      High Cliff State Park Campground

Close to town but surrounded by nature.

This is a state run campground that provides plenty of hiking, biking and horse riding trails. There is also access to Lake Winnebago for boating and swimming. The camp sites are all either partially or fully shaded with a good amount of privacy for each site. Plenty or pit toilets are provided and there are also plumbed toilets and showers available on the campground.

This campground is perfect for a weekend getaway or for those families just starting out. It is close enough to town to be able to run in and get forgotten items. There are plenty of playground equipment for kids to run and climb on. If you are looking for a rustic get away this may not be exactly what you are looking for but it is a great spot to get out of the city for a day or two.

      Hartman Creek State Park Campground

      Beautiful

We camped in the family campground with our 17 foot Casita travel trailer. Large private site surrounded by trees, with several options for positioning the trailer. The nearby chain of small lakes connected by narrows is ideal for kayaking. Lots of level paved roads for cycling, and wooded trails for hiking. Clean restrooms with showers.

      High Cliff State Park Campground

      Spacious and close to trails

This was my first time camping in a Wisconsin state park and I thought it was great! Our site backed up to a trail along the cliff which was awesome for a family that loves to hike. I felt for a state park most of the sites were spacious, ours was particularly because we had no site behind us. Shower house was clean. Will be back!

      High Cliff State Park Campground

So much to do for everyone

No matter what your skill level you can find a trail here from easy to challenging to hike or bike.  There is a beach, a marina, Lake Winnebago, horse trails, hiking, biking and pet beach and picnic area.  The park is very clean and pretty.  There is a playground, several vault toilet areas spread around and a shower house.   Some sites have electric and there is a dump station and water fill up.

Both AT &T and Verizon provided good service and the ability to stream.  Spaces are large and have many  trees for shade and privacy.

      High Cliff State Park Campground

      Comfortable camping, lots to do

Another spacious Wisconsin State Park site. #2 is level and listed as full shade but we had enough sun to recharge our Jackery everyday. It helps that it was blue skies each day! All sites were rented for the weekend and there were just a few no-shows. Even full there wasn’t enough noise to mention. We were near the entrance and enjoyed watching all the cars and campers coming and going. The shower house was fine, a very short walk for us. The camp host was friendly and quick to clean sites. There’s single stream recycling at the dump station and they take glass! Cell reception was good enough (Visible) There’s much to do in the park and in the area. We hiked, fished, golfed, shopped and ate well from what we find. I recommend the Appleton Farmers’ Market, Dick’s Family Foods in Sherwood Nieman’s Southside Market in Appleton.

      High Cliff State Park Campground

      Great Views Great Hiking

A beautiful park with lots of history! The park entrance sits just after the High Cliff golf course and follows the east side of Lake Winnebago, offering beautiful views of the Fox Valley area. This park features many hiking and biking trails, none of which are over-exhilarating but are enough for everyone at all levels. Climbing spectacular cliff formations or walking through the many cliff crevices is an experience everyone will remember. This park features an awesome General Store with souvenirs and lots of information about the park's history. It can be a busy park full of day walkers, so it can seem busier than it is. This is a popular park and can get busy, but it never seems crowded unless there is a wedding reception which typically is held toward the north end by the observation tower. There is High Cliff Restaurant, as well as a pizza, sandwich, and ice cream shop with mini-golf toward the park entrance. If you have the opportunity to visit this park during the month of October, this park offers an awesome trick or treat weekend which the campground woods is transformed into a spooky but fun campground. Check the parks web page for the exact weekend. Kids trick or treat going campsite to campsite! This is a popular event and is super busy but safe and fun for all ages! The campers go all out to have the best displays and experience! The event is open to the public and campers. If you plan on camping during the October weekend book early by the State of Wisconsin DNR website. As far as amenities, there is firewood available for purchase at the park, it offers pit toilets as well as flush toilets and showers. there are numerous gas stations and a grocery store a couple minutes outside the park. There is also a large splash pad park a couple minutes outside the park during the hot summer months.

      High Cliff State Park Campground

      Great Views!

It was a bit chilly to enjoy the lake unfortunately, but the hiking is amazing. There are great rock outcrops for bouldering and exploring. All over just beautiful. Definitely one of my favorites in Wisconsin!!

    What to do

Trail riding opportunities: Riders at Wild West Campground & Corral appreciate the calm environment for horses and humans alike. "Being able to watch the horses was very calming. We would recommend this place to others and we would go back," notes camper Dave S.

Water recreation access: At Hartman Creek State Park Campground, visitors can enjoy non-motorized water activities. "Hartman Creek is a nice small lake, with no wake. There is now a rental building available with kayaks, paddle boats, SUP, etc. to rent. We rented kayaks for an hour at a very reasonable price," shares Jen E.

Hiking explorations: The terrain surrounding High Cliff State Park Campground provides varied trail experiences. "Hike the trails to see pieces of Wisconsin history throughout. Some trails on the Ridgeline offer vista views and moderate inclines that add to the adventure," explains Sam F.

    What campers like

Natural surroundings: The wooded settings create peaceful camping environments. "Our site was larger, almost fully shaded under a mix of coniferous and deciduous trees," reports Jimmy P. about Hartman Creek State Park.

Water features: Lakes and rivers add recreational value to equestrian camping near Wautoma. "The lake was a smaller lake, but nice for swimming. They do a great job of keeping the beach and swimming area clean," notes Jimmy P.

Historical elements: Embarrass River Campground and ATV Park offers riverside camping with rustic appeal. "My favorite sites are on the river as its relaxing and comforting listening to the fast moving stream especially at night," shares Matthew J.

    What you should know

Seasonal operation: Most equine campgrounds near Wautoma operate from spring through fall due to Wisconsin's cold winters. First week or two of may is a safe bet, but no promises," cautions Brandl B.

Site variations: Campsite quality and privacy can differ significantly even within a single facility. At Lakeside Fire Campground & Waterpark, you'll find "more comfortable sized sites than we expected considering what we typically look for," according to Glenn T.

Playground availability: Some horse-friendly campgrounds include play equipment for children. "There are two playgrounds for the kids as well," notes Kaylyn C.

    Tips from RVers

Dump station access: Sanitary facilities exist at major campgrounds. "The campsite was clean. Bathrooms were clean and well taken care of, staff friendly and helpful," shares Karyn S.

Site sizing for horse trailers: When bringing horses, ensure your site accommodates both living quarters and horse trailer. "We check in they were nice but everything in the store looks like it's from the dollar store," notes Stephanie M. about facility amenities.
