Favorite KOA yet
Our favorite KOA yet. Beautiful campground, nestled into forest with pines, deciduous trees, and native Rhododendron. Beautiful. Clean sites and facilities. Just off 77 not far from Roanoke. Would stay here again!

I typically steer clear of KOA's because most of the sites are super close together. This KOA is different! There is a row towards the front that are pretty close together, but I think they use those for one-nighters. We were in a tent and loved our spot. The staff was UNBELIEVABLY awesome and nice. They have a pool, a pond, a playground, a dog park, and a great camp store. The bathrooms and laundry room are exceptionally clean. If you order ice or firewood, they bring it to your site. They also have food you can order and they will bring it to your site. I am sure there are many things I am forgetting, but this is a must stay and we will be back.
Cool mountain breeze and cold water…wonderful visit and close to BRPkwy and Mt Airy
As my fairly new truck self destructed climbing the Blue Ridge MTN, it was all I could do to get back to this campground. The staff was beyond helpful in getting us a spot for the night and moving us later on to a spot for the week after my truck went to the local dealer for repairs.
Wonderful campground close to exit of I77. Old growth canopy of trees provide ample shade. Pool was nice. Restroom/Showers were wonderful and clean, also ample water pressure.
Wonderfully maintained with lots of things to entertain everyone.
Had a nice stay here. Staff helped us get backed in. They have a nice shop and amenities. Even have propane refills available. Very close to the blue ridge parkway. It was nice and quiet during our 3 night stay. I would go back for sure!
We loved our stay here and have already booked for two more upcoming stays. Very well maintained sites. Staff was great.
Great place with lots of amenities. We spent an overnight on our way south and did not expect the amazing quality in service and site appearance. Top notch.
The staff were great, Its very wooded, extremely peaceful. Bathrooms were very clean. My only complaint.... site 42 was very unlevel and I barely had room for my f-150 to park. If i ever go back, there are around 6 spots there that i WILL NOT stay at.
Great service and clean campground! Highly recommend their brisket!
We stopped here for one night on the way home from DC. The owners are super nice and helped back us into the site. They have food available for purchase and a large camp store. Bathrooms were individual rooms with toilet/sink/shower and were spotless with endless hot water.
I was looking for a campground in the latter half of April and so many of the NF and NP campgrounds were not yet open. My plans had been up in the air, so I hadn’t made reservations anywhere. Jumped on The Dyrt and located this KOA just off the Blue Ridge Parkway that was ideally located for my exploration of the area AND I was able to make a late reservation on a weekday night. The campground was much busier when I departed on a Friday morning.
Like many KOAs, this has a combination of tent sites and well-equipped RV sites, ranging from back-in to pull-through as well as cabins. I’ve stayed at a few, but not many KOAs and this one had some amenities that I think are worth calling out. In addition to a pet play area, there are a few sites(51, 43& 45) with pet backyards, fenced in areas for your pet to roam and play. For the tent sites there are a couple (T84& T86) with a shared covered kitchen area plus sail-style awnings. There’s also a separate kitchen pavilion for the all campers near site 83. I didn’t explore the seasonal sites, but they are available and somewhat separate from the short-term campers.
There’s a small camp store, laundry room, clean bathrooms with showers. Firewood can be delivered to your site. They’ll lead you to your site and help you get situated if necessary. I was in site 10, a back-up site with a slight incline. It was quiet apart from the creaking trees during a windstorm😊.
In peak season, there’s a pool, a small pond (catch& release unless you want to pay), ping pong, rock mining, etc. They have great wifi (they sent a text to campers to let them know they were working to get the cable restored, but in the meantime people could use the wifi to stream movies if needed). I didn’t have a need to use it as I was able to get what I needed on my phone(Verizon).
If you’re traveling the Blue Ridge Parkway, you may want to make this an overnight stop or use it as a base to explore in different directions. I went online and discovered that Mt Airy(of Andy Griffith fame), was nearby, so I wandered into NC to explore that. I also drove along the Parkway and enjoyed Mabry’s Mill(a lot of activities were closed due to COVID, but I expect they’ll start returning to former levels as restrictions ease). On an early trip, I recall learning about making moonshine as well as the functions of the scenic mill.
We stayed in October and thoroughly enjoyed the stay. Very friendly and helpful staff. Wooded sites that were fairly level and a mix of pull through and back in.
This is a great place for fall great away. New River VA state trail is great biking. Convenient to BRP AND Mt. Airy visit is also a fun day. Location is central to all. Also great to set bank with a good book and favorite beverage.
When pulling up to this campground, we were greeted within moments. The lady (owner?) checking us in was very nice and helpful. A campground host came in a golf cart and showed us to our site, and brought us firewood as well. The site was directly across from the bathrooms, which was nice.
The dogs got a long walk around the multi-level campground set in the mountains. All of the campers we encountered were very friendly.
The campground offers bbq and pizza delivery to your site-you just have to call and order. Not sure of the price, but the campers next to us ordered a pizza and it was delivered within 30 minutes. It looked good!
Bathrooms clean, campground is nice and quiet after 8pm. No complaints! I recommend this campground, and will make my way back eventually.
We stayed here as an overnight stop but wish we could have stayed longer! Very cool campground, and the dog yard sites are awesome! Clean and friendly camp store, pool, fishing pond, and a lot of other amenities!
End of season... Pool was closed but it was hot as hell (9/3/2019). WiFi is good if you're in the right spot. We had a great spot for camping, but bad for wifi. Bathrooms were amazing. Pulled my review from a 3+ to a 5! Private baths like at home. Toilet, sink and shower all to yourself and CLEAN!
Gorgeous, out of the way campground ! Little tight to navigate, but have definitely seen worse. Very quite and slow paced. Camp store is one of the finest I’ve seen. Reasonably priced for a camp store. Didn’t get to stay long, as it was a drive through, but would definitely come back !! Only down side was the price.Would’ve been 5 stars, but $63 dollars for a Sunday night. One little night. Seems quite steep, and could’ve found a hotel room cheaper. But, needing a place to hook up and take a shower...Thanks for being here KOA !!
there's a lot of camper spaces... and about 6 or 7 tent sites. all have electric but not all have running water. pool is good sized cool little camper kitchen. excellent staff, very friendly and attentive to your needs and feedback... we will definitely go again!
This was the nicest KOA we stayed at this year
This KOA is located in the heart of Virginia's Blue Ridge close to Galax, home of the annual Fiddlers Convention. The site has several lots with private dog runs where your pooch can have space to stretch their legs while you enjoy the beauty of the facilities.
The pool is well maintained and is adjacent to a spring fed mining sluse where for a small fee you can pan for gold and other precious gems. The only down side is the steep access road to the back in campsites.
We stayed here for vacation last year. There’s a nice dog park, and the facilities are clean. My only negative was that they had us camp up on the top of the hill and it was difficult to navigate back down, with some very sharp turns for our fifth wheel. They seemed to have some nice amenities, and the staff was very friendly.
A wonderful place. Well spaced sites, clean and level.
Camp store is well stocked. The owner used to manage a Crackle Barrel, and the store is similar to the stores there.
I had a problem with the outside shower on my camper, and one of the staffers found a part that I needed and just gave it to me.
The facilities are well designed, clean and conveniently spaced throughout the park.
This will be one of my “return “ campgrounds.
