Located Northwest of Macon and great for camping near Atlanta, High Falls State Park is named for tumbling cascades on the Towaliga River. Boat rental, ramps and fishing docks provide easy access to the park’s lake, known as one of Georgia’s top fishing spots for hybrid and white bass. Overnight visitors can choose from a spacious campground or lakeside yurts, which are like canvas and wood tents. Each yurt features a small deck, picnic table and grill outside, plus furniture, electrical outlets and a ceiling fan inside. During summer, guests may cool off in the park’s swimming pool. Visitors can hike along the river’s edge and through hilly forest to the remains of a hydroelectric power plant foundation. In the early 1800s, this area was a prosperous industrial town with several stores, a grist mill, cotton gin, blacksmith shop, shoe factory and hotel. High Falls fell from prosperity in the 1880s when a major railroad bypassed it. Today, the park is a popular camping destination and a relaxing side trip for travelers on I-75. Reservations, Accommodations & Facilities: -1,050 Acres -650 Acre Lake -6 Yurts -106 Tent, Trailer & RV Campsites, some seasonal -1 Pioneer Campground -1 Paddle-In Primitive Campsite (sleeps 25) -1 Group Shelter (seats 125) -5 Picnic Shelters -River Pavilion — for campground guests only -Swimming Pool (fee) — seasonal -2 Boat Ramps -Playgrounds (Note: the playground in the River Campground B Loop has been removed)

      Indian Springs State Park

      More than expected...unfortunate noise pollution

This is a little gem of a state park. Indian Springs State park has a lot to offer. The camp sites are the other side of the lake from the group and public shelters/picnic areas etc so you feel away from everything. The park offers a museum, trails, kayak rentals and more.

The multi-purpose hike connects to the Dauset Nature Center trails and is worth taking the extra mile or so, at least, to go visit the nature center. The hike is rated as quite hard on All Trails and similar apps but, in reality, is fine for most levels. I am recovering from a back injury and this was my first 5+ mile hike in years. It was more than manageable.

One downside of the parks location is that you are close to Jackson and neighboring towns. There were some noises (e.g. loud cars) that could be heard from our site at night. It wasn't constant or overly intrusive. The main complaint was that other humans in the park seemed to not have consideration for their camping neighbors and enjoyed driving golf carts around while playing music at full volume. That can happen anywhere though and maybe shouldn't be a 'negative' for the park.

The park is well kept, comfort stations are fine and staff very friendly and helpful.

      No waterfront… no problem

We really enjoyed our stay at Georgia Veterans Memorial SP. we stayed in site 72 on Camping area #3. It faced the woods with a walking path. It was very private with the exception of the occasional hiker. So it was very nice to feel so secluded.

close to Rigby's and the aviation museum

Stayed here mostly to visit Rigby's and the aviation museum.  My girlfriend loved the horses - different ones are coming and going frequently.  My 6 year old had a great time with the other kids and pond and playground.  Great facilities and staff.

Water views are the best !

Spot #30 has a Water view and is less expensive than a site on the water. So if you bring a boat you can pull it up on shore by your site. Very nice camp ground, park, marina, golf and military museum. #30 is a long pull thru site with water and electric. Well worth the visit.

      Perfect pull off spot

We had pull thru site with full hookups. Everything worked and site was level. We made reservations and arrived after staff was gone. There was a detailed map and directions to get to our site. Worked great as a stopover to our final destination.

      Georgia Veterans State Park

Very nice and worth and extended stay

We stopped here on our way south to Florida out of curiosity.  Earlier in the year, we had been in Cordele to ride the SAM Railway which was based next to the park and had decided to stop on our way back through and check out the campground.  The GVSP is well maintained with alot of open space, lake access and a historical museum honoring Georgia Veterans.  The camping area is spacious with back in and pull through sites.  The roadways were narrow and paved with the sites being gravel and level in most cases.  Sites along the lakefront are a bit more expensive but the lake can be viewed from any site.  Shower houses are cleaned daily by camp hosts and are well maintained.  We were advised by another camper that sites fill up quickly on weekends but are usually available during the week.  We only spent 2 nights (on a whim) but will return for a longer stay in the future.  A great area for biking, fishing and boating.

      Quick Visit

We just stopped in for a quick one night visit on our travel north. Check in was quick and easy. Sites are not large but adequate, cute playground and a double dump station available. There is very little cell phone service- AT&T has none.

      Indian Springs State Park

      Easy, Quiet campsite.

We visited this campground April 23rd and stayed for 2 nights. Campground is very clean and peaceful. We dragged our feet on booking so ended up with limited sites to choose from. Site 49, still a great site just not as private as some of the sites on roundabouts.

Site 49 has a slightly mild downhill walk about 30 yards to get to the edge of the water. Not really an area you would jump in and swim at though, stagnant water in the corner. We used it for setting up our hammocks and used it for the view of the lake.

There is also a small old town right outside the campground with a small ice cream place / museum and old market with minimum things in a pinch.

There was also another campsite within 10-15 minutes of Indian Springs and they had a trail you could walk along the waterfalls and river.

      Gun fire inside park

Stayed several nights in RV site. Bath house had only one toilet due to the other being out of order. Bathroom was not clean. Person drive through the park firing a gun at 4 am and the police were called. Also appeared to be done "full time residents" with dog that barked all night.

      High Falls State Park

      Beautiful

The park is gorgeous and well maintained. It’s a little tight in a place or two but we’re pulling a 40’ fifth wheel and had no problems. We stayed in spot 71 which was a pull through with large lot that was really nice. Fire pit, picnic table and grill as well. I’m uploading a set of maps. You definitely need them as the sites are marked nicely but the areas are not and it’s very confusing. Also if you use maps on a device make sure you add campground because there are a few other places you don’t want to go pulling a rig since the campground is in a state park. Great for hiking, biking, fishing etc. Plain on zero internet or cell coverage. I’m all about the camping adventure but I like to be able to contact the kids if needed. Overall great place.

Good bathrooms , wonderful staff, kids enjoyed the playground. Site 56 is extremely tilted and very hard to level out. Also 57 and up is a lot of the same but I believe ours is the worst

We stayed at High Falls and absolutely enjoyed every moment of it. The bathhouses and laundry is easily accessible. Hot showers. A nice sensory playground right across from site 24 and next to the bathhouse. Awesome trails, and beautiful scenery. Quiet. Will definitely go back.

      Nice for one night stay

It’s a decent park to stay for one night. You can feed some goats and there’s a playground that’s really old and a little dangerous. The staff is very friendly and accommodating.

      High falls

We stayed on the lake loop site 100. Sites are smaller on this loop and some on a grade. The dump station is across the road at the river camp loop. Lake loop sites are closer to falls and trail heads but the river camp sites are nicer IMO. Went to a local restaurant called Yahola Creek. It was amazing. Food and ambiance was excellent. Also went to local bbq place The Blind Pig which was excellent also. There is a dollar general store very close. Some good trails at the park.

      High Falls State Park

      Quick but decent stay

The entrance to the campground is a little odd and narrow. I have a 25 ft RV and I'm not sure how longer RVs are able to navigate getting into the campground. I stayed here for one night in early April at River Camping Area site# 48. We got here late at night so we didn't have time to explore the campground much since it was raining hard the next day. Some of the sites around me had standing water because of the hard rain. We took a short walk before it started raining and the campground seemed pleasant overall.

      Nice campground

High Falls is a great campground. They have 2 sections. One by water is where we were. Nice pull thru site with shade. We were site 82, and has gravel. We rode our bikes to the other side, to see the falls. Very beautiful. Serene listening to it. Restrooms clean and park well maintained. B

      High Falls State Park

      River Side Campground

We found this campground on the road from MN to FL and overall enjoyed the one night.  We bought wood at a small local store on the road going into site as they were closed by the time we rolled in.  there's a gate code they called us with and that was easy - we camped on the river side and did not explore the other side.  Our site was along the river on the map, but in reality you don't really see the river much due to vegetation.  There was a lot of poison ivy along the edges of our site too.  We have a 21' camper van so it was plenty big for us and easy to get into.  The bathrooms were about a 5-6 minute walk up a slight hill, past a playground being put together.  The shower was nice, although there was only 1 in working order when we were there.  We did not explore very much except to drive to the falls on our way out the next morning - we were putting a lot of miles on each day, and I think this would be a great place to try again.  We did not have phone/internet service (Verizon), which was ok for one night.

      High Falls State Park

Very Nice Park on the river side

2nd trip to High Falls on river side. This side is accessed via gate code 24/7.

Site 5 is one of the 1st few on the left as you enter the camping area. So you do get a fair amount of traffic, but it's not bothersome and we enjoy people watching.  The bath house is across the street and up a hill so keep that in mind if you have some mobility issues, though it's not a crazy bad hill.

The site has a good distance between the camper and it's "passenger" side so it's like not having a neighbor on that side. The river isn't visible from the site, but it's a couple hundred feet through the woods via a path.  Entire site was very level and didn't take much to level the trailer. Very well shaded.

Cell phone internet is slim if at all even on Verizon. T-Mobile had trouble getting texts from this area.

Campground is well kept.  They were beginning to assemble new playground equipment back in April of '22.

Dollar General is right outside the gate.

State park offers boat, kayak, and paddle board rentals at the lake side.

Note about the lake side sites: They are all at right angle drives with a small drainage ditch flanking the driveway. Plus are short sites.  I would imagine it would be very tough to get my short 22' trailer in there. We drover over and I was glad we didn't stay on that side.

      Beautiful scenery

This park is very nice. Lots of hills, which were not used to. Our site was close to a really clean bathhouse. Our site was a pull thru, which is always nice! Site had really nice space. We did lose power for 15 hours and water for a few hours one night. Then two days later, we lost power again for three hours. Not ideal when it’s pushing 95°. We can now say we’ve boondocked. The big falls trail was closed for renovation so we couldn’t walk out on it. We were able to see it from another trail.
