Cooper Creek North Campground

US Forest Service operates Cooper Creek North Campground along the Sterling Highway in Chugach National Forest, charging $33 per night during the May 22 to September 1 season. The campground accommodates RVs up to 99 feet and provides toilets, trash service, and cell coverage, though no hookups are available at individual sites.

Sites spread throughout the forested loop offer space between neighbors, with fast-moving Cooper Creek running along the north side of the campground. Each site includes a picnic table, fire pit, and bear-proof food storage locker. The campground sits directly across from a barbecue restaurant and provides easy highway access for travelers heading toward Homer or other Kenai Peninsula destinations.

Fishing draws most visitors here, particularly during salmon runs when the campground fills quickly. Tanya B. notes that "during the height of the fishing season this campground fills up fast." Campers report good cell service and appreciate the proximity to both Cooper Creek and the nearby Kenai River for angling opportunities.

The no-pets policy distinguishes this campground from many others in the area. For additional camping choices, visitors can explore campgrounds around Cooper Landing or check the companion Cooper Creek South location just downstream.

Campers regularly cited the spacious, level sites and reasonable pricing as key strengths. The basic facilities include pit toilets and bear lockers but no hookups. Popular with fishing enthusiasts during salmon season.

River views near a bbq restaurant

There is a south campground along the river and a north loop along the creek. We stayed in the south camp at the end of September so it was “no services no fees” at that time. There’s a bbq restaurant across the street. There are food storage lockers at each site because of bears. Most other campers were there to fish.

Lovely convenient campground

It's salmon fishing season and you can tell people are staying here to fish the Kenai River, which is great. It was a very convenient campsite off the highway on the way to Homer, in the national forest. only $23 a night to camp or $11.50 if your a senior or have an access pass. Great prize for Alaska, but of course no amenities at site such as water, electric etc. It's a dry spot.

Good size sites and level spots with picnic table and fire pit. Enjoyed our night here ...

Lots of Space

Very basic campground with no amenities. Lots of space between sites with fast moving water on the north side.

Small campground right on the river

We loved this campground! Perfect for two adults in Campervan that like privacy. We stayed in the first site and while it was sort of close to the road the noise wasn’t bad because you have the river so close. Perhaps not the best site for small children. But with limited access to the kenai, we were happy to have our own spot and no one walking though our site at all.

Fills up quick

During the height of the fishing season this campground fills up fast. Get there early in the week for a chance for a spot. This campground has all the usually amenities, pit toilets, port cell service, and dispersed camping spots.
