Best Cabin Camping near Stone Lake, WI

Cabins near Stone Lake offer a range of accommodations from rustic to fully furnished options. Hayward KOA provides cabin rentals with electricity and basic furnishings, while Lake Chippewa Campground features cabins with lake views and proximity to water activities. Most locations include fire rings and picnic tables outside each cabin. Roam Base Camp offers unique cabin designs that connect directly to nearby trail systems. Nelson Lake Lodge and Reel Livin Resort provide more upscale cabin options with concrete pads and patios for extended stays.

Rustic and deluxe cabins are both available, depending on the location. Most properties require minimum stays during peak summer months, with many operating on Saturday-to-Saturday reservation schedules. Pet policies vary by location, with most allowing leashed pets for an additional fee. Lake Chippewa Campground and Hayward KOA remain open from May through October, while some smaller operations like Camp Namekagon operate from mid-April through mid-October. A visitor to Reel Livin described it as "well maintained and very peaceful" with cabins that offer good access to fishing and boating on Lost Land Lake.

Most cabins include beds but require visitors to bring their own linens, towels, and toiletries. Basic kitchenette setups typically include refrigerators and microwaves, though cooking facilities vary widely between properties. Several campgrounds, including Hayward KOA and Lake Chippewa, maintain on-site stores for basic provisions and forgotten items. Firewood is available for purchase at most locations, with fire rings provided at cabin sites. Drinking water access points are standard at all cabin locations, though water hookups inside cabins are not universal. Visitors staying at more remote cabins should bring all necessary supplies, as grocery options become limited farther from Hayward.

Paint Rock Springs Campground — St. Croix State Park

    No service

Felt nice to spend a weekend without cell service about an hour away from home. Forgot to take my usual photos and video of the site all set up but had a few random to share. Nice campground. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring. There are flush toilets and showers and the office has a store for any last minute needs.

    North View Campground

    Serene Serenity

Pet friendly and the perfect get away. Relaxing, quiet and surrounded by nature. We’re lucky enough to plan ahead and book for the fall colors. Highly recommended for those who respect nature, it’s beauty and the silence they encompass.

    Roam Base Camp

Rustic camping in the middle of Seeley Pass

Rustic campsites with easy access to the Seeley Pass trail candy. Lots of mosquitoes- so many it was hard to be outside and enjoy a fire at all, but also an untypical rainy weekend. Very quiet area in the middle of the Northwoods. Small sites with long grass around all the sides, which makes for a fair amount of ticks. If trail access was all we wanted, I’d give it 5 stars. On a rainy weekend, it wasn’t ideal. Must pay for showers.

    Lake Chippewa Campground

    Still One of Our Favs

As we arrived on a Saturday around 1:45 PM, there was quite the line of RVs checking in as most people come in for a week on Saturdays. As we have been here multiple times, we knew not to line up down the narrow road shoot that’s adjacent to the lodge where you check in but stay on the main road. They had plenty of staff on duty, so check-in was fairly quick, and we headed to site 457, which was an easy back-in with FHUs. We were pleasantly surprised we didn’t get site 456 right on the road. When we make a reservation for this campground(CG), you can only pick an area, not a specific site, for most of the sites. This was the first time we’d stayed in this area of mixed short-term and seasonal sites. The FHU facilities were placed in the middle of the gravel-grass site with a picnic table and fire pit. We were able to put out our back patio and have plenty of space to park our F450. There are a lot of mature trees in this park, so satellite is going to be iffy depending on the site. We were able to get an okay shot to the north for Starlink but no chance for the southern sky. You can opt to pay for the park Wi-Fi. The water pressure is good, and we had two bars on Verizon. The staff at the lodge/office is top-notch. We found out that this year’s“watch out” was kids riding electric bikes full out versus underage golf cart drivers of last year, so“watch out” in either case. The CG has been trying to police the lack of parental oversight, but this first-rate CG attacks a lot of families. Though there’s no formal dog park, there are plenty of areas to walk your dog, including the trail up and around the newer primitive camping area. Lake Chip is one of our favs, and we will continue to return.

    Lake Chippewa Campground

    Lake Chip Continues to Please

Our RV GPS wanted to take us through Hayward city central to the campground (CG), which was fine. However, as this was our fourth time staying at Lake Chippewa Campground, we stayed on Hwy 77 past the Walmart to hook up on Hwy 63 at the casino to avoid traffic and stoplights in Hayward. We arrived with no issues and during check-in we were delighted to find out we had other site options than the pull throughs for our 12 night stay. We had changed our reservations to an earlier date, and the only open sites at the time were pull throughs, which are not bad. However, there are much better sites in this CG. We were provided a map of available sites and a golf cart to check out sites. As we know this CG well, it was a no brainer for us to chose back-in site 460 with FHUs. The regulars who normally stay in this site had gotten an opening in one of the CG's permanent site areas. We happily proceeded to our site and had no problems backing in. The hook ups are in the middle of this long pad. Water pressure was good at about 50 psi. We did not opt for their Wifi, which you have pay for and later found out it doesn't work in this area anyway. We got 1 bar on Verizon and the signal was basically useless. There are a lot of mature trees in this CG and in this site in particular. We put our Starlink on the roof and we were able to get a usable signal. We would rather have a nice site with privacy than wifi or a phone signal. This site sits well off the road and has a large back yard area. Lake Chip is a large private CG but has a state park feel. They have lots of amenities such site side trash pickup, laundry, boat/kayak rentals, golf cart rentals, propane, and the list goes on. Eat at Powell’s on Round Lake about 15 minutes away on Co Hwy C towards Hayward. Good food and service.

    Hayward KOA

    Fun Filled KOA

    Fall Colors!

Really enjoyed this place! It’s connected to miles of trails for multiple uses like mountain biking, hiking, running, snow shoeing, cross country skiing, and winter fat biking. Staff is very polite and helpful. Cabins are a nice size for parties of 6, and sites are somewhat private. Rustic campground with flush toilet, and personal enclosed shower rooms. Top O’ the Morn Resort & Campground

    Great Spot to Camp

Found this gem of a campground while passing thru this area.

Nice quiet campground. This campground seemed to be mostly filled with RVs. We were tent camping and they had a well shaded, very clean and quiet area for us.

The owners were quick to return our phone call when trying to make a reservation.

    Nelson Lake Lodge

    Great Stay among Seasonal Campers

Our family wanted a couple of nights to rest closer to home before returning home after a great week long plus trip to the U.P. of Michigan. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. Our site was in a great location in the park and we were surrounded by some very friendly seasonal RV'ers. The grounds were very well maintained and they hosts really went out of their way to welcome us and help us get in and settled into our site. There is easy water access to Nelson and a short drive in Hayward WI.

The site was a little tight getting into with our 35' TT because of the approach. But we made it in with some direction from the campground host, and on lookers. Nothing like some good old fashion parking peer pressure.; )

The pad was concrete and level, included a nice patio, a picnic table, some nice planters and well maintained  grass on the driver's side of our rig. We had full hookups. The water spigot was shared with the site behind us but there was already a "y" connection installed. Good water pressure. Had a little trouble getting our sewer hose to fit tightly but I tried something new and flipped the sewer donut upside down and was able to get a tight seal.

AT&T and Verizon signals were a little weak but could make phone calls (AT&T) and email with my Verizon hotspot for email.

Had a good time walking the grounds, looking at the lake from the docks and watching the painted turtles who were laying their eggs along the campground's beach. The other seasonal rv's were very friendly and seemed to be having a good time gathering together in the evenings.

We would stay here again and even consider staying for a longer period of time as well in the future.

Guide to Stone Lake

Cabin rentals near Stone Lake, Wisconsin provide direct access to the area's extensive trail systems and waterways. Located in northwestern Wisconsin, this region features over 900 lakes within a 30-mile radius, with many cabin accommodations positioned along shorelines or within easy reach of water activities. Summer temperatures typically range from 55-80°F, while winter months see temperatures dropping below freezing, making seasonal planning essential for cabin stays.

What to do

Tubing adventures: Log Cabin Resort and Campground offers river tubing services where staff "will bring you up the river to float down and land on their nice sand beach," as visitor Drew G. notes. Water tubes can be rented on-site during summer months.

Mountain biking access: Trails connect directly to cabins at Roam Base Camp, giving riders immediate access to the CAMBA trail system. One visitor explains, "CAMBA mtn bike trails are right next to camp so it makes it very easy to hook on and go! Both Hayward and Cable were close by with some very clear lakes to go paddle!"

Lake fishing: At Lake Chippewa Campground, guests can rent pontoon boats to explore the lake's islands. As one visitor shared, "We rented a pontoon for the day and beached it on one of the many islands the lake has." Fishing licenses are required and can be purchased in nearby Hayward.

What campers like

Winter activities: Cabins at Roam Base Camp are designed for year-round use. According to Matthew H., "It's connected to miles of trails for multiple uses like mountain biking, hiking, running, snow shoeing, cross country skiing, and winter fat biking." On-site saunas provide post-trail relaxation during colder months.

Family entertainment: Hayward KOA offers numerous amenities beyond basic cabin accommodations. One visitor highlighted the range of activities: "Large 9ft heated pool, mini golf, large playground, horse shoes, volleyball, nice size water slide, covered stage for music, ice cream shop, huge jump pillow, and much more."

Group accommodations: Many properties offer clustered cabin arrangements for family reunions. A visitor to Lake Chippewa Campground explains, "The group sites with water access and full hook-ups can't be beat. Plenty of space for our 4 RVs of various sizes plus tents/easy ups." Reservations for group sites typically need to be made 6-12 months in advance.

What you should know

Booking competition: Securing cabin reservations requires advance planning. A Lake Chippewa visitor noted, "They start their booking for the year on January 1st. We called all day long (4500 times not kidding) and finally got a spot." Many properties release their summer cabin calendars in January.

Wi-Fi limitations: Internet access varies significantly between properties. At Lake Chippewa Campground, "We did not opt for their Wifi, which you have to pay for and later found out it doesn't work in this area anyway." Cell reception can also be spotty, particularly in more remote cabin locations.

Rustic conditions: Some cabins near Stone Lake maintain a more primitive experience. A Roam Base Camp visitor described it as a "Rustic campground with flush toilet, and personal enclosed shower rooms." Be prepared for potential insects, as one camper noted "Lots of mosquitoes—so many it was hard to be outside and enjoy a fire at all."

Tips for camping with families

Look for themed weekends: Several properties organize special events for children. A Hayward KOA visitor mentioned, "They also have themed weekends for the kids, and plenty of activities!" These events typically run from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

Consider shower facilities: When booking camping cabins with children, check bathroom proximity. As one visitor to Hayward KOA noted, "Bathrooms are centrally located, but I was surprised how few stalls there were in the men's bathroom. There were 2 in the facility that served at least 60 sites."

Check water access: Reel Livin Resort and Campground offers family-friendly lake activities with "Cheap boat and pontoon rental, very friendly and kind staff." The shallow entry points at many cabin properties make swimming safer for younger children.

Tips from RVers

Site dimensions: Many cabins share property with RV sites that have size limitations. A Hayward KOA visitor warned, "There are a lot of trees that make it very challenging for larger rigs. There are a handful of sites that would be easy to access, I recommend calling first. We have a 43ft 5th wheel."

Full hookup availability: Nelson Lake Lodge offers cabins alongside premium RV sites. One visitor described, "The pad was concrete and level, included a nice patio, a picnic table, some nice planters and well maintained grass on the driver's side of our rig. We had full hookups."

RV storage options: For those bringing boats alongside RVs, Reel Livin Resort offers cabin stays with boat docking. As Lynn M. shared, "Lost Land Lake offers good fishing and boating. We stayed in camp site 5. It was a large, pull through site. No issue parking our 40' DP and toad."
