Sandhill crane calls echo across the valley at this hike-in backcountry site along Slough Creek, requiring a 4.3-mile trek plus an additional 0.6-mile spur trail to reach. The campsite sits in a meadowed valley surrounded by steep mountains, offering multiple flat tent spots and a bear-proof food locker alongside the traditional hanging pole. A rock fire ring with log seating provides a gathering spot, with abundant deadfall wood scattered throughout the area for fuel.
The site attracts anglers to the nearby creek, though the campsite remains hidden from fishing activity. Campers need to carry water containers for fire suppression, as the creek sits roughly 50 yards away. Wildlife sightings include bison, black bears, foxes, and various bird species along the trail system, making this one of several dispersed sites near Yellowstone National Park accessible to backpackers.
