What you should know
Limited cell service: Connectivity is spotty throughout the region. "No cell service with Verizon at this park," mentions Andrea F. about Mohican State Park Campground.
Different camping areas: Malabar Farm State Park Campground offers primitive sites with some limitations. "This campground is all non electric. We did run our generator during that day but kept it off at night so we didn't disturb other campers. Only 15 sites and most are very sloped but we had site 3 and it was okay," advises Andrea F.
Horse campgrounds near Wakeman, Ohio: While some sites accommodate horses, dedicated corrals aren't always available. At the primitive horse camping areas, high lines for securing horses are typically provided rather than enclosed corrals.
Tips for camping with families
Kid-friendly activities: Ashland Fairgrounds provides convenient overnight camping. "Ashland fairgrounds has $20 tent sites or $35 full hookups. You may need an extension cord. All back in sites. Bathrooms are open and close by," notes Charles K.
Easy first-time camping: Mohican State Park offers beginner-friendly options. "As far as tent camping goes, it does not get any easier than this. Everything is clean and well organized. Perfect for first time campers," according to Jenny K.
Educational opportunities: Malabar Farm combines camping with learning. "Louis Bromfield was a conservationist and among many other things (including winning a Pulitzer) he was in the forefront of organic and self-sustaining gardening. This place is amazing! (and would be an excellent home schoolers camping trip!)," suggests Shelly S.
Tips from RVers
Hookup availability: Pleasant Hill Lake Park offers varying levels of connections. "We stayed on site 304 which was electric only by choice and when we return we will opt for full hook up since those sites look brand new," shares Korinne K.
Off-season considerations: RVers should note winter camping limitations. "This particular park has potable water on by the dump station and the dump station is open. The water at the full hook up sites are turned off," explains Andrea F. about Mohican State Park during colder months.
Site selection for equestrians: When seeking horse campgrounds near Wakeman, Ohio, book primitive horse campsites well in advance. Most equestrian sites fill quickly during peak season and may have limited amenities compared to standard RV areas.
