Best Cabin Camping near Lowville, NY

Cedar Creek Cabin and Old Forge Camping Resort provide rustic cabin accommodations near Lowville with varying amenity levels. Cedar Creek cabins offer electricity and water access with proximity to ATV trails, while Old Forge cabins feature sandy sites and lake access. Full hookup options with sewer connections are available at select locations. Bathrooms and shower facilities vary by location, with some cabins including private facilities while others rely on communal campground restrooms. "We rent the cabin and go to the park every year. Make sure you bring an air mattress! You can rent kayaks and paddle boats for like $6 dollars."

Rustic log cabins dominate the region's offerings, with options ranging from basic one-room structures to more spacious multi-room accommodations. Most campgrounds require advanced reservations, particularly during peak summer months and fall foliage season. HTR Adirondacks and Natural Bridge/Watertown KOA maintain cabin rentals with varying pet policies—some prohibit pets entirely while others welcome them with additional fees. According to one visitor at Natural Bridge KOA, "The sites are small, but there are mature trees between them and woodsy areas around the campsites. The campground is clean and well kept."

Cabin furnishings typically include basic beds and seating, though linens and pillows are rarely provided. Visitors should plan to bring bedding, towels, and cooking supplies. Kitchen facilities range from simple fire rings with picnic tables to more equipped cabins with mini-refrigerators and microwaves. Most locations sell firewood on-site, eliminating the need to transport it. Camp stores at Old Forge and Natural Bridge/Watertown KOA stock essential groceries, though selection is limited to basics. Drinking water is available at most cabin sites, but water quality varies; one camper noted high chlorine content at HTR Adirondacks, advising visitors to bring bottled water.

    Old Forge Camping Resort

    Old Forge Camping Resort, NY

My family and I have been visiting Old Forge Camping Resort for 20+ years. This is one of the most family friendly resorts and a perfect weekend getaway for those living in other parts of New York State. The visitors/welcome center has everything you need, including firewood, sweatshirts and homemade breakfast sandwiches. There is endless RV camping, tent camping, cabins and cottages available. Make sure you book far enough in advance. We typically book 1 year prior for the cottages.

The bathrooms and grounds are well maintained and accessible from wherever you are in the park. There are hiking, biking and running trails galore. A volleyball court, playground and even a lake to fish or rent paddle boards. There is a bus from the campground that takes you to enchanted forest safari, which is a great way to avoid parking. Would recommend 100%

    Wellesley Island State Park Campground

    Fine camping 1000 islands

NYS may get tons of flack for its politics and politicians. However they're doing it all correct in their state parks. This park is amazing. The views of the ST. LAWRENCE River are amazing. You're around some of the best fishing in the country. We'll. Manicured campground. It's huge by the way. Tons of playgrounds and swimming. Always clean everything. Always friendly staff and campers. Inexpensive I mean really inexpensive. You're 10 min from Alexandria Bay. Boldt castle, singer castle, you can go on river cruises and view these beautiful islands and homes on them. Watch the cargo ships cruise the channel. Electric and water on many sites. Cottages cabins and primitive sites available. Hiking trails all over the park. There's a marina, boat launch and boat rentals. Docking. You can even day trip it use public grills and still enjoy everything the park has to offer. We have so much fun here. It's hard to pack and go home.

    Ta-Ga-Soke Campgrounds

    Overall good experience

The site was good size and included a picnic table and a fire ring. Site however was very close to other sites and not very private. had to pay with quarters to shower not a problem but inconvenient. Site was very close to water and boat launch and that was great.

    Southwick Beach State Park Campground

Great part with tons of beach

There is TONS of beach to explore at this little State Park in New York. I used to visit here as a kid years ago because my grandparents owned a cottage on the lake. Since they sold it, visiting Southwick is the next best thing. Lake Ontario is an amazing lake to be on and the water is pretty warm in the summer time. the waves don't get too big, so it is very safe for kids. Southwick itself has great camping spots right next to the beach. It is a little pricey if you only want to visit for the day, $8, but you can get a tent spot for $18 which is comparable to other state parks. Showers are available, and there are some short trails that are good for running or probably cross country skiing in the winter. There is also a sizable playground near the beach that is great for the kids.

Guide to Lowville

Cabin accommodations near Lowville provide outdoor access to the western Adirondack region. Located in Lewis County at approximately 1,150 feet elevation, this area experiences cold, snowy winters with summer temperatures typically ranging from 55-80°F. Several campgrounds maintain year-round or extended season cabins, allowing access to seasonal outdoor activities.

What to Do

Snowmobile trails access: Cedar Creek Cabin offers direct ATV and snowmobile trail access. "Never been up here before, a friend found this place for our lil group. They currently have 4 sites and a cabin, 30 amp electric, water to fill your tank, and a dump station. But like I said the best part is the riding and close to several local bar/restaurants that have good food and good folks," notes a Cedar Creek visitor.

Paddling opportunities: Old Forge Camping Resort features lake access for water activities. "We stayed at the Old Forge Camping resort during the Moosefest. The campground is close to a lot of paddling opportunities and even has a small lake in the campground," writes Rachel B.

Winter recreation: Winter cabins serve as bases for cold-weather activities. "Close to skiing. Snowmobiling is the real reason to come here. Dry cabins or cottages with bath and shower are available. Snowmobile trails are accessible from the campground and seasonal rentals are available," explains a winter visitor.

What Campers Like

Wildlife viewing: Natural Bridge/Watertown KOA provides wooded sites with natural screening. "The sites are small, but there are mature trees between them & woodsy areas around the campsites. The campground is clean and well kept," reports Liz M.

Swimming areas: Some cabin properties include swimming access. "It has a pretty little pond for swimming and paddle boats a short hiking trail around the pond and the staff were all very friendly," describes one visitor about the recreational amenities.

Winter amenities: Winter cabin rentals include additional services. "The staff will help you with snow removal and we have even had Valentine Weekend with chocolates and Champagne delivered to our cabin," notes a seasonal visitor.

What You Should Know

Reservation timing: Wellesley Island State Park Campground requires advance booking. "We usually get 2 sites and place as many as 5 tents between the 2 sites! The park is very large, you can get in a few miles for a run or bike ride! Great price for camping!" advises Amanda H.

Varied site sizes: Site dimensions vary significantly between campgrounds. "Nice campground, but a little cramped, and wasn't a fan of the sandy sites but we did love the area, and the really enjoyed the campground overall," reports one camper.

Cell service limitations: Cell coverage varies by location. "There are water spigots around the loop to fill up your fresh tank before setting your jacks. Large open sites with not much shade but it is the only loop that gets US Verizon service," notes a visitor.

Tips for Camping with Families

Camp store supplies: Kayuta Lake Campground and Marina offers family activities. "My five year old, husband, and Dad all signed up for laser tag. They had such an awesome time! That certainly is a fabulous amenity. It is $10 per person but so worth it," writes Erin M.

Seasonal activities: Halloween events run during summer. "We were there in late October on a Saturday night when they were having a big Halloween festival, so very crowded but festive environment," reports Marc D.

Park amenities: Check for pool availability and condition. "Very nice quiet campground. Bathrooms are a little old but very clean. Had fun shooting archery targets. They also have lazer tag but we didn't participate," notes Jason D.

Tips from RVers

Site navigation challenges: Beaver Camp and other locations require careful maneuvering. "The roadways can get a little tight between the trees, and can make for some interesting backing in. Also, the roadways are mostly one-way, which can make getting creative with your trailer landing position tough," warns an experienced camper.

Electrical reliability: Power capacity varies by campground. "We kept blowing the breaker and noted our lights flickering. We can easily run on 30amp. This is typical of an overbuilt park with not enough power for the campers onsite," reports one RV owner.

Water supply considerations: Water access varies across locations. "They offer regular camping sites and RV sites, they also have a dog park for the little furry ones. It is easy to get to and several forms of outdoor entertainment," notes a visitor at Fort Drum Recreation Area.
