LOVE this campground! I could spend a month on the beach all day every day and not be done with it! Playground, close to stores and heritage/tourist sites.
My parents used to bring me here often (we were camping here the day Mt St Helens blew), and now I bring mine!
The grounds are beautiful and well kept, and of course… CRATER LAKE. But you're nowhere near the lake and it's a hike/drive to do ANYTHING. I'd recommend the lodge if your heart is set on staying at Crater Lake, or any of the campgrounds at nearby Diamond Lake.
On the plus side, it is very quiet and peaceful.
Not very good access to the river here, not the place to try and cool down, but a lot to see and do anyway. The farmhouse fascinated my boys… they got to water the garden with a water pump and buckets!
Great campground, hidden from the ocean winds but just a short walk onto the beach. We had the river right behind the site, and it was so peaceful! Right at the beach, close to Newport and TONS of stuff to do there. Very relaxing atmosphere.
Seriously beautiful! We were in a tent, and I would recommend a trailer/camper if you have a waterfront spot like this one, as it gets very windy on this side of the lake in the afternoons, and extremely cold at night, even in the middle of summer.
This place has everything you could need. It's a 5 minute drive to the visitors center at majestic Crater Lake. Want to hike up to a mountain peak? The trailheads to both Mt Thielsen and Mt Bailey begin here. There is an 11-mile loop around Diamond Lake perfect for hiking or biking. The campground has a lodge/resort with a restaurant and a (lake) swimming area, water sports and amusements, and boats etc to rent for fun on the water. They also have a restaurant/store/laundromat at the other end of the campground. The only thing I'd add is a few small playgrounds scattered around.
Definitely a destination campground, not one to just pass through.
I loved this campground! Park managers were friendly and knowledgeable about the area's rich heritage. It's centrally located to many great adventures, and really easy to find. I have to admit that the road noise got to us… it's right off I-84 and the traffic does NOT let up in the summer… but some earplugs were a good solution for my husband.
We had a blast here!
