Fishing Hole Campground

Road noise from the nearby highway accompanies camping at this gravel lot campground on Homer's famous spit. The facility operates as a basic parking area next to the fishing hole lagoon, where marked sites aren't always clearly defined and waterfront spots fill quickly on a first-come, first-served basis.

Campers share restroom facilities with day-use fishing visitors, creating a busy atmosphere during peak salmon runs. The dump station operates on an honor system, and the $20 nightly rate makes this one of the more affordable options for staying directly on the spit. Doug H. notes that "restrooms are community shared with the local public fishing in the lagoon" and describes the setup as "better than an outhouse."

The campground's location provides walking access to restaurants and shops along the spit, eliminating the need to drive for meals or supplies. Wind exposure is common given the open coastal setting. Big rigs can navigate the gravel surface, and pets are welcome throughout the facility.

For a quieter alternative with more defined sites, Homer Spit Campground offers a different experience further down the peninsula.

Visitors often highlighted the affordable pricing and convenient Homer Spit location with beach access. Some noted concerns about the basic gravel lot setup and crowded conditions during busy periods.

Close to all the stuff, love the sounds of the ocean

As long as you don’t mind a little car noise (I don’t) this is a great spot. Right on the beach with easy access to bathrooms and all the restaurants on The Spit - it’s not the most secluded spot but it’s a great way to enjoy the area.

Gorgeous views

This is just a gravel lot and the site markings are not super clear. The water front ones are the best, but since it’s FCFS you need to be there before the weekend rush.

Restrooms are community shared with the local public fishing in the lagoon. Better than an outhouse. There is a dump station on site that used to be free now it’s on the honor system to pay using the machine.

In the middle of it all on the Spit

We stayed 4 nights. It is a gravel lot next to the fishing hole on the Homer Spit. The camp host was very nice. It is the best spot to dry camp on the spit as it is easy to walk to everything. At $20 per night it is half the cost of the next cheapest place.
