    Caveat Emptor

I came up for an event at the farm show grounds(yes the event you’re thinking of). I made a reservation and paid in full the day after it was announced 6 days beforehand. I got a call the day before Friday stating that I wasn’t able to check in until 1PM and the latest was 8PM. I asked if I could park there before the event and deal with it later. The owner reluctantly agreed, however said that my vehicle would be towed if I came after 8. He also stated that I couldn’t check in early or wait a little. Gates closed at 1; and was over at 8 and couldn’t leave the parking lot until 10. Needless to say I just drove home 3 hours instead. Mind you the“campground” is a quarter mile from the farm show grounds. I honestly just wanted somewhere to rest my eyes for a couple of hours in my car before I left early on the morning. I understand that places like this have policies, however this was probably the largest congregation of people Butler and the Farm Show has ever hosted. There was 10s of thousands of people in town and as a bonus the rounds were closed to due construction. If you lean even a little right, caveat emptor. The guy knew exactly what was doing. This will be the most expensive$35 this guy ever stole.

    Beaver Creek State Park Campground

Warm Days, Cool Nights--No Frills Camping

When you pull into Beaver Creek Family Campground you pretty much have two choices: either you go left into multiple Pine tree sites or right into two cabins and more RV friendly open sites.  A few of the RV sites have electric, but no water for their tanks.  I suggest the pine sites for any tent or hammock campers.  I stayed in one of the first set of 3 pine sites numbered 43, 44, and 45.  There is some brush and cover between these sites, but each has a pull in parking pad.  If 45 was occupied with a RV, 44 would not be as nice as it was.  Backing into 44 and 45 would be tricky as well.  To be fair any larger RV that came in better know how to get through tight quarters.

The back area of each of those 3 sites looked best to get even ground for a tent.  My buddy hung his hammock between the tree to the left of the picnic bench and to a tree back and left in the picture of site 44.  Site was fairly clean, but be sure to move the pine tree duff away from the fire pits to be safe.

Probably the nicest pit toilets I have experienced and while we didn't use, it the sun shower building would give anyone privacy if they had packed a portable shower.  Lots of trails to choose from and the pioneer village in the state park gives you many options to spend the day.  Had some luck fishing at the Canoe/Kayak area in the South East area of the park close to the Group Camp Sites.

Camping right on the River with nice trails.

First time staying at Clear Creek State Park and had a spot just below where the Creek empties into the River.  We were able to turn the RV so the door/awning faced the River.  We saw a two different Merganser mamas with young, a green heron fishing, and a bald eagle go up the River.  We were right across from the showerhouse but noise was minimal.  Our dog had the riverbank to explore on her camp leash of course.  Hiking above the campground was very nice and we did an easy loop of almost 6 miles.  Mountain Laurels were in bloom.  Very clean park.  Showerhouse was well-kept.  Bringing the kayaks next time.

    Perfect little campground

This campground was perfect for what we needed to accomplish! As first time travel trailer owners, they helped us accomplish our first trip away! Upon calling to book a site, we mentioned this was our first trip, they made the utmost effort to accommodate us with all of our needs. They escorted us to our campsite (which was larger than most) and made sure we had plenty of help getting backed in and set up! The front office and store was tiny but had a few essentials in case you forgot or didn’t have things. The site was quiet and even though you were close to your neighbors it didn’t feel like it to us! The atmosphere seemed friendly among the other campers and they were all willing to lend a helping hand where needed. They definitely made our first trip a huge success!

    Incredible views

Mountain Top was off the beaten path and very quiet. The check in process was easy and our site was flat. We had the most amazing views from our site. Water and electricity were easy to access and hook up. Bathhouse was clean. Only disappointment was that the showers were coin operated, so you not only needed cash on hand but then had to turn those into special coins for the shower. They had both ice and firewood available that was self service.

    State park camping for all

This is truly one of my favorite state parks to camp at. The whole campground is mostly wooded with hardly a bad site. They have primitive, electric only and full hookups available. This is definitely a family friendly campground. If you're into hiking there's lots to see here. There's no camp store in the campground, who is something they could improve upon, but you can get supplies nearby.

    Horrible money hungry people

This place will literally scam you out of every dollar they can! Don't use the hot tubs....and you'll still be charged for dirty water. Also, watch for cameras. Pretty bad that the cabin was cleaner when I left then when I showed up. Yet they charged$100 for dirty hot tub water when I made sure the filter was clean and no foam existed when I left. After stating they were getting a bad review for scamming me out of money they threatened to post some bullshit video of a dirty hot tub filter, which I find hilarious considering it could not have been the same filter since I checked it before I departed. I am not the only one complaining about this nonsense...read all reviews from all sources and take pictures to prove everything cause it seems they like to dirty shit themselves just to make a quick dollar. They will be nice to your face, then scam you out of your money, and after they charge your card they become ignorant liars.

Run fast! Unless you like sleeping by sewage and shady management

First off when calling to make sure we could put a tent on our rv site they told us they would have to charge us for a rustic site for the weekend$99 for 3 nights. So on-top of the$249 we had to pay$99 more for a tent on the same site. Ok so we paid it. i asked A few people& they said they did not have to pay extra! not cool! Woke up on the first morning here&there was a flow of water coming from the ground. It had a bad smell to it& it was heading toward our site area. We had the ground manager come over&he told us"it was not sewage but it did smell bad". He did come back and offer us 2 sites(rem we had to pay for a rustic camp site for our tent) up closer to the playgrounds. This area was literally 20 feet from the pavilion, the giant campfire, bathrooms, volleyball court&playground&our neighbors would literally be in the back of our picnic table. NO space!!! So we choose to stay in our current spot. They did offer$25 off a day. later that day the water was getting worse, it is gray in color! This is not just ground water! Its some kind of water runoff from sewage somewhere. we stopped a staff member& he came over and told us they knew about this They dug it up& just filled it back in. Seriously!? Oh its site 75 STAY AWAY! So we sent that staffer to get the manager about 530(mind you he was supposed to stop by at 300 also). Anyways the mgr never came over. We just went to wash dishes& there the mgr& staffer were playing corn hole& drinking!! We have heard from multiple campers here that this place changed ownership in 2021&they said it has gone down hill! They said just this year the prices have about doubled for permanent rental sites& alot of people are moving out at the end of this season! This should be a huge sign to people coming here the"regulars" are leaving Day 2 I went to the rest room at 3am& the toilet would not flush& i couldnt wash my hands, no notes in the bathroom about water issues. Woke up this morning& was i formed that the sewage was worse& came closer to my tent. I popped out of the tent& it is flowing closer but there is still a few feet before it hits us. Also found out that my friends husband went up to the bathhouse this morning to use the facilities still no water. He walked out& found the manager in a room turning back on the water. He said"i came in today& heard the water was off". He then went back into the restroom&there was water. then went back outside& looked at the door mgr was in was& it was a locked door. only way water was off is if you or your staff turned it off buddy! Our neighbors by us told us that they were given notice to conserve water. Conserving water&taking water away from us(turning it off and locking the door) are too totally different things! My friend called the office and spoke to his wife& she got irate w/ him. Shortly after The mgr came flying over yelling at us to leave(so disclaimer my friends husband did make the decision to stay because he did not want to move his pop up&the new sites were ridiculously small, but he also couldn't just bite his tongue) The mgr& my friends husband got into a very loud verbal match which ended up with us getting 3 hours to leave the campground with no refund at all now. My friend stepped in& tried to reason with the mgr& he said"you guys did nothing, you have been very understanding but he has not". So i get why we were kicked out. it sucks because of 1 bad egg all of our weekends were ruined! Over all yes my friends husband got us kicked out, the fact still remains these owners are shady& unfair! They knew the whole time there was a septic issue& still rented us the site. Not to mention their ridiculous rules which so many other campers broke with multiple cars on the sites& we were made to buy a whole site for the weekend just to pop up a tent on one site(i would have parked at the entrance thats fine!) also, why are there so many photos on FB of the manager and his dad winning 1st n 2nd place with$$ for games? That should be for paying campers. I have showed you inside the shadiness of these people.camp at your own risk! This IS NOT MY FIRST rodeo camping! Ive been to MANY private campgrounds and state parks in my 45 years of life! The rules n regs here are ridiculous. Side note when you call a campground a month before labor day and they still have open rv sites… HERES YOUR SIGN! Will totally remember that for the rest of my life! We made a very bad decision coming here. I hope i can save you your time money and health coming here too

    Labor Day weekend

Campground was clean and well maintained. Only issue we ran into was that the fire pit was not cleaned out after the last folks. It wasn’t a huge deal but there we had quite a bit of debris and wet ash to deal with. The wash houses scattered throughout are new and very clean. The one across from our site had 4 private bathrooms with a toilet and shower. Very well patrolled and tons of stuff to do within biking/running/driving distance.

My 9 year old and myself got a tent site with electric for two nights and had a great time. The sites were all level and were well-shaded. The pool area and bath house were clean and maintained. My husband and I stayed in Teepee number 3. He has never camped before except being a marine. We love it. We stayed in site C6 one of the reservable sites. Every site has plenty of room. Campground overall is quiet. And most if not all of the full hookups are pull throughs. But seems many of the tent sites are on grades. Couple beautiful walk in tent sites right on the water. Plenty of nice hiking trails. Great beach for kids.
