Hiking, fishing, and fall foliage trips into the White Mountains all make practical use of Ammonoosuc Campground as a base, with trailheads for routes ranging from family-friendly Sugarloaf walks to the 4,000-footers along Franconia Ridge within easy reach. The Ammonoosuc River runs nearby, and Lucas calls it a "perfect area for fishing on the river." The Cog Railway is just a few miles down the road, and a general store is walkable from the campground.
Sites are wooded with dirt and pine needle ground cover, providing solid shade. Tent sites run long and narrow, opening to a wider pad area with a picnic table and fire ring, and small covered storage shelters on each site help keep gear dry during wet stretches. Seasonal sites take up a significant portion of the campground, so tent campers and short-term RV visitors share a smaller pool of available spots. Sites are close together, though fence panels between some of them add a measure of separation. The bathhouse draws consistent praise for cleanliness and hot showers, and a laundry room with four washers and dryers is on-site.
WiFi is available but works better near the bathhouse. Verizon users have reported two to three bars of 3G/4G coverage. Cell signal is worth factoring in if remote work or staying connected matters to your trip. Rates run $29 to $38 per night, with full hookups available for RVs up to 50 feet. The campground sits among several options in the area, including Tarry Ho Campground & Cottages and Along the River Campground, so booking ahead during peak summer and fall foliage weekends is advisable.
