Perfect little getaway
There’s cabins and yurts if tent or RV camping isn’t your thing. Close to water for.

Lots of cool things to do, bike trail that goes along the river and a really cool play area for the kids plus a great big dog exercise area.
Great fishing and biking, the yurts are fun too.
Very nice disc golf area. Easy access to Public bathrooms, and dinning. Great park hidden in between woodburn and Hubbard.
we chose this site based on its central location to points if interest we wanted to visit while in Oregon. we didn't spend much time at the site, except for dinner and to sleep. it was quiet and the onsite staff was friendly. no complaints. very quiet.
Champoeg State Park is on the Willamette Valley Scenic Bikeway, and a great place to camp if you want to do a long biking getaway. The campground is pretty full service for a state park. You can buy ice and firewood onsite, and there is a small store that is a short walk away. There is also a children's playground and lots of bike paths.
What Champoeg is lacking is atmosphere. Since you're in the valley, the campground is mostly just flat land with very little tree cover. You'll definitely be able to see your neighbors whether you're in the tent or rv area.
Biking the loop to St. Paul is a fun countryside ride. The location is also pretty accessible to wine country.
Just north of Wilsonville, this is a great quick last minute getaway spot. Open camping spots, great facilities and a short walk to hiking, biking, fishing and more.
Fun place to visit if you live in Yamhill County (or even Salem/Keizer area). Especially when you want something close by and need to get out and explore! Pet friendly, great nature walks, and so much to see!
Beautiful in the summertime. Great for families. Make sure to pack a swimsuit to play in the water!
We've been here 3 times, once for tent camping and twice in a yurt. The yurts are heated, and a couple of them are pet friendly, which is great for us! There is a small table in each yurt. Theres a couch and a bunk bed for sleeping arrangements, with the lower bunk larger than the top bunk. Great walking trails and day use areas, and our favorite thing about this place is biking on the biking trails surrounding the area. Beautiful and close to civilization for a quick and low key camping trip. Great for beginner campers and families!
visit was great played disc golf with buddies and went for a jog.
No swimming, but beautiful scenery and clean cabins and big tent pads in the tent sites. We booked a cabin and a tent site for a recent family vacation and it was lovely. We visited the Champoeg visitor center and I loved the heritage garden. Highly recommended for a quick getaway.
absolutely beautiful and peaceful. you can have fun out there alone or with a big or small group. We love to do bible studies and church camping trips out here. I’ll do a day pass where I just take my kayak to the dock and just launch off and kayak all day. have seen so much wildlife out there it’s breathtaking. there are hiking trails, bike trails. a small stage to do performances, and much much more.
this is mor like glamping. they have showers and restrooms. and most sites have electricity and water. it’s very convenient and if you need to go to town it’s about 15-20 Minuets away. they have a nice dock where you can launch you kayaks and any water gear. make sure to bring sunscreen and water shoes if you decide to walk on the dock, it’s is scolding hot. They tell you there is no swimming but there is spots where you can go in and swim. just watch out for the current. We do a yearly trip here and stay for a full week. it’s the best!
No thank you. Not impressed with the campground or the water.
This park has a great interpretive center, rangers, and trails. This is one of the closer State parks to the Salem-Keizer area. Worth the drive.
This campground is a wonderful escape for someone who is not wanting to travel too far from the urban areas like Salem-Keizer. It is a quiet campground with a designated Dog area, beautiful cabins, trails, and an interpretive museum. The cabins are covered with stink bugs at certain points of the year, be forewarned.
Champoeg is a great family friendly campground. It is a great place to camp, if you need something close by. There is also access to a boat dock with a 72 hour docking limit. (but there is no boat launch).
This campground isn't my go to for a regular camping trip, however it's a great place to get from the city on my bike easily. The hiker biker site is top notch and provides plenty of distance from the main campground.
The settings are beautiful and highly recommend the trails that connect to the park. Walking along the river is a treat.
I stayed in the 1 of 5 tent spaces. They were a bit close to the other sites, but still large enough for a few tents if needed. There was only 1 parking lot for the tent/cabin spaces, so had to carry all my stuff about 100 feet. The bathrooms were clean and well lit at night. The bike paths through the campground/park were great and lots of people were using them all day. I walked the path around the entire park, which took me about 3 hours. Along the way got to see the Champoeg Heritage site with period piece actors, wide open spaces, and the Willamette River. There was a huge playground for the kids. There was also a large field area for dogs to roam around, just no fence. For being so close to the greater Portland area it felt like we were much further away. I would recommend this place, just make reservations early.
Not very good access to the river here, not the place to try and cool down, but a lot to see and do anyway. The farmhouse fascinated my boys... they got to water the garden with a water pump and buckets!
We visited during the off season, so it was quite quiet. There were several rustic but comfortable cabins, and an interesting display of the history of the area.
Old little pioneer town. Has yurts and lots of hiking. Pet-friendly.
This is one of our favorite campgrounds as there is so much to do! We have been turned away a time or two because we didn't have dates when we were going to be there so we took a chance, this place is so busy........Make Reservations!!!
I am going to try staying here again in the winter, the sites are small and close enough together that in peak summer season it’s pretty darn noisy, the joyful din of summer break.
Lots of trees around the tent sites so there is a lot of shade which is nice. Shorter driveways though so not a lot of room for extra cars. The ADA accessible spots are great, paverstones under the picnic areas and such; very nice.
If you like disc golf this is definitely the place to go, huge sprawling shaded course is very inviting and everyone who was playing looked like they were having a good time. Great destination for lazy bike rides, miles of paved low incline trails. Plus as well, they have a bike tools available as well, a work station for light repairs.
Full service campgrounds, yurt sites have more space around ‘em so it may be a better option for in the future.
Good river and fishing access, lots of low-key trails to explore. Dogs are welcome on leash and there is a designated area for them to romp too.
Beautiful area and easy access to restrooms and showers
Champoeg State Heritage Area is a great place to visit for camping, biking, and especially if you're excited about Oregon history. There's tons to do including a museum, a monument to where Oregon was founded, and the Butteville Store is located a 3-mile hike away (the oldest continuously operating store in all of Oregon…it has great ice cream!). The camp sites aren't anything special. But the bathrooms are clean, there's a small but fun newer natural playground, and lots and lots of fields and woods to explore. Oh, and it's on a river! Probably the best part is how close it is to Portland. About a half hour drive and you're off camping!
We had a great time at a vintage trailer rally at Champoeg State Park. Super-close to Portland, with great facilities, a dock, good sized camp sites and even a cool museum. Definitely worth a trip. The small town of Aurora, Oregon, is across the freeway and worth a stop if you're into ice cream or antiques. Campground also includes cabins, yurts, and if you really want to save money--it's just $5 if you come by bike.
Beautiful place! Nice RV spots, electric and water (rv dump station separate). Disc golf course, hiking, biking trails, shower facility, picnic tables, bike air up station, museum (we never got to), gift store, and close to the Willamette for fishing. We all agreed we could have stayed a week! Will definitely come back here! We rate this one 8.5 to 9.
Do you want to; Tent, RV, Cabin or Yurt camp? Well this place is for you. Small campground overall however it is very much a place to camp! Located at the historic Champoeg State park there are a number of buildings and preserves that are dedicated to the history of the fur trading of the era. From Frisbee golf courses to numerous hiking trails, horseshoe pits, museums and festivals galore! Camping alongside the Willamette River allows you to canoe, kayak, paddleboard, water ski / wakeboard, or any other boating sports. Fishing is alright- not the best I have fished here but they are out there. Clean bathrooms, "public" dock, great site layouts, close by to portland and surrounding suburb areas- go Wine Tasting one day and then sleep in the various oak groves under the stars. EXCELLENT location to get a taste of Portland without getting city.
