    Stonewood Farm

    Unique Farm Experience

I’ve never “glamped” before, so I can’t comment much from that perspective. It is not a “luxury” spot. But for us it was better than that because it was fun, comfortable and easy.

About 15 minutes from Ridgeland proper with stores, dining, etc, Stonewood Farm is tucked away in the pines a short dirt road drive off a 2 lane highway.

Kim, the host, is friendly and helpful. She gave us a tour of the farm and introduced us to the animals.

Bring a bag of carrots for the horses.

My son loved the animals and exploring.

The tent/cabin is wood framed with wood and canvas walls. The mattress on the queen bed was awesome. But you will want to spend most of your time outside under the stars and by the fire pit. The area is dark, so good star gazing.

I took pictures of the kitchen items provided.

    Great stay. Thanks!

Campground at James Island County Park

    Awesome Place to RV Camp

We found this campground well maintained and quiet. The bath house was recently remodeled and now has air conditioning. I found it to be one of the nicest bath facilities we have ever used. The campsites have full RV hook-ups and come with a picnic table and fire ring. The park does allow pets and has a dog park with a beach; it seems like the pups were having a marvelous time playing chase on the beach. This is a County Park with trails for walking or leisure biking. A new water park is under construction and should open this summer. The camp store is well stocked and the staff was very friendly and helpful. One downside was the WIFI (one of the perks at this place) did not work the entire 5 days we were there. I need to work remotely so this was a BIG problem. I had to go to the Starbucks to work...bummer! Positives were the easy drive and parking at nearby Folly Beach during the week, and the close proximity to Historic Charleston.

    Edisto Beach State Park Campground

One of South Carolina's Most Beautiful Beaches - Best Experienced Via Bicycle

There are two sections to Edisto Beach State Park. The Ocean side campground is the best with the ocean breezes, but the marsh side campground is an easy bicycle ride from the beach.

It's South Carolina in the summer, so there are mosquitoes. And the raccoons are pretty fierce so you want to make sure your food is stored securely, so you don't wake up to critters eating your potato chips.

The restrooms and showers are clean.

Edisto Island is one of the least developed islands in South Carolina. There is a Piggly Wiggly grocery store to pick up all the things you may have forgotten. There is an ice cream shop and several restaurants, but it is pretty quiet. My favorite thing about staying at Edisto Beach State Park is bicycling to the beach, bicycling along the paths in the state park that lead to a shell mound, built by Native Americans around 2,000 B.C., and bicycling for beers at one of the little bars overlooking the ocean. Another plus is the park's proximity to Botany Bay.

    Stonewood Farm

    Amazing camping experience

My daughter and I stayed in the glamping tent at Stonewood Farm just before Thanksgiving.

What a great place to unwind before the craziness of the holidays. Stonewood Farm is tucked away and offers the perfect blend of nature and farm life.

All the animals on this off-the-grid Hobby Farm are rescues and really friendly.  My 12 year old daughter was in Heaven! She had fun with the horses, goats, dogs and especially the one cat who visited our tent and crashed our Monopoly game.

The tent itself is spacious and has a tv/dvd, a heater and the most comfy bed ever.  We happened to be there during a new moon and could see a million stars and the Milky Way right over our tent. We could hear owls in the distance calling to each other.

Kimberly and Ed were amazing hosts. The campsite is away form their cabin allowing for privacy, but if we ever needed anything, they were right there to help.

My only concern is this was my daughter’s first time camping in a tent and the bar is now raised high. Haha. This is such a unique experience, we will definitely be back!

River's End Campground & RV Park

A Favorite for Beach and Outdoors Lovers

This is our favorite campground. Bring bikes and kayak- you won't be disappointed. We stayed here for 2 months and have been here before and this is one of our favorite places to come. The sites are gravel and level. Most sites are easy to get in and out of and not too close together. I have never felt cramped here. Each site comes with a fire pit and a picnic table. Location is great. Not right on the beach but a short walking distance.(NOTE: DO NOT WALK YOUR DOG ON THE BEACH- they do not give warnings and the fine is close to$300). North Beach is great- Great grill called North Beach Grill. Lots of history close by. Staff are amazing and so friendly. I would say the friendliest staff of all the parks I have ever been to. Lots of great restaurants. We camped at River's End Campground& RV Park in a Motorhome.  I highly recommend North Beach Grille, Cockspur Grille, and Huck-A-Poo - all are walking and biking distance from the campground (Actually everything is biking distance from the campground).

    Givhans Ferry State Park Campground

    Nice Primitive camping area

I like the primitive camping area. The bathroom and water source is nearby, as well as a pavilion/shelter. There are three sections, with multiple areas for camping in each one. Each has 2-3 tables and a fire ring.

I hammock camp, and there are plenty of trees useful for this purpose. This is primitive, so there is no electrical or water spout, although the bathroom has both. There is a 1 1/2 mile walking trail nearby, that runs along the Edisto River.

I haven't actually frequented the other camping areas: RV drive-up and walk-in, so I can't review them.

    Edisto Beach State Park Campground

    Fantastic Campground

Fantastic Campground located right on the beach in Edisto Island, SC!

First off, I've visited the state park since I was a child, but normally we would go to walk the long beach to the northern inlet area. This was my second time camping here and first time tent camping. It was a pure joy and I'll be back whenever I can.

The only drawback is its popularity. I ended up only being able to spend one night at the beach campground because it is fully booked all the way into October.

There are usually available sites in the Live Oak Campground located on the marsh, but the beach sites go quickly.

    Edisto Beach State Park Campground

    Oh, so hot.

This was not my favorite beach camping. Mostly, we weren't prepared to be shadeless, and the sun was relentless. If you book a spot by the beach, for the love of all things good, bring a proper shade tent. The marsh was our only protection, and we literally sat in it to be out of the sun. Other sites, however, have good shade, especially sites that aren't on the beach. There are no animal boxes for food, and rats and raccoons abound! Be sure to check out the natural beach on Edisto Island.

River's End Campground & RV Park

River's End - Well Kept KOA

Mainly a RV park, but about a dozen tent pads (fine gravel, well kept, no trash) in grassy lots with picnic table and fire pit. Family style bathroom/ showers. Office with coffee, games, books. Host on golf cart was helpful with last minute arrival and places to eat on island. 3 block walk to beach. There was also a larger group camping area - saw a scout troop there - these sites had water and power.

Guide to Edisto Island

Glamping near Edisto Island, South Carolina offers coastal accommodations ranging from beachside to marsh-adjacent sites. The region sits at sea level with a subtropical climate that maintains mild temperatures from fall through spring, though summer humidity levels regularly exceed 80%. The area features maritime forests of live oak draped with Spanish moss, creating natural shade at many campsites.

What to do

Cycling exploration: Edisto Beach State Park Campground features extensive biking paths throughout the property. "We camped here during the winter and had fun. This campsite is perfect for riding bikes around," notes Aimee M. The park's Live Oak section offers additional trails for riders of all skill levels.

Beach activities at North Beach: River's End Campground provides easy access to Tybee Island beaches. "Steps from the ocean... The Beach campground was just steps from the ocean. Opt for sites 1-12 or 50-75. Bathrooms were great. Shelling was incredible-especially if you walk towards the inlet around low tide," recommends Katie F.

Golfing access: For visitors seeking recreational alternatives, Stoney Crest Plantation Campground sits near Hampton Hall Club golf course, providing an 18-hole option just north of the campground. However, camping facilities receive mixed reviews, with Stuart K. noting the "restroom and shower facilities [are] in dire need of a super cleaning and updated refurbishment."

What campers like

Spacious, private sites: James Island County Park receives consistent praise for site layout. "Sites are spacious and clean... It has a fantastic dog park and several miles of paved walking/biking paths," reports Terry J. This park maintains over 643 acres with extensive amenities including climbing walls and water features.

Quiet coastal atmosphere: Mount Pleasant-Charleston KOA earns high marks for its peaceful setting. "Beautiful campground. Clean and well kept... Short walk to the savannah river beach. A little longer walk to the ocean beach," notes Gregory Q. The campground maintains waterfront sites with dock and lake access.

Off-season availability: Edisto Beach State Park maintains year-round operations with distinct advantages in cooler months. "Weekend on the marsh w 3 dogs... Bathrooms are clean. Staff are friendly," states Tori S. Winter camping provides reduced crowds while maintaining access to beach areas and forest trails.

What you should know

Shower facilities: Bathroom quality varies significantly between campgrounds. At Givhans Ferry State Park, "We found this campground well maintained and quiet. The bath house was recently remodeled and now has air conditioning." However, another visitor experienced challenges: "Bathrooms wouldn't even open with code."

Seasonal traffic considerations: James Island County Park hosts holiday light shows impacting camper experience. "So I stayed during November and December... The traffic was incredible at night. I really think they should give a discount during this time of year because of the inconvenience of having to deal with the traffic," notes Tim.

Site spacing concerns: Some campgrounds feature tightly arranged sites. At River's End Campground, Alana F. reports: "The spots are stacked on top of each other, and it's all gravel. We had to walk pretty far to get to a grassy spot so my dog could pee... I've never felt more sardined before."

Tips for camping with families

Water park access: James Island County Park features extensive water recreation for children. "Wonderful park with plenty of amenities! We stayed here in October when the water park/pool was closed, but there was still plenty to do with bike rentals and the outdoor adventure area," writes Nick & Allyssa S.

Dog-friendly options: Point South KOA welcomes pets with dedicated facilities. "Pet friendly with an enclosed dog area, beautiful area, clean, friendly and attentive staff," notes Rena G. The campground also maintains a playground and activities like gem mining that appeal to younger visitors.

Playground proximity selection: When booking at James Island County Park, select sites near recreational areas. "The site is very kid friendly. They have an awesome park... It's quiet. It's great," says Wendolyn P. The park features multiple playgrounds distributed throughout the property.

Tips from RVers

Dump station location: Some campgrounds position dump stations inconveniently. At Edisto Beach State Park, Spencer S. notes, "Only negative dump site is a mile up main road." Plan accordingly when scheduling departure to accommodate this extra stop.

Utility access considerations: Site selection impacts hookup convenience. Kevin A. advises about Edisto Beach State Park: "We stayed in site 94 this past weekend. Good sized site. Water is very close to front make sure you have enough hose. This site backs up to the main road."

Level site availability: New Green Acres RV Park offers practical benefits for overnight stops. "This campground is right off 95 and very easy to access. Loud highway noise, but tolerable... No rock or concrete pad to park on so be prepared to level your RV," reports Tracey S. Sites require self-leveling despite being pull-through design.
