Best Campgrounds near Troy, TN

Reelfoot Lake State Park anchors the camping landscape near Troy, Tennessee, with two primary camping areas: South Campground and Airpark North Campground. The region includes a mixture of state park facilities and private RV parks, with accommodation types ranging from tent-only primitive sites to full-hookup RV lots and lakeside cabins. Both campgrounds at Reelfoot Lake provide water and electric hookups, with South Campground offering additional amenities like showers, a playground, and waterfront sites. Several private options like Coyote View RV Park, Roberson Camper Lots, and Blue Bank Resort expand the variety of camping styles available within a 30-mile radius of Troy.

Access to most camping areas around Troy remains open year-round, though weather conditions can significantly impact the experience. The low-lying terrain around Reelfoot Lake makes many sites susceptible to flooding and moisture retention. Paved camping pads help mitigate muddy conditions, but tent campers should be prepared for potentially wet ground, especially after rainfall. Bug protection is absolutely essential during warm months, with mosquitoes, gnats, and flies presenting a serious challenge at lakefront sites. A camper noted, "We arrived in the evening and almost didn't stay the night...the mosquitoes, gnats, and flies were so overwhelming that we couldn't go outside."

Waterfront camping locations receive consistently higher ratings despite insect challenges, with campers particularly valuing sunset views over Reelfoot Lake. Several visitors mentioned the unique cypress tree environment and exceptional wildlife viewing opportunities, especially for bird watchers seeking eagles, ospreys, herons, and seasonal pelican migrations. Campground layouts vary significantly across the area—South Campground features more amenities but closer site spacing, while some reviewers prefer the quieter, less crowded atmosphere at Airpark North. Many campers recommend bringing or renting watercraft to fully experience the area. A review emphasized that "this park is like nothing else, it's a flooded forest. You can kayak among this and other lovely bayou environments...You will need a watercraft of some sort or you will be kicking yourself for not being able to enjoy it fully."

South Campground — Reelfoot Lake State Park

Pontoon Tour Offered by the State Park WAS WORTH IT!

Did a 2 hour pontoon tour offered at the TN State Park Visitor Center (https://tnstateparks.com/parks/reelfoot-lake). Guide was excellent. Neat to see a bald cypress in one of TN's only 2 natural lakes. The history of Reelfoot is interesting, parts of the tour feel like you are in a cypress swamp, not a lake. Saw 10 bald eagles, osprey, egret, blue heron. Worth the price and time!

    Columbus-Belmont State Park

Nice, clean campground, back sites have sewer, be prepared to level out.

Stayed here for 2 nights at site 25 on the back side of the campground. The back sites have sewer. These sites were paved, but not level, so be prepared to level. TIP: If using those yellow camco "lego" block to level, be sure to put a canvas tarp or rubber mat between the blocks and the pavement, otherwise they will slide when you try to roll on top of them. My daughter used the bathhouse, and she said it was not good. Leaky, standing water. The park was awesome, which made the bathhouse an oddity. The little snack shack over by the chain was a nice evening diversion of ice cream and funnel fries. The camp host couple was wonderful. The park is clean and well maintained.

Fourth of July, stay at Bluebank Resort

On our way across the Tennessee border, my fiancé decided he wanted to stay here as this is where he spent many childhood memories. Beautiful, small secluded resort on Reel foot lake. RV campground with hook ups, as well as a few different cabins to stay in surrounded by locals who live on the lake. Kayaking and motor boating, and cute little gift shop.

    Magnolia Campground & Country Store

    Highlights

    🌳 Highlights

Welcome & Hospitality Newly opened in October 2020 and family-run by Rick & Glenda Wilson, guests often highlight their warm, friendly service . One reviewer said:

    > “Owners and staff all super friendly, engaging and kind.”

Campground Quality Features include full hookups (30/50 amp, water, sewer), gravel pull-through sites for big rigs (up to ~43 ft), free WiFi, dump station, propane fill, fire pits, picnic tables, laundry, and a shower house .

On‑site Country Store & Deli A notable perk is the store with fresh deli items and daily lunch specials—particularly Friday catfish dinners—plus occasional breakfast on Saturdays .

    ⭐ Guest Reviews Snapshot

    Mick & Karla (30 Mar 2025)

Booked same-day, chose pull-through site, enjoyed 40 psi water, decent WiFi/cell service.

Friendly staff and solid amenities, though gravel/dirt sites got dusty or muddy depending on weather.

Road noise from nearby I‑57 noted. Felt $40/night was a bit high.

    CatTrailzz (24 Jul 2024)

Quiet despite being near the freeway. Loves the deli (noting salads and pulled pork).

    Clean facilities, new shower room.

    Plans to stay again.

    QueenMartell (16 Mar 2024)

    Friendly check-in, excellent service.

Accommodated a 43 ft fifth wheel with ease.

Highly recommends, loves the Friday catfish.

Other reviewers (Kitty, Kyla D, Tergeo)

Consistently mention friendly owners, clean/gravel sites, good common areas, and a strong likelihood to return .

    Pros & Cons

    👍 Pros 👎 Cons

Warm, personal service Sites are gravel/dirt—can be dusty or muddy Full hookups and big‑rig friendly Road noise from I‑57 On-site deli with fresh food & catfish dinners Wi-Fi and cell coverage are serviceable but not exceptional Clean shower/laundry facilities Price (~$39–40/night) might be a bit high for basic amenities

    Summary

Magnolia Campground is a great overnight or short-term stop if you’re looking for friendly hospitality, solid basic RV hookups, and the novelty of a country store with good food in southeast Missouri. It’s particularly suited for large RVs, travelers who enjoy a welcoming vibe, and those who appreciate a Friday catfish dinner. It’s not a destination resort, so if you're seeking plush amenities or a quiet nature getaway, plan accordingly.

    Bottom Line

If you're rolling through with an RV and want a hassle-free, friendly, quick stay with full hookups and good food, Magnolia is a solid choice. For longer stays, be prepared for gravel underfoot and some road noise—but clean facilities and warm hosts might still make it worth it.

    Hinton RV Park

    Loved it!

My husband and I loved this place. It was easy to find just off the interstate. Nice level sites, friendly staff. We had some issues and needed an extra day last minute and we're able to stay on until things got fixed. Plenty of things close in the area.

    Magnolia Campground & Country Store

    Very Good Customer Service

This review is based on a short stay rather than a destination campground (CG) experience. We found this CG while looking for options near Sikeston, MO, and decided to try it based on positive online reviews. Booking was easy with a same-day reservation, and we received an email with directions, the WiFi password, and instructions to pick any site between 8 and 13, designated for big rigs and short-term stays, as most of the other sites were occupied by longer-term residents. We chose pull-through site #11 with full hookups (FHU) due to its convenient angle. All of the sites, including the shorter back-ins, offer FHU. Our site accommodated our 40’ fifth wheel and F450 truck comfortably, with centrally located utilities and 40 psi water pressure. The WiFi was sufficient for checking emails and general browsing, while cell service was limited to 1 bar on Verizon and 3 bars on T-Mobile. With few trees, satellite reception wouldn’t be an issue. During our stay, we were the only short-term guests. Some sites had picnic tables and fire pits, and while ours did not, we could have moved them if desired. The CG has a nice shower house and laundry facility, but the real draw is the country store, which operates more like a restaurant. The owner and staff were exceptionally friendly, and the food was good. The sites are pretty much gravel and dirt. At $40 per night, the price felt a bit high for the amenities offered. We were there during dusty conditions, and friends came through a week later in the rain, and the CG was muddy. Along with the country store with a restaurant, there’s a dump station, plus they sell ice and propane. Being located along a frontage road off I-57, road noise was noticeable. Overall, we had a pleasant overnight stay and appreciated their hospitality.

    Reelfoot Lake State Park Campgrounds

    Flooded and construction

Did not have reservation or call ahead as website listed campsite availability. We arrived before 4:45 but everything closed at 4:30- offices, visitor center ect. No one answered phone #s nor gave any after-hour access information. From what we could see the campsites appeared flooded and a lot of construction. Why not list on website or at least have on your phone message? Hope to be this way again and will try again but not without talking with someone in the park

    Milan City RV Park

    Lot of night activity

Nice park, good facilities, but no shower. The description said there was a 'bathhouse', I assumed it had a shower.
There was a lot of traffic late at night with people parking and staying in their cars for about an hour and a truck that visited each one, not sure what was happening \-:
There's a highway next to the park with trucks occasionally engine braking.

Guide to Troy

Camping near Troy, Tennessee centers on Reelfoot Lake, formed by earthquakes in 1811-1812 that caused the Mississippi River to temporarily flow backward. The lake's shallow depth (average 5-7 feet) creates a distinctive ecosystem with cypress trees growing directly from the water. During winter months, the region becomes significantly less buggy while maintaining accessibility for campers seeking wildlife viewing opportunities.

"Columbus has plenty of areas to have a cookout, an abundance of trails to explore, a ton of scenery for your eyes to enjoy, history woven into its fabric which is narrated to you by way of signs and a museum, a beautiful campground, a pleasant little food shack with reasonable food prices (hot dogs, hamburgers, ice cream, sodas and more on menu), and cute mini Golf course!"

Civil War history exploration: Self-guided tours through actual trenches dug by soldiers. "Just down the street from the campground, maybe 0.5 miles, is the main attraction for the state park. You can even take a self-guided walking tour through the trenches dug by soldiers in the Civil War, walking by several cannons and other relics left behind."

Kayaking through cypress forests: Rental options available at multiple locations near camping areas. "The lake is very beautiful. We saw pelicans, bald eagles, and herons. The campground is on a main road so you will hear traffic. If you don't want to cook, there are restaurants very close by."
