Kings Mountain — Kings Mountain State Park

Many camping sites are very much in need of leveling. Sites slope from left to right, front to back, and some slope in both ways. Some sites are listed as RV sites but are half as large as they need to be to accommodate a medium size RV. If that wasn't enough, sites are very close to each other and there are almost no plants other than tall trees to offer any privacy. SC Park system needs to take a serious look at making improvements.

I recently stayed for 3 nights with my popup in site#10.  The site is a good size for a tent or small camper only.  Overall we were surprised by the campground based on other reviews .  In my opinion The sites are close together, poorly maintained, and most are very small.  The Trading Post is nicely stocked, and open all day.  The bathrooms near my site were the best part…it was modern, clean and the showers were hot with good pressure.  But other than the bathrooms everything felt like it hadn’t been maintained at all. Won’t be coming back.

My husband and I come out to camp at kings mountain state park often and we love it if we decide to go camping or to go out to walk some trails with our dog this is the place we always come to the park rangers are all nice respectful and the keep the place clean and help to make your stay amazing. They also answer any questions you may have about the park like things to do while you are there and to enjoy your stay.

1st thing was i received an email telling me to check in at trading post and had the wrong address. we arrived as well as 2 other campers at the wrong address and then had to drive a mile or so to turn around. The trading post check in is in the campground!! The park is very pretty with all the trees, but the campsites themselves are very unlevel and laid out very awkwardly. The electric and water are in odd spots on each site. Luckily we were on one of the rare fairly level sites. The road into the campground is narrow, hilly and windy. We were able to do it in our 32 foot class A, but luckily no one was coming the other direction. This would be a very nice park if they spent some money on the individual campsites.

Lovely shaded campground. Boat rentals at Lake York. National Military Battlefield nearby. WiFi available at the Trading Post, but not at campsites. Some sites have cell service, site #48 does not for Verizon. Site #48 is not level but not bad. Park is tidy and clean. Quiet on a Wednesday.

Large sites, mostly level, with table and fire ring. Decent bath/shower buildings. Large day use area with pavilions, tables, grills and playgrounds. Cute camp store.

We enjoyed this campground, but most sites were as close together as dome commercial/independent campgrounds that aside,the one recently remodeled facility was great, the other older facilities were a bit lacking. Sites were mostly not level, but also not too obtuse

Cell coverage not the greatest, but managed 6 or 7 meg down on Visible and T-mobile

Great local family campground with lots of great hiking trails.

They have two campgrounds, newest has 50amp service with sewer hook up and mostly drive thru campsites, but out in the open with no shade trees. Older campground is heavily wooded with beautiful forest and some sites have water frontage to tie up your boat. 30 amp service with no sewer, all sites are paved and pretty level. All the bath houses are nice and clean. Beautiful place to camp! One of our favorite places to camp!

In full disclosure. We bought a camper and decided on this campground as our maiden voyage. It’s close to the dealer we bought the camper from, and had available sites on short notice.

We’ve tent camped here before and enjoyed our stay and will this time as well.

I’ve never towed a camper before and I’m still learning. Any sites that have a moderate slope can be a challenge. Especially to a newbie.

I’m this case we made it work using leveling chocks on one side of the camper. No complaints. We wish we made a better site selection that’s more level. Lol.

A nice quiet place that’s well maintained, but with minimal amenities. We like the quiet and hiking trails and enjoy our stays here.

Great all around experience. Myself,the wife and boys all had a great time. Bath houses were clean with no issues. Camping store was stocked with all your needs with a very nice associate. Definitely will be returning, hopefully in January after the holidays...

I've been staying in this campground since I was a kid. It used to have put-put golf and you could swim in Crawford lake,  but it still has basketball, volleyball, boating, hiking, and plenty of camping. This Thanksgiving weekend, I along with my daughter, brother, and 3 nephews hiked the CCC trail to the Poplar trail and jumped on the national park trail to get to the national park backcountry camping spot, and stayed the night. There is plenty of water and downed trees for firewood. There is a ring of rocks for the fire ring. The GPS coordinates are, 35.120455,-81.406060 for the backcountry camping spot. There is another good one at 35.119412,-81.404258. Along the CCC trail, you can see the foundations and gate post for the old Conservation Camp founded after the great depression. The damn at Lake Crawford and the bathhouse were built by the CCC.

This is a very nice state park. The sites are well spaced and wooded. (If you think they are too close together you haven’t been to many private campgrounds). Our site was level and spacious, although some were not as level. Our first site had an awkward incline. The guy at the trading post said they were working on them. We were there mid-week and the campground was very quiet. The only noise was from crows and other birds, and acorns falling in the woods. There is electric (some 50 amp) and water but no sewer. There are 2 dump stations. Several bathrooms/showers are available. There is a nice playground, hiking trails, a lake, canoe rental, and a trading post with some food, ice, camping supplies, firewood and souvenirs. There is also a separate Equestrian campground! The stare park is adjacent to Kings Mountain National Battlefield Park, with Revolutionary War history and more hiking.

We stayed for 2 weeks we love it there close to grocery stores ,gas,Starbucks but secluded the thing we don’t like is that internet is spotty in that area made it hard to work from home

Nice campground for hiking, historic buildings nearby and a great camp store. Lots of regulars it seems. Sites are close but not a negative. Lots of loud neighbors the weekend that we were there. Beautiful water areas, great places to take photographs lots of friendly people. Our site was private and not too far from the tent camping area. Bathrooms were nice and kept well.

Nice campground can get busy on weekends and holidays.Usually locals with family.Lots of hiking trails and the battleground to your.

We went for a weekend with our grandsons. Due to our work schedule we arrived after the gate was locked-not a problem, but they do lock gates fairly early. The road in is quite narrow, and if you happen to meet another RV, someone will need to back up. The campsites are packed it really tight without many trees between them. We had a small pull through that worked fine for a weekend. Bathrooms were adequate. There’s a nice playground hiking trails and a small lake for paddling (no swimming). The park was quiet with many families camping there. We will probably visit again but will go during the week to avoid some of the crowd.

Sweet little 4 mile hike back to a primitive camping area. There is one designated area but we passed a few campsite scattered along other areas of the trail. The National park sits back-to-back with the state park and is joined by a nice trail.

We stayed here for a weekend in March 2021 and were surprised at how much we liked it. There are lots of trails close to the campground with one around a lake and a stream off of it. Facilities were very well maintained. Only downside not all lots level and some stumps that were hard to manuver around to park and to leave spot.

If you happen to have loud drunk neighbors, who party until 3:30 am, the hosts will not tell them to be quiet. Someone did call the sheriff, but no one came until 10 am the next morning. They woke the drunks up to tell them to be quiet, but they were allowed to stay in the park. I give it 2 stars because this is a beautiful park.

It was our first time camping as a family and now we wish we could camp every weekend!

Great place to camp. 2 Fishing lakes. Boat rentals. Loaner fishing rods, must have SC license.

Lots of trails to choose from. Beautiful views. Lots of history. Visit here often.

Lots of sites could use some attention. Tangled tree roots, water ruts. Muddy when it rains. They don’t put gravel often. It gets jam packed on the weekend. Staff isn’t terribly friendly. Lots of big group tent campers. Lots to do in the area. Very friendly squirrels.

A fun place to take your travel trailer or RV for the weekend. Sites are large and plenty of space to spread out and enjoy with your pets. Campground store was well stocked with essentials including bundles of wood.

It's a very nice campground with very friendly people and nice trails around. The only issue which wasn't big for me due to tent camping, the sites looked washed out and very unlevel so depending on camper or RV might take some work getting level!

Tons to do, including hikes and history. Make sure to go across the street to the Kings Mountain Military site. Better yet, plan your stay when they are doing an event.
