Best Dispersed Camping near Lore City, OH
Wayne National Forest offers primitive dispersed camping near Lore City at Wildcat Hollow Hiking Trail, located about 30 miles from Lore City in Corning. The free camping area features established sites along hiking trails with stone fire rings but no amenities beyond a pit toilet at the trailhead. Campers must pack in all supplies including water, as local water sources are not recommended for filtration due to nearby oil drilling operations.
The trail system includes a shorter 5-mile loop and a longer 15-mile loop with campsites scattered throughout. According to one visitor, "If you're just looking for a quick campsite then pull up to the trailhead and you can find several within the first mile of the trail. Otherwise, the good sites are miles in." Trail conditions frequently become muddy after rainfall, making hiking challenging. A camper noted, "The trail can be very wet and muddy in the spring or after any rains, so be prepared for that." Fires are permitted except during high fire danger periods, and pets must be kept on 6-foot leashes.
