Glamping sites near Clarion, Pennsylvania range from 1,300 to 1,900 feet in elevation across the Allegheny Plateau region. Most campgrounds in the region operate from April through October, with several offering year-round options for winter camping enthusiasts.
What to do
Fishing at clear, shallow waters: Tionesta Creek offers excellent fishing opportunities with native brook trout. "The creek was nearby. We drove through the loop and noticed nearly all of the sites were close together. We did not use the public facilities, so no opinion there. 1-2 bars of Verizon coverage," notes a visitor to Tionesta Rec. Area Campground.
Hiking through old-growth forests: Multiple trails depart directly from campgrounds in the area. At Chapman State Park Campground, "There are several hiking trails that depart right from the campground. One of them takes you right to the state game lands (29 I think?). I'll have to remember that for future hunting seasons."
Disc golf courses: Several campgrounds maintain disc golf courses through wooded areas. Oil Creek Family Campground features "a 27-hole disc golf course (recently expanded from 18 hole) primarily in the woods near and around the campground property," according to a camper who rated it as "the best private campground that we have ever camped at."
What campers like
Privacy and seclusion: Minister Creek offers secluded sites away from crowds. One camper reported, "With only six campsites, it's definitely 'first come, first served.' The sites are well proportioned (not right on top of each other), and perfectly situated at the base of the trailhead," about their stay at Minister Creek Campground.
Clean facilities: Bathhouses and common areas receive regular maintenance at most campgrounds. A visitor to Jellystone Park at Kozy Rest mentioned, "Great campground and very clean. Probably the cleanest shower house I have ever seen at a campground."
Wildlife viewing: Bears, brook trout, and other wildlife are common sightings. "I did have two separate run ins with bears but over all a great experience! Would definitely go back!" shared a camper at Clear Creek State Park, highlighting the area's abundant wildlife while maintaining a positive review.
What you should know
Water and utility connections: Some sites require extensive hoses or cords to reach hookups. At Kalyumet Campground, a camper noted, "Our only complaint would be the site we were in (11) and others next to it were quite far from the water and cable hookups. I ended up having to run 60ft of water hose and 50ft of cable in order to get a connection."
Limited cell service: Many campgrounds have minimal or no cell reception. "None of the major carriers have service here, but I needed to 'get away' for the night so it was perfect," reported a visitor to Two Mile Run County Park.
Seasonal restrictions: Most campgrounds close during winter months with limited exceptions. Many operate from April through October, with some extending their season through December during mild years.
