    Copper Falls State Park Campground

    Waterfalls and great sites

This campground has well spaced sites with electric.   There are two campgrounds, north and south.   The north has water spigots to fill your RV or water bottles and two toilet buildings.   The south has a dump station and water fill.

There is a playground, ballfield, concession stand and lots of picnic areas.

The sites are tucked in the trees for privacy and all have a picnic table and fire ring.   There is also a lake and kayaks available to rent.  There  is a town less than 5 miles away and you can find groceries and gas.

    Hi-Pines Campground

Wide open space great if you have kids!

This campground is wide and very open. We arrived on a Sunday and the weekend crowd had cleared out, so nice and quiet. One thing is— do not plan on doing laundry on a Monday. The personnel use all the machines to wash linens and towels from the cabins after folks check out. One dryer did not heat very well. The entry to the laundry is a step up and I stubbed my toe because the threshold was not secured.

Great view, Cabins run down and Beach was a mess

We have been coming here for a long time. It is under new management and we thought things would get better. While we were here other guests trashed the beach and had dogs running and using the bathroom throughout the campsite. The rules for dogs were to keep them on leashes and clean up after them. These rules were not being followed which caused the beach, in the past is lovely, but with the dogs using it as a bathroom the beach smelt like poop. Nobody in our week of staying cleaned up after them so we needed to go somewhere else to swim. If your place is pet friendly please make sure to keep up with your own rules. The cabins are run down but showers are hot and the utilities are still able to be used

    Great Views and Quiet Camping

8/26-9/1/22- Free camping! There are vault toilets and hand-pump well drinking water in several places, and picnic tables and fire pits at each camp site. The sites are well maintained, clean, and reasonably flat. I tried self registering, but there was nowhere to sign-in. About 11Am the next morning, someone came by to register us. 2-bars Verizon 5G, and 2-bars AT&T 4G.

We rolled in about 10pm and drove through the western loop sites 1-22, pulled into the first pull-through site(W5) that we could easily get our 34’ fifth wheel into and went to sleep. In the morning, I walked the loop and found several others that we could fit(now that it was light out), and we moved over one site to W6. Site W21 has a lake view and a large loop in front of this back-in site that would be super easy to navigate for a big rig. Sites 11 and 12 were really close together but had a good views of the lake as well. Later, we drove over to the east camp site that all seemed to have lake views, and sites E12 and E13 are surrounded on 3 sides by water, a turn-around loop, and more sunlight for solar powered rigs. I didn’t think to check cell signal while there.

The towns of Watersmeet and Conover had the cheapest diesel fuel. The Wild Turkey Bar& Grill in Conover, WI had fabulous smoked meats, and there is a great little hardware store in Conover as well.

    Bond Falls Campground

    Secluded campsites on the water

There are about 20 campsites and a handful on the water. The sites are free for up to a total of 14 days which is really nice. We stayed at a site that was up the hill from the water. Each site has a fire pit and a picnic table and allowed for our 10 person tent. There are a few port-a-potty’s scattered throughout the campground, but no shower site. There are a few rules regarding the sites, but you can check in with the park ranger for all the details. This was our first time camping here and I would defiantly go back.

    Indian Shores

Indian Shores - a worthy desination in Wisconsin’s Northwoods

This is a larger campground with a good mix of seasonal and weekend campsites. The majority of the weekend campsites are located near the prime activity locations; the pool, playground and lake areas. There are full sun and full shade sites available. The Shady sites are amongst the evergreens, so they tend to be sandier. The full sun sites are all grass. All of the sites have a gravel pad to park on; the exception to this are the lakeside sites which are concrete pads. There is a camp store and a good sized bar & grill. The weekend we were here it rained non-stop, so we did not get to use any of the available canoe/kayak/fishing boat/pontoon boat rentals. We did make ample use of the mini-golf, playground, and heated swimming pool though. The pool was warm enough that even the non-stop rain did not cool it down enough to be uncomfortable. The seasonal campers I met and talked with were all friendly and did not have the “why are you here” attitude I occasionally come across when staying at seasonal heavy resorts. I did see several people fishing in the rain and pulling keepers out of the lake to be cleaned and cooked. They were fishing from the docks. Our kids are 7 & 10 and they were never bored. There were a couple trails within the campground that were good for nature hikes. If it were a little closer to home, this campground would be on the shortlist of places to have a seasonal site at.

Guide to Lac du Flambeau

Cabins near Lac du Flambeau offer year-round access to the Northwoods region where average summer temperatures reach 78°F and winter lows can dip to 5°F. The surrounding Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest creates a unique ecosystem with mixed hardwood forests and over 200 lakes within a 25-mile radius. Many cabin rentals in the area serve as base camps for exploring nearby Minocqua and Eagle River.

What to do

Waterfall hunting: 20-minute drive to Bond Falls Campground where "best free campground... beautiful lake full of fish. Amazing waterfall. Clean campground with toilet and hand pump for water" according to Eric G. The accessible pathways make this suitable for all mobility levels.

Lake fishing: Multiple species available at Comfort Cove Resort on Lake Solberg where visitors mention "the lake location is perfect with both sunsets and coves." Many cabins provide direct lake access with boat rentals available at daily or weekly rates.

Winter sports: December-March at Copper Falls State Park Campground offers snowshoeing and cross-country skiing on designated trails. "This park is absolutely gorgeous with the waterfalls and awesome views!!! Great campsites and great trails!!" reports Holly M. The park maintains several cabin options that remain open during winter months.

What campers like

Privacy between sites: Indian Shores offers a mix of seasonal and weekend campsites. Mike W. shares detailed observations: "The weekend campsites are located near the prime activity locations; the pool, playground and lake areas. There are full sun and full shade sites available. The Shady sites are amongst the evergreens, so they tend to be sandier."

Clean facilities: Multiple cabin locations maintain well-kept bathhouses with regular maintenance schedules. At Patricia Lake Campground, Rick G. notes: "Sites are relatively spaced apart for a private campground and offer FHU's for those needing to stay a night or two to dump tanks, etc. A bit pricey, but if you spend most of your time boondocking it's a good fit."

Four-season options: Several cabin rentals remain open year-round with heating systems for winter visits. Amanda C. recommends Indian Shores saying, "This is one of our favorite campgrounds. It's big and spacious and on the most beautiful clear lake. Good fishing and boating/skiing. Minoqua is easily accessible."

What you should know

Seasonal availability varies: Most cabin rental facilities have limited winter operations. At Presque Isle - Porcupine Mountains State Park, C N. observed: "Cell service was really spotty (can be a good thing when camping), and I wasn't able to pick up a lot of radio stations either. Still nice to enjoy the quiet dark skies."

Bug protection essential: Spring and early summer months bring significant insect activity. Nathan W. cautions about Bond Falls: "Mosquitoes and flies were so bad that our dogs faces were getting bloody and bug spray and a fire did nothing for us."

Reservation timelines: During peak season (June-August), cabin rentals often book 6-9 months in advance. For more immediate availability, consider mid-week stays or shoulder seasons of May and September when temperatures remain moderate and crowds diminish.

Tips for camping with families

Accessible activities: Chain O'Lakes Campground provides family-oriented amenities. Nova O. notes: "Lovely campground near the lakes. Tons of lake activities like renting boats to fish (like we did). Our campground was next to nice bathrooms and a sand volleyball court."

Educational opportunities: Several campgrounds offer junior ranger programs or nature talks during summer months. Bond Falls features interpretive signage about local ecology and history suitable for school-age children.

Swimming options: Natural lake beaches versus pool access varies by location. Hi-Pines Campground receives praise for its water features as Amanda C. mentions: "This campground is very clean and nice with tons of things to do! The sites are nice and big and the pond has inflatables that are very fun."

Tips from RVers

Site selection considerations: Look for cabins with nearby full-hookup sites for traveling companions with RVs. At Lake Gogebic State Park Campground, Alissa B. shares: "A lot of the sites are kinda uneven, and some are grass, some are sandy... definitely do your research before you pick a site. No pull through sites, only back in."

Storage options: Few cabin facilities offer secure RV storage for extended stays. Most permit temporary parking of towed vehicles at designated areas within the campground for daily outings.
