. This campground offers large sites for RVs and tents alike. Picnic tables and fantastic fire pits at every site. Vault toilets and potable water available. We are looking forward to staying here again soon!

Eagle River Campground - Chugach State Park

    But unkempt but nice otherwise

We stayed here twice in our travels on Alaska. First appearance, the grasses are overgrown at the “entrance” and i was concerned. The fee both looks abandoned. But we actually saw there were some beautiful camp sites. Nice size for rvs if all lengths. Our table needed some help and it is obvious the camp is not being maintained. The bathroom was clean. Some sites you can hear the river and some road noise. The river is beautiful. There is a dumpster but it is on an upper level next to the dump station which is closed. The first time we did not realize this and took our garbage with us. All in all, it is not a bad campground. The trees are beautiful. We also had a moose and calf hanging around. We came back for a second visit. We used it as a jumping off point for Anchorage. Also the Eagle Nature Center and its trails are amazing! Saw a bull moose there. Would use again if not super picky. We are camping folks! For $20 I would not complain.

Military Park Fort Richardson Upper Otter Lake Campground

    Speachless

This campground has it all! Situated on a beautiful lake that just so happens to be a loon sanctuary there is a boat house for you to rent paddle boats, kayaks, and more. Tons of water fowl and the occasions moose or bear. Must be able to get on base unfortunately but for those with base access this is the best of it all. RV spots all face the lake too. All tent, RV and cabins have their own firepit, picnic table and shared floating docks. This is by far one of our favorite places to camp.

    Trail River

1 mile in on Trail River Road

This is a huge campground.  91 spots, a group site and a loop just for RVs and can be booked online. The road out to this campground is bumpy so take it slow.  There are many potholes in the dirt road to this campsite. I almost missed the turn headed here so watch for the Trail River Road sign.  There are a number of pull throughs.  I did like 2, 11, and 14 but there are lots of options.   There are also some site like 4 and 5 that are together if there is more than one vehicle in your group.   Cell Service: no Internet: no 2020 Cost: $18 Distance from Anchorage: 97 miles Best sites: 2, 11, 14 or any pull though Bug Factor (1 minimal to 10 too many to enjoy): 6

    City of Whittier Camp Ground

Mediocre Campground in a Spectacular Setting

This is a glorified parking lot, for sure, but it is set in the middle of an Alaskan wilderness wonderland. In every direction you look lies stunning views: mountains, glaciers, fjords, waterfalls, and rivers.  What the campground lacks in charm, the scenery simply overwhelms. The sites lie around the perimeter of the square, where there are some grass areas for tents and ample places for RVs of any length. If you can make it through the tunnel, there's room for your rig.  Pay for your site at one of the village parking machines near the marina.

The two vault toilets were clean enough to get the job done. There is water and a dumpster or two for trash– but remember, you’re not there for the campground.  The surrounding area is gorgeous, but as the locals say, "The weather is always shittier in Whittier!"  We got 1.5 nice days and it rained the rest of the time.  Regardless, we fit a lot in!

A note about generator etiquette, while there is no rule stating that you can’t run your generator all night long, that does not invite you to do so. If you must power whatever it is you have to run while you sleep there is a better way to do so without impacting your neighbors. Check us out at https://freedominacan.com/solar-powered-by-renogy for all the solar power information you could possibly want.

If you are lucky enough to visit when the sun shines, consider yourself extra blessed and don’t waste a minute of that time inside! There’s a short biking/ walking path into the town from the campground, take a boat excursion, go for a guided sea kayaking paddle(complete with viewing 1,000 foot waterfall) or explore the area on foot. There’s a great hiking trail which starts right across the main road. It’s stunning.

The town has a few services, including gas, bars and restaurants and a convenience store. There’s not a lot of options in town though so come prepared.

    Camp anywhere you can find

This is the best camping in Alaska. Just find a spot big enough for your rig it tent and pull off. There are many regularly used sites that have rock fire rings already made. Always make sure you are not in a drive way and that there are no POSTED signs to keep off property. Bug shelters highly recommended because depending on the year it’s mosquitoes, flies, or bees.
