Targhee National Forest Pine Bar Campground

The Greys River Corridor encompasses the area surrounding the Greys River itself and the Greys River Road, and offers numerous opportunities for fishing, kayaking, camping, hiking, OHV riding and horseback riding. The Greys River Road is one of the most popular forest roads on the Bridger-Teton National Forest, running for almost 60 miles from Alpine south to Tri Basin Divide. The Greys River Corridor provides access to several trails in the Wyoming and Salt River Ranges. All campgrounds in the Greys River Corridor have a 16 day stay limit, and those with water and toilets are $10 per night (those without services are free of charge). No reservations are accepted for any of the campgrounds. The main season of use is between Memorial Day and Labor Day.

McCoy Creek

Alpine North Loop Campground is located in beautiful Star Valley, Wyoming at an elevation of 5,640 feet. The cozy town of Alpine is just 2 miles west. Visitors enjoy boating and fishing on Palisades Reservoir, and day-tripping to Jackson and Grand Teton National Park. Recreation Palisades Reservoir is very close, with excellent boating, water skiing, swimming and canoeing. Lake and shore fishing for wild and stocked cutthroat trout is very popular. Brown trout, Kokanee salmon and Mackinaw trout can also be found. Boat ramps are located 2 miles away in Alpine and about 10 miles away near Blowout Campground, off Highway 26. The Grey's River, Salt River and Snake River merge nearby, offering great fishing and wildlife viewing opportunities. The Palisades Creek Trail begins nearby, leading hikers, mountain bikers and horseback riders to beautiful Upper Palisades Lake and expansive views of Swan Valley. Facilities The campground offers three group sites that can accommodate up to 50 people each, with picnic tables and campfire rings with grills. Single and double sites are available as well, some have stairs from the parking spur to the site pad. Vault toilets, drinking water and trash collection are provided, but there is no electricity. Roads and parking spurs within the site are gravel. Firewood is available for purchase from the host. Natural Features The campground is situated near Palisades Reservoir in a forest of lodgepole pines, which provide partial shade. The campground is relatively flat and some sites offer views of Star Valley. Summer wildflowers are abundant. Wind and summer thunderstorms should be expected. Nearby Attractions The town of Alpine is just 2 miles east. The popular Mountain Days Celebration is held annually in June, complete with arts and crafts shows, food, live music, a horseshoe tournament, authentic pioneer village and Native American dancers. Jackson, Wyoming is 40 miles north, with restaurants, shops, galleries and ski resorts with summer activities. Grand Teton National Park is approximately 55 miles north, with boating, fishing, hiking, canoeing and outstanding mountain scenery. The Snake River and Swan Valley offer more great fishing and boating, as well as rafting, canoeing and numerous trails for hiking, biking, horseback and ATV riding. ADA Access: N

Alpine North Loop Campground

Station Creek Campground is located in beautiful Snake River Canyon, just 27 miles southwest of Jackson, in western Wyoming. It sits at an elevation of 5,800 feet. Visitors enjoy fishing and whitewater rafting on the Snake River. Recreation Fly-fishing for cutthroat, rainbow and brown trout is a popular activity on the Snake, as is whitewater rafting and kayaking. A boat ramp is nearby. Facilities The campground offers two group campsites that can accommodate up to 40 people each. The sites are equipped with picnic and serving tables, campfire circles, grills and food storage lockers. Vault toilets and drinking water are provided, but there is no electricity. Firewood can be purchased at the campground. Large parking areas within the facility are dirt. Natural Features The campground is situated in a forest of lodgepole pines, which provide partial shade throughout the campground. Summer wildflowers are abundant in the area. The Snake River can be accessed across the road and down an embankment. Nearby Attractions The city of Jackson is 25 miles north of the campground, offering restaurants, groceries, shops, galleries and ski resorts with summer activities. Grand Teton National Park is approximately 40 miles north, providing opportunities for boating, fishing, hiking, canoeing and outstanding mountain scenery. ADA Access: N

Station Creek Campground

The McCoy Creek Campground is located on the south end of the Palisades Reservoir. From Alpine, WY, take Highway 89 south to Salt River - McCoy Road #087 go west approximately 6 miles the campground. There is a primitive boat ramp at the campground and it is possible to launch small watercraft; rafts, kayaks and canoes. McCoy Creek and Palisades Reservoir offers great fishing. There is very limited shade in the campground. All sites have a gravel surface. There are 17 single units, a full time campground host and firewood is available for sale at the campground. First Come/First Served; Dry Camping (No Host, Bathrooms Locked); No Fee after Fall Closure

East Table Group Campground offers space for camping when campgrounds along the Snake River are nearly full. The campground is located across the highway from the Snake River and offers excellent morning and evening views of the surrounding mountains. It is a good option for groups.

Although abundant, camping in Wyoming is extremely sought after, especially near the park. Twelve campgrounds within Yellowstone National Park provide adventurers with plentiful options, but planning ahead is vital. The Canyon Campground allows easy access to the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, a picture-perfect waterfall and river vista in the north-central region. Visit Artist’s Point and hike the 300 feet down to the lower falls to feel the rush of the Yellowstone River. 


For a more touristy experience, snag a site in the Madison Campground. Being one of the largest in the park and less than 20 miles from the famous geyser Old Faithful, this area is a go-to for first time visitors. Sitting at an elevation just below 7,000 feet, the crisp mountain air will refresh. This area gets a lot of traffic, so pack in your patience and remember that the parks are for everyone to enjoy. 


Camping in Wyoming also gives the chance to get off the grid. Grand Teton National Park is directly to the south of Yellowstone and allows for some easy-access backpacking. When done right, you can avoid the droves of humanity that flock to the Greater Yellowstone region. 


For an easy trek into the backcountry, get a scenic spot along Leigh Lake or String Lake. These camping sites are often booked months in advance, so get them quick! A hidden gem tucked in the shadow of Mount Moran is Bearpaw Lake and is also relatively accessible from the same trail. Remember your bear spray and enjoy some genuine Wyoming camping!
