Forest Road 51 near Beaver Creek

Within Siuslaw National Forest, Forest Road 51 near Beaver Creek provides dispersed camping access via a narrow gravel forest road that climbs roughly two miles from the day-use area below. The US Forest Service maintains this route, though campers describe it as "one lane mountain road, pretty nicely graveled" that requires careful navigation but remains accessible to standard vehicles.

Multiple pull-off sites scatter along the road system, with the most popular spot located at the intersection where Forest Road 51 meets another forest service road. Dylan B. found this intersection site offered "views of the forest were sweet, and it was a really nice and spacious spot." Additional camping areas extend down both directions from this junction, with reviewers noting that sites further along the left fork tend to be more private and spacious.

Vehicle traffic passes through periodically since these remain active forest roads, though most campers report minimal disturbance. Cell service varies by location, with some sites receiving a few bars while others have no coverage during the drive up. The nearby Beaver Creek day-use area at the road's base provides pit toilets and picnic tables, plus opportunities to spot beavers near the water.

Access requires standard clearance vehicles, as several reviewers successfully navigated the route in sedans. Sites fill on a first-come basis, particularly during peak coastal camping seasons when places to camp near Seal Rock become scarce. Previous campers sometimes leave firewood and basic supplies behind. Anna P. appreciated the "very quiet, lovely views of the sky at sunset" from the elevated forest setting.

Early arrival improves site selection chances, especially during summer weekends when coastal campgrounds reach capacity.

Many guests appreciated the secluded forest setting with spacious sites along a gravel road 15 minutes from Highway 101. Some visitors expressed concerns about narrow access for large RVs and occasional traffic issues, but most found it peaceful and well-suited for smaller vehicles seeking coastal area camping.

Great spot and what I was expecting

One lane mountain road, pretty nicely graveled. Last campers left pit and firewood- will leave some more for the next. We listened to another review and headed left when the road split up near the top and took that first site on the right.

3rd spot is best

Road is a bit overgrown in spots but if you go past the first 2 spots through the bushes last spot on the right is most private and spacious

Peaceful, limited spots

Nice area up a narrow forest road. When you get to the top of the road it Ts with another forest road, where there was a pull off that would fit one or two cars/vans. Turn left (where the GPS coordinates indicate) and there are three more sites, two are a few minutes down this other road. Turn right and there is one more spot. A few other very small pull offs. Very quiet, lovely views of the sky at sunset. The Beaver Creek park at the bottom of the forest road has a pit toilet and picnic tables for day use.

Not for RV!

Narrow and unpaved road. Vert narrow, My trailer could barely fit through and there was only a three-way intersection inside to make a U-turn, otherwise my trailer wouldn’t be able to get out!

Secluded!

There is almost nowhere to stay in the Newport/Oregon Coast areas, so this spot was a life saver! After you hit the dirt road, there are a few good but smaller pull off spots and a few bigger ones. Very quiet. So far, no one has bothered me, and I've only seen 1 car go past.

Really sweet spot

Stayed here two nights at the spot right at the intersection of the two roads. Views of the forest were sweet, and it was a really nice and spacious spot.

I only saw two spots in this is area up here so get here early and you should get a spot.

No service on the drive up but had a couple bars at my campsite. Beaver creek area was really cool, but the main trail was flooded out when I visited. I did see about 5 beavers close to the road though, so that was sweet.

By far one of my favorite campsites I’ve been to, highly recommend.

Fun spot for impromptu camping trip!

My husband and I decided we wanted to camp at the coast this weekend and every other camp site and state park was full, so we stumbled upon this place! It was easy to find following the directions on this site. Like other reviews mentioned, there are cars that drive by since it is a forest road, but we didn’t notice too much of a disturbance from them. It was pretty secluded. We stayed at the intersection campsite, and it was great! There was trash from previous campers, but we cleaned it up before we left!

Could’ve been so good 🥲

This area was easy to get to with Apple Maps which was great, however there was only one open site - after settling in it became clear that the other sites were more permanent setups….. there were cars coming and going all night, one in the dark going easily 50mph almost hit us. Would not recommend in its current state for people looking for calm camping.

Great if you can snag a spot

Looks like there are 2 pull off spots here. One was taken by another camper, and I was grateful to snag the second one. Stayed here for 2 nights. It is off a gravel road, but it's not that busy. Pretty view and relatively secluded. Would stay again. The 2ish mile drive up the gravel road to get here was easy enough.

Peaceful, very little traffic

Stayed here on a Sunday night in June, there’s two campsites. One at the fork in the road and one slightly further down. I stayed in the first with my camper Subaru. Only had maybe 4 cars pass from 6pm to 10pm. Tiny bit of trash around but as always leave it better than you found it!

Good pit stop while driving up the 101

I probably wouldn't do this if I had a trailer or an rv, but my toyota Corolla did just fine. The marked coordinates are a little overgrown, but there's a good tent spot a couple hundred feet beforehand. Pretty chilly evening, but it was definitely secluded and peaceful

Quiet and isolated

About 15 minutes off the 101, with the last 3 mi being unpaved gravel road (well groomed). Campsite is isolated and quiet. Some scattered trash in the area.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get to Beaver Creek Camping area via Forest Road 51?

Forest Road 51 near Beaver Creek is approximately 15 minutes off Highway 101, with the last 3 miles being an unpaved gravel road that's well-maintained. The road is narrow in spots, with some areas slightly overgrown, but most passenger vehicles can navigate it without issues. When you reach the top of the road, it forms a T-intersection with another forest road where you'll find several camping spots. Some are located at the fork, while others can be found by turning left or right at this intersection. The road is easily navigable with standard GPS or map applications despite being in a remote location.

Where is Beaver Creek located in Oregon?

Beaver Creek is located along the Oregon Coast, near Newport. It's situated in a peaceful forested area that provides a secluded alternative to the busier coastal camping options. The area offers views of lush forest and greenery, typical of Oregon's coastal regions. Given its proximity to Highway 101 (about 15 minutes away), it serves as a convenient base for exploring the central Oregon coastline while enjoying a more remote camping experience.

What camping options are available in Beaver Creek, Oregon?

The Forest Road 51 area near Beaver Creek offers primitive dispersed camping with several pull-off spots. There are approximately 5-6 sites total, with some located at the T-intersection and others found by turning left or right at this junction. The sites are first-come, first-served with no reservations or facilities. Most spots can accommodate a car or van, while some larger areas might fit a small trailer. These sites are not recommended for large RVs or trailers due to the narrow, unpaved road and limited turnaround space. Sites fill up quickly, especially during summer weekends, so arriving early is advised.
