Mature forest covers most of Lackawanna State Park Campground, and that canopy is one of the first things campers notice on arrival. Set within a state park about two miles south of Fleetville, the campground runs along Lackawanna Lake and draws a range of camping styles, from RV rigs to walk-in tent sites to yurts and camper cabins. Site spacing varies noticeably across the loops: some spots sit close together in mixed-use areas where generators from neighboring RVs are a real possibility, while others, like site 52, give campers considerably more room. Knowing which loop to request makes a difference here.
The lake anchors most of the activity on the property. A trail runs directly alongside it, and the lakefront area gives campers access to fishing, boat rentals, and watercraft. No gas motors are allowed on the water, which keeps things noticeably quieter out on the lake. The park also has a large pool and an environmental education center with programs, though the pool has been closed during some summer visits, worth confirming before arrival if swimming is a priority. Jill summed up a midweek stay simply: "pretty woods and clean bathrooms."
A newer loop called the Ledges features full hookup sites with larger footprints, a good option for RVs up to 40 feet. Older electric hookups elsewhere in the park have tripped circuit breakers at loads above 30 amps, so campers with higher-demand rigs should be aware of that limitation. Bathhouses are generally reported as clean. Paved sites are common, though at least one reviewer noted an unlevel pad with an awkward table and fire ring placement.
Scranton sits close enough for resupply runs, and the campground makes a reasonable overnight stop for travelers passing through on Interstate 81. Campers wanting more options in the region can browse camping near Lackawanna State Park for nearby alternatives. George L. put it plainly: "Convenient to Scranton." The season runs from the second Friday in April through the third Sunday in October. Reservations are available and worth booking ahead for summer weekends, when the campground fills and the mix of tent campers and RVs in shared loops gets tight.

Beginning in 2027, the campground at Lackawanna State Park is undergoing a major shower house renovation project. During this time, portions of the campground will be temporarily closed while other areas remain open as work is completed in phases. DCNR is replacing outdated shower and restroom facilities with new, modern, and accessible amenities. The sites which are impacted during this phased project are blocked for reservations on our system. If you see a site is open when you would like to visit, it is not currently impacted by the shower house project.
Air Quality at this campground may currently be unhealthy for sensitive groups.
