King Creek Primitive Campsites

Backcountry enthusiasts will find King Creek Primitive Campsites accessible via Burells Ford Road, a fully gravel and rocky route that may challenge low-clearance vehicles. This National Forest campground offers multiple access options including drive-in sites directly off the gravel road and hike-in backcountry sites reached from a parking area.

The $19 sites feature fire rings and basic amenities including toilets and picnic tables, with pets and alcohol permitted. Campers report finding two drive-in sites spread far apart along the main road - one easily spotted on the left, another more secluded on the right. The facility serves as a base for exploring Oconee State Park Campground and accessing unmarked side roads, though visitors should exercise caution as these paths can lead to stream crossings and unexpected dead ends.

Don’t show up after dusk

From Hwy 107 you can access Burells Ford road which is fully gravel and rocky, certain cars may have difficulty. Just follow the gravel road and you’ll find a parking lot on the left that has a backcountry campsite but you have to hike to the site, it’s not a drive in site. If you keep continuing on the gravel road we passed two small campsites very spread out. It’s primitive camping with just a site off the road and a fire ring. The first site is easy to find on the left side, almost impossible to miss. The second site is on the right a little more difficult to find but it’s a great spot that’s very secluded. We took our jeep on some unmarked thin side roads and found that they have weird dead ends and you drive through streams. The scariest dead end had rocks placed in circles... very creepy at night. I highly recommend staying on the gravel road and not venturing on the side paths with your car. I will include creepy pictures.
