Cabin accommodations in the Sherrills Ford region provide rustic overnight lodging with varying amenities. Lake Norman State Park Campground offers cabin rentals with clean, comfortable accommodations, including air conditioning and modern beds. The park's glamping cabins feature electricity and comfortable sleeping arrangements. "We stayed in the new glamping cabin #2. Very clean, comfortable bed, nice AC, lovely porch to relax on. All cabins are in walking distance to the bathrooms and showers," noted one visitor. Lake Norman Motor Coach Resort and Midway Campground Resort also provide cabin options with lake access.

Rustic and deluxe cabins are both available, depending on the location. Lake Norman State Park's cabins require advance reservations, especially during summer months when demand peaks. Advance preparation is recommended as cabin kitchens typically have limited cookware and utensils, particularly at the more rustic accommodations.

    Statesville RV Park I-77

    Right off of Interstate

This KOA is RIGHT off of the interstate. If you are in midtravel and need a place to overnight this is a nice KOA for that. The camping cabins are cozy, we stayed in a single which has 1 dbl bed and twin sized bunk bed. Staff was very friendly. I wouldn't consider this a camping destination.

    Lake Norman State Park Campground

    Fantastic quiet get away

We stayed in the new glamping cabin #2. Very clean, comfortable bed, nice AC, lovely porch to relax on. All cabins are in walking distance to the bathrooms and showers. Those as well were pretty clean for a camp ground, I was pleasantly surprised. The path to the bathrooms light up at night so you can find your way very easy in the dark. Camp ground itself was very clean and I often saw the staff working on cleaning it and interacting with the campers. The designated swimming area was like a piece of heaven. Small not to overly packed, very clean beach. We plan on coming pack to do tent camping with our dog, fantastic family or romantic couple retreat.

    Charlotte-Fort Mill KOA

Great for trip to Charlotte NC

We came here to do some trailer maintenance and because it is very close to home. We were not expecting it to be a great camping experience, but we’re pleasantly surprised! The staff were extremely helpful and friendly, the campsites were clean, and the bath houses were newly updated and immaculate. The roads in the section we stayed in were a bit rough (a combination of asphalt and gravel), but perfectly fine for camping. Most of the sites have good shade, but unfortunately our site was in full sun. Our site had full hookups, and a picnic table that was pretty rickety. No fire ring. The sites are very close together, and most are back to back sharing a driveway. Personally we prefer a more secluded camping spot, but this KOA is perfect for an overnight on your way to another location, a trip to nearby Charlotte, or like us, utilizing the full hookups for some waterline maintenance.

    Thousand Trails Forest Lake

    Convenient to Highway 64

Great place to spend some time. People and pet friendly. Adult and under 18 pools open seasonably. Gated and campers are given individual codes to get in after hours. Only negative is that they were working on remodeling their activity center. So, evening functions were limited.

    Lake Norman State Park Campground

    Such an amazing campground

I camped here with a friend and our dogs. We were in campsite 14. It was very shaded and surrounded by woods. The tent pad was super spacious and made of gravel. There was also a picnic bench, fire pit, and a lantern pole. The campground also has beautiful little cabins. The bathouse was absolutely top notch and super clean. The park staff takes very good care of the area. Unfortunately there are some little beaches along the trails that have trash, mostly from fishing. The park offers some very nice hiking trails. This time I just did the Lakeshore trail and the dogs had a blast. We would camp here anytime again.

    Self Sufficient Holler

    A floating castle among fireflies!

What a magical experience floating in the trees surrounded by fire flies! Elizabeth and Mark were exceptional hosts. There is so much to do on property, and they are working on more! Their love for the land really shines through their work here.

The suspended tree tent feels like a bouncy tree house. We came during some spats of rain, and the rain fly kept us dry without any problems. The lower level serves as a great "garage" for all your gear. You climb up to the top level through the middle of the tent- we felt like kids again. So much fun!

Elizabeth has thought of EVERYTHING when it comes to her property! Not only do you have a fully equipped camp kitchen and fire pit, but there is also a rocket stove in the earth next to the pit. This is a wet area, but the rocket stove will give you a fire no matter what. The counter with the Colman stove served as a wonderful place to prep our meals.

There is also a full bathroom with a solar shower- super clean and well maintained! Elizabeth has put a ton of work into making trails that meander through the property, perfect for a stroll- or to go hang out in the community area by the stream. We were able to use fresh tomatoes and herbs from the garden for our meal, and then do our dishes by the water pump! Elizabeth walked us through how to use the pump- easy as pie!

There are hidden surprises in every nook and cranny. Tiny fairy gardens and hammocks, and variegated plants! Elizabeth even has a rock painting kit at the campsite :)

    Lake Norman State Park Campground

    Excellent campground

I am curious about why the listing states that the campground is closed. I am writing this from my campsite in the campground! It closes on Christmas day, but as far as I know, that is the only day of the year when it closes.

The campground is in a forest on the shores of Lake Norman. Well maintained hiking trails branch out from the campground. RV sites are paved, with a picnic table and fire ring on a compacted gravel base next to each site.

Sites and facilities are very well maintained. I made an off-hand comment to a staff member about drainage at our site, and the next time we visited, the problem had been satisfactorily addressed.

    Charlotte-Fort Mill KOA

    First time at a KOA

Stopped here for an overnight on our way south. We had a pull-thru full hookup site. It was relatively level but not perfect. Main bath house was under construction and not available. There is a bar, convenience store, and RV service center at the entrance which is convenient. We didn’t have time to look around the campground much but it served it’s purpose for us. Oh, there are no fire rings but it claims on their site that you can build one in the gravel. We didn’t see a single other site with a fire.

    Thousand Trails Forest Lake

    Decent Stay

We stayed with family and reserved a cabin. Our two family members reserved two RV sites.

The cabins were wonderful and I would highly recommend them BUT... there is no late check in, and we were not warned of that at all, so when we got in at 10pm no key was left for us to get into our cabin. We had to spend the night in my dad's RV on one of the foldouts- if he wasnt there; who knows where we would have stayed.

I do not really recommend the RV sites, I didnt like the way they had the waste lines set up, and i kept smelling raw sewage.

Once we were IN our cabin, I must say- it was one of the nicest cabins out there and the whole family hung out with is at our cabin site since it had more privacy, didnt have a sewage smell and then was right next to the lake/pond. We also rented a canoe and had fun canoeing around the pond/lake

Guide to Sherrills Ford

Cabin accommodations near Sherrills Ford, North Carolina offer both year-round and seasonal options for visitors. Located along Lake Norman, many rentals provide direct lake access with sites often spaced among wooded areas. The region experiences distinct seasons with summer temperatures regularly reaching the upper 80s and winter lows in the 30s, affecting both availability and preparation needs for overnight stays.

What to do

Fishing at multiple access points: Lake Norman State Park Campground provides fishing opportunities with proper licensing. "I fished, rode bikes, hiked and saw plenty of wildlife. Not too close to the neighbors, and the camp host were nice," reports Caleb S., highlighting the variety of activities available without leaving the park grounds.

Mini golf and recreational activities: Midway Campground Resort offers on-site mini golf and additional recreational facilities. "We played mini golf, had a view of the lake, and enjoyed a great campfire on our little porch they provided," shares Morgan L., describing a first camping experience in a new camper.

Wildlife viewing in natural settings: The regional parks offer opportunities to observe deer and other wildlife. "Very clean and quite and very close to Charlotte. Nice, moderate hiking trails. Swimming and kayaking. You'll probably see deer but have never seen a bear," notes Fletcher S. about Lake Norman State Park.

What campers like

Private bathrooms and updated facilities: Lake Norman State Park Campground receives consistently positive feedback for cleanliness. "I have camped all across the US and this was the nicest and cleanest campground I have ever been in. Fantastic experience," wrote Andrew G. in December 2024.

Proximity to water activities: Cabins positioned near lakes allow for multiple water-based recreation options. "The park is huge and right at the lake. We stayed only one night. A lot of young families were here with their bikes," according to Birgit H., describing a Thanksgiving weekend stay.

Convenient access to local attractions: Carowinds Camp Wilderness Resort offers shuttle service to nearby destinations. "You can purchase Carowinds tickets right here and ride a shuttle all day long to the park rather than fight traffic," notes Nate G., emphasizing the transportation convenience.

What you should know

Seasonal closure limitations: Some facilities operate with reduced amenities during off-season. "The pools are closed for season, the activity room is closed due to Covid, and you can't rent any equipment for putt putt golf, tennis, or basketball right now. However, you may bring your own," explains Kasey M. about Thousand Trails Green Mountain.

Road noise considerations: Some cabin locations experience traffic noise. "When you stay at a campground with close, easy access to the Interstate, you can expect to hear it," points out Ralph C. about Statesville RV Park I-77, addressing noise complaints.

Maintenance variations between sites: Upkeep standards vary significantly between locations. "I stayed at this location for 10 days. The campground is well kept and clean. The staff and the camp host were very courteous. It was a very quiet stay. The bathhouse was new and well maintained," reports Robert D. about Lake Norman State Park.

Tips for camping with families

Kid-friendly facilities: Dan Nicholas Park provides multiple child-oriented attractions. "This place is the best places for families to camp. There is a beautiful zoo, gem mining, a train ride, amazing fishing, a beautiful playground, and a carousel," shares Lisa L., describing the comprehensive children's activities.

Large gathering spaces: Several locations accommodate extended family stays. "The park staff takes very good care of the area. We walked the RV sites and spotted several that were also very nice as well. They each seemed to offer a decent bit of privacy, which is nice," notes Julie L. from her experience at another regional campground.

Activity planning based on weather: Summer visits require different preparation than spring or fall. "Bathhouses are in very poor shape. There appears to be suspect, microbial growth all over the men's side. The bath houses also aren't cleaned on a regular basis," cautions Robert D., suggesting visitors check facility conditions seasonally.

Tips from RVers

Site leveling challenges: Statesville RV Park I-77 requires attention to leveling equipment. "Site was not even close to level. Recent blacktop not properly compressed. Had to use Anderson leveling buckets only on front of motorhome to level," warns Gary R., indicating preparation needs for RV campers.

Space constraints for larger vehicles: Maneuvering limitations exist at several campgrounds. "The sites are fine for a quick overnight, right off the highway," states Kevin H., suggesting the location works better for brief stays than extended camping with large equipment.

Hook-up availability varies: Not all sites offer full connections. "We were able to get our 37 ft camper level. Shaded so the a/c's were able to keep up with the heat no issue," reports Sarah B. from Dan Nicholas Park, highlighting the importance of understanding specific site capabilities.
