Musick Guard Station

Remote access via rough gravel roads leads to this historic Forest Service campground in the Umpqua National Forest. Musick Guard Station sits on a forested ridge between Fairview Peak and Grouse Mountain, built in 1934 by the Civilian Conservation Corps as part of early fire protection efforts in the Bohemia Mining district.

The site operates without electricity or running water, requiring campers to bring all essentials. A vault toilet provides basic facilities, while picnic tables and fire rings support traditional camping. RVs are limited to 15 feet maximum due to access constraints. The drive requires patience and careful navigation over long stretches of gravel with potholes and rocks. Cell service remains limited in this remote location. For additional options, campers can explore campgrounds near Umpqua National Forest throughout the surrounding forest system.

Amazing experience, wonderful scenery.

We enjoyed this experience with our family of 4 and 2 friends. The drive to get there was a little hectic but worth it. Long gravel roads filled with holes and big rocks. Take your time on the drive, your tires will thank you.

Don’t forget he essentials, no electricity or running water. There is a vault toilet outside.
