Reservations are available for this walk-in campground within Mount Greylock State Reservation, accessible by hiking roughly 1.3 miles from the parking area or driving down Sperry Road. The 35 sites spread along both sides of the campground road, with individual and group options that accommodate 5-12 people. Each site includes a picnic table, fire ring, and bear box positioned away from the camping area itself.
Black bears frequent the park, making proper food storage essential. Heidi R. notes "we had a sighting in our neighboring site and not all other campers are bear smart." Rangers deliver firewood directly to sites and provide regular reminders about bear safety protocols. The composting toilets earn consistent praise from campers for their cleanliness and spacious design.
Sites 8, 9, and 11 offer the most privacy according to reviews. The campground features several group sites with lean-tos, including Chimney Group site, Upper Group, and Stoney Ledge. A large picnic pavilion sits midway through the campground. Trees provide ample coverage for tarps and hammock setup. Water pumps located near the restroom facilities require some effort to operate but provide reliable access.
Multiple hiking trails depart from the campground, including routes to two nearby waterfalls, a section of the Appalachian Trail, and the summit of Mount Greylock. The summit lodge serves breakfast and lunch, with dinner available by reservation. Tina D. reports hearing "owls" at night, while other campers mention barred owl calls. For additional camping options in the region, see camping near Mount Greylock State Reservation.
Note that the campground has been closed since 2020 for renovations that will add modern facilities. Contact the park directly for current reopening status before planning a visit.
