Best Equestrian Camping near Atoka, TN

CAMPER SUMMARY PRESENTED BYFord

Neither Agricenter International RV Park nor Cook's Lake RV Resort and Campground in the Memphis area offer designated horse corrals or equestrian facilities. These RV parks primarily cater to traditional campers and RV travelers, with no specific accommodations for horses noted in their amenities. Agricenter International provides full hookup sites with water, electric, and sewer connections approximately 30-40 minutes from Memphis attractions like Graceland. The campground features buddy sites where RVs face each other with minimal privacy between units, as noted by multiple campers.

Located about 15 minutes from downtown Memphis, Cook's Lake RV Resort and Campground primarily serves long-term workers rather than recreational campers. The property sits adjacent to a police academy, creating a secure environment but offering limited recreational opportunities for families. The former mobile home park layout leaves sites exposed to weather elements. Equestrians seeking facilities for their horses will need to look beyond these immediate options, as neither property provides horse-specific amenities such as corrals, stalls, wash stations, or dedicated trailer parking areas for equestrian visitors.

Cook's Lake RV Resort and Campground

Work Campground (very few recreational campers)

We stayed here for ~2.5 months.  Will detail good/bad comments below:

    Good

    1. Owner.  Wes.  He is awesome.

    2. Safety. This is next to police academy, and has several students living in it - never felt danger here.

    3. Away from it all.  But still close to Memphis.  About 15 minutes to downtown, but within cell service.

    Bad

    1. Workers mainly.  Ton of construction, trade, and 0500-1700 workers.  This was great from a sleeping standpoint (no one was ever loud) but kids didn't have a scene so to speak.

    2. Exposed.  In the sun, rain, wind, etc.  It was an old mobile-home park, so very exposed to elements.

    Agricenter International RV Park

Close to a lot of attractions but mostly buddy sites

This is the kind of RV park that you come to to go look at the close attractions. Almost all of the sites are buddy sites where your front door is facing your neighbor's. There is no privacy at all and we actually ran into a problem with our "buddy neighbor". The problem was taken care of by the manager of the park but those are things to keep in mind. They are full hookup sites and offer up to 3 months of stay. We gave it only 3 stars because this is not the kind of park we are used to, we are used to more open sites.

The bathrooms are quite a walk if you are further into the park. There are 2 restrooms with a shower in each. One bathroom was really clean and had a nicely tiled shower. The other bathroom was always dirty and wasn't updated like the other one. The bathrooms are actually located in the farmer's market building which isn't in the RV park itself.

Local attractions: The Farmer's Market (it's an easy walk from the park), Graceland (was about 30-40 min from the park), The Miami Zoo (was about 20 min from the park). I am sure there are a lot more but we weren't able to get to them in the time that we stayed.

    Agricenter International RV Park

    Parking Lot

This is basically a parking lot for RV’s, not a campground. Campers are stacked on top of each other. I would only recommend this place if you are working an event at the Agricenter or if you are passing through town and desperate for a place to stay.

    Agricenter International RV Park

    Safe place to stay

It is definitely not the nicest Park we have been to- laundry facilities are run down, two of the dryers will tear up your clothes, and the bathrooms are never clean. They are working on adding gravel to the spaces, right now though when it rains you are in a swamp. The spaces are also very close together. All that being said, not a terrible monthly price, the trash cans are shared and the wifi is slow in the evening, but you're not paying extra for that or water or power. It is quiet, everyone keeps to themselves, they say it is 3 month maximum but I do know of some who are staying longer. It is in the nicer part of Memphis, so if you are looking for a safe place to stay here, this is it. If you are looking for a relaxing getaway in the country, it is not.

Guide to Atoka

Equestrian camping options near Atoka, Tennessee remain limited with the main established RV parks not offering dedicated horse facilities. The area's geography features gently rolling hills with elevations ranging from 300-400 feet above sea level within the Mississippi River drainage basin. Camping sites in this region typically experience hot, humid summers with mild winters, making spring and fall the most comfortable seasons for overnight stays.

What to do

Explore the Agricenter International grounds: While camping at Agricenter International RV Park, take advantage of the adjacent farmers market. "Full hookups and convenient location. We have stayed there several times," notes camper Brent M., highlighting the practical accessibility to local produce and goods.

Visit Memphis attractions: The central location provides access to city destinations within reasonable driving distance. Paul C. mentions Cook's Lake RV Resort is "about 15 minutes to downtown, but within cell service," making day trips to Memphis attractions convenient while maintaining connectivity at your campsite.

Day trips to equestrian facilities: Though no horse corrals exist at the immediate campgrounds, regional equestrians can access nearby riding facilities. The Germantown Charity Horse Show grounds are within 30 minutes of the Agricenter location, offering seasonal events for horse enthusiasts.

What campers like

Security and safety: The location of Cook's Lake RV Resort and Campground provides peace of mind for travelers. As Paul C. explains, "This is next to police academy, and has several students living in it - never felt danger here," creating a secure environment for overnight stays.

Extended stay options: For longer visits, certain campgrounds accommodate extended reservations. Nikki R. notes about Agricenter International, "not a terrible monthly price, the trash cans are shared and the wifi is slow in the evening, but you're not paying extra for that or water or power."

Responsive management: Issues that arise can be addressed promptly by staff. One camper at Agricenter mentioned, "We actually ran into a problem with our 'buddy neighbor'. The problem was taken care of by the manager of the park," demonstrating attentive staff response to guest concerns.

What you should know

Site layout considerations: The configuration of sites affects the camping experience significantly. At Agricenter International RV Park, one camper describes, "This is basically a parking lot for RVs, not a campground. Campers are stacked on top of each other," indicating minimal separation between units.

Weather and terrain impacts: The former land use at some locations creates exposure issues. Paul C. observes about Cook's Lake, "Exposed. In the sun, rain, wind, etc. It was an old mobile-home park, so very exposed to elements," suggesting limited natural windbreaks or shade.

Bathroom facilities vary: Amenities can differ significantly even within the same campground. One reviewer notes about Agricenter International, "One bathroom was really clean and had a nicely tiled shower. The other bathroom was always dirty and wasn't updated like the other one."

Tips for camping with families

Consider the campground atmosphere: Some locations cater primarily to workers rather than recreational campers. Paul C. mentions about Cook's Lake, "Workers mainly. Ton of construction, trade, and 0500-1700 workers... but kids didn't have a scene so to speak," indicating limited recreational opportunities for children.

Plan external activities: With minimal on-site recreation, prepare day trips to area attractions. One camper suggests, "Local attractions: The Farmer's Market (it's an easy walk from the park), Graceland (was about 30-40 min from the park), The Miami Zoo (was about 20 min from the park)."

Reserve in advance for equestrian events: Families bringing horses to regional events should book accommodations early. While no on-site horse facilities exist, Agricenter International RV Park occasionally hosts agricultural shows where advance reservations become essential.

Tips from RVers

Check site conditions before setup: Surface materials can create challenges during inclement weather. Nikki R. advises about Agricenter International, "They are working on adding gravel to the spaces, right now though when it rains you are in a swamp."

Late arrival accommodation: Some parks will hold reservations for travelers arriving after office hours. Anthony G. appreciated that Agricenter International "Got us in late held our spot," making it suitable for those with uncertain arrival times.

Utility reliability: Full hookup sites provide essential services, but quality varies. One camper notes about Agricenter, "It is quiet, everyone keeps to themselves, they say it is 3 month maximum but I do know of some who are staying longer."
