Granite Lake Dispersed Camping Area

The rocky, 4x4-only access road to Granite Lake climbs steadily through Snoqualmie National Forest, requiring high clearance and traction tires to navigate the stone gardens and steep grades. This dispersed camping area sits directly on the shoreline of a small alpine lake, with approximately five lakeside sites available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Campers find crystal-clear water suitable for swimming or launching small watercraft, though temperatures remain cold even in summer months. The compact nature of the area means weekend crowds can fill all available spots quickly, despite the challenging road conditions. SpentBrassOffroad B. notes "it looks like it would be a very popular place on the weekends" after encountering seven vehicles heading up on a Saturday morning. Two picnic tables serve the entire area, and no water or electrical hookups are available.

The remote location provides complete separation from cell service, with the nearest towers approximately two hours away by vehicle. Early season visitors should pack chainsaws for potential tree removal, as winter storms regularly block the access route. Snow persists on the ground through mid-June at this elevation, with overnight temperatures dropping into the low 30s even in summer. The site works best for self-sufficient campers comfortable with primitive conditions and challenging vehicle access.

Campers regularly cited the stunning lakeside setting with crystal clear water and waterfront sites. Many visitors reported weekend crowding at this small 5-site area that fills quickly on a first-come basis.

Awesome Spot

Found this spot listed on Dyrt, and it did not disappoint. Went mid-June, and there was still snow on the ground and I woke up to low 30 temps and a winter mix falling from the sky. The water was crystal clear, and the site was right on the water with a little boat push off or if you wanted to walk in and swim. I went during the week and left out Saturday morning and passed about 7 trucks heading up to the site. It looks like it would be a very popular place on the weekends. It will require a 4x4, especially after rains, as it's a climb the entire way up over some decent rock gardens. If going up right after the winter bring a chain saw with you as the parks department cleared some previously, I still had to cut 2 more trees that had fallen across the road. All and all it was a beautiful site but be prepared since its a small site it may be full and the hill climb might be for nothing.

Primitive - no water/restrooms/rough road

I made it up to the lake in July.  There were too many ppl for the small campground on this weekend.  Surprised because the road was very rough and there is no water/electricity and there are only two picnic tables.  Beautiful!!!  It's just very out of the way and it's first come first serve and you never know when there will be too many ppl.  There are only 5 sites on the lake.  Good luck getting a camping site because it's a long road back out if the campground is full.

As dispersed as it gets

Absolutely beautiful area. Plenty of campsites around the small lake that are right up next to the water, but to get the good spots, It's first come first serve. The water is pretty cold and crystal clear when we were up there at the beginning of June.

Things to expect:

You're about two hours away from any cell service.

The road to get up is all rocks and off-road going up a mountain. 4x4 with traction tires is a must. Kit up. Have a satellite phone, and expect to drive through snow up there at the beginning of June.

Granite Lake

Lakeside camping here was wonderful. I got a great nights sleep in the hammock as you can see haha. Lots of room for a big group of campers, just make sure to pick up trash before you go because it was pretty littered.

Frequently Asked Questions

What amenities and facilities are available at Granite Lake Dispersed Camping Area?

Granite Lake Dispersed Camping Area offers very minimal amenities consistent with primitive camping. There are only two picnic tables in the entire area, and no water or electricity is available. The campground doesn't provide trash service, so visitors must pack out all waste. There are no restroom facilities, showers, or potable water. The main draw is the beautiful lakeside setting with crystal clear water. Come prepared with all necessary supplies including drinking water.

Is Granite Lake Dispersed Camping Area suitable for RVs and large vehicles?

Granite Lake Dispersed Camping Area is not ideal for RVs and large vehicles. The access road is very rough, which makes navigation challenging for larger rigs. The campground is relatively small with limited space for maneuvering and parking large vehicles. Most sites are better suited for tents, hammocks, and possibly small trailers. If you plan to bring an RV, consider smaller models and be prepared for difficult road conditions getting to the lake.

Where is Granite Lake Dispersed Camping Area located in Washington?

Granite Lake Dispersed Camping Area is located in a remote area of Washington. It's situated around a small alpine lake in what appears to be mountainous terrain. The location is somewhat out of the way and requires traveling on rough roads to access. While the exact coordinates aren't specified, it's in a region that experiences alpine conditions, with snow possible even in June. The remote setting contributes to its pristine beauty and crystal-clear waters.

What are the best spots for dispersed camping near Granite Lake?

The best camping spots at Granite Lake are those directly adjacent to the water. These lakeside sites offer beautiful views and easy water access, perfect for swimming or small boats. Since it's first-come, first-served, arriving early is essential to secure these premium spots, especially on weekends when the area can become crowded despite its remote location. Look for established sites that are level and have cleared areas for tents. Some spots even include small boat push-off areas for water access.

Do I need a recreation pass to camp at Granite Lake Dispersed Camping Area?

While specific pass information isn't detailed, most dispersed camping areas in Washington on public lands require either a Northwest Forest Pass, Discover Pass, or America the Beautiful Pass depending on the managing agency. Given the primitive nature of Granite Lake Dispersed Camping Area, it's likely free to camp, but a recreation pass may be needed for parking. Contact the local ranger district or check the Forest Service website for current requirements before your trip.
