Cabin accommodations near Lowville provide outdoor access to the western Adirondack region. Located in Lewis County at approximately 1,150 feet elevation, this area experiences cold, snowy winters with summer temperatures typically ranging from 55-80°F. Several campgrounds maintain year-round or extended season cabins, allowing access to seasonal outdoor activities.
What to Do
Snowmobile trails access: Cedar Creek Cabin offers direct ATV and snowmobile trail access. "Never been up here before, a friend found this place for our lil group. They currently have 4 sites and a cabin, 30 amp electric, water to fill your tank, and a dump station. But like I said the best part is the riding and close to several local bar/restaurants that have good food and good folks," notes a Cedar Creek visitor.
Paddling opportunities: Old Forge Camping Resort features lake access for water activities. "We stayed at the Old Forge Camping resort during the Moosefest. The campground is close to a lot of paddling opportunities and even has a small lake in the campground," writes Rachel B.
Winter recreation: Winter cabins serve as bases for cold-weather activities. "Close to skiing. Snowmobiling is the real reason to come here. Dry cabins or cottages with bath and shower are available. Snowmobile trails are accessible from the campground and seasonal rentals are available," explains a winter visitor.
What Campers Like
Wildlife viewing: Natural Bridge/Watertown KOA provides wooded sites with natural screening. "The sites are small, but there are mature trees between them & woodsy areas around the campsites. The campground is clean and well kept," reports Liz M.
Swimming areas: Some cabin properties include swimming access. "It has a pretty little pond for swimming and paddle boats a short hiking trail around the pond and the staff were all very friendly," describes one visitor about the recreational amenities.
Winter amenities: Winter cabin rentals include additional services. "The staff will help you with snow removal and we have even had Valentine Weekend with chocolates and Champagne delivered to our cabin," notes a seasonal visitor.
What You Should Know
Reservation timing: Wellesley Island State Park Campground requires advance booking. "We usually get 2 sites and place as many as 5 tents between the 2 sites! The park is very large, you can get in a few miles for a run or bike ride! Great price for camping!" advises Amanda H.
Varied site sizes: Site dimensions vary significantly between campgrounds. "Nice campground, but a little cramped, and wasn't a fan of the sandy sites but we did love the area, and the really enjoyed the campground overall," reports one camper.
Cell service limitations: Cell coverage varies by location. "There are water spigots around the loop to fill up your fresh tank before setting your jacks. Large open sites with not much shade but it is the only loop that gets US Verizon service," notes a visitor.
Tips for Camping with Families
Camp store supplies: Kayuta Lake Campground and Marina offers family activities. "My five year old, husband, and Dad all signed up for laser tag. They had such an awesome time! That certainly is a fabulous amenity. It is $10 per person but so worth it," writes Erin M.
Seasonal activities: Halloween events run during summer. "We were there in late October on a Saturday night when they were having a big Halloween festival, so very crowded but festive environment," reports Marc D.
Park amenities: Check for pool availability and condition. "Very nice quiet campground. Bathrooms are a little old but very clean. Had fun shooting archery targets. They also have lazer tag but we didn't participate," notes Jason D.
Tips from RVers
Site navigation challenges: Beaver Camp and other locations require careful maneuvering. "The roadways can get a little tight between the trees, and can make for some interesting backing in. Also, the roadways are mostly one-way, which can make getting creative with your trailer landing position tough," warns an experienced camper.
Electrical reliability: Power capacity varies by campground. "We kept blowing the breaker and noted our lights flickering. We can easily run on 30amp. This is typical of an overbuilt park with not enough power for the campers onsite," reports one RV owner.
Water supply considerations: Water access varies across locations. "They offer regular camping sites and RV sites, they also have a dog park for the little furry ones. It is easy to get to and several forms of outdoor entertainment," notes a visitor at Fort Drum Recreation Area.
