The sound of wind through ponderosa pines marks this Forest Service campground set within forested terrain near a lake in Cibola National Forest. Ojo Redondo operates seasonally from May to mid-September and accommodates RVs up to 22 feet with basic amenities including vault toilets and picnic tables. Campers must bring their own water, as no potable water is available on-site.
The campground provides shaded sites among the trees with access to hiking trails and nearby swimming holes featuring waterfalls. A scenic drive offers views for those preferring road-based exploration over extensive hiking. The simple layout works well for campers comfortable with primitive conditions, though privacy between sites becomes limited when the campground fills during peak periods. Dog-friendly policies make this a suitable base for exploring the broader campgrounds around Cibola National Forest.
Description
This campground is located southwest of Mt. Sedgwick, the highest peak in the Zuni Mountains. It is situated in ponderosa pine, douglas fir, and aspen trees, with a scenic meadow adjacent to the campground. Be advised of road conditions due to elevation and precipitation.
