Best Dog-Friendly Camping near Battle Mountain, NV

Clark Park's fenced dog park gives pet owners a spacious area for their canines to exercise while staying at this Battle Mountain campground. The RV park accommodates tents, recreational vehicles, and offers cabins for those traveling with pets. All sites feature gravel pads with full hookups including water, sewer, and electric connections. The dog run receives consistently positive feedback for its generous size, though some visitors note gaps under the fencing that smaller dogs might be able to slip through. Restrooms and shower facilities maintain excellent cleanliness standards, though showers require quarters ($1.50 for three minutes, additional quarters for extended time).

Mill Creek Recreation Area provides a pet-friendly alternative with more primitive camping options along a creek. Located approximately 4 miles from the main road, this free campground features pit toilets, picnic tables with cabanas, fire rings, and trash receptacles. The babbling stream creates a relaxing environment for campers and their four-legged companions. Sites accommodate tents and smaller RVs, though larger trailers may have difficulty navigating the area. No hookups are available at this location. Broadway Flying J RV Park represents another pet-friendly option in Battle Mountain, offering electric, water, and sewer hookups, but visitors report encountering numerous goat head thorns that can injure dogs' paws during walks, making proper footwear for pets advisable in this area.

    Mill Creek Recreation Area

    Secluded campground

Take 305 south from Battle Mountain 20 miles. You’ll see the Mill Creek Recreation Area sign and turn left/ East. When you get to the stop sign, turn right. A couple of miles further and you’ll veer right at the entrance to the park. There are a number of level campsites near the creek, with BBQ and fire pits. There are two bathrooms, one on each end of the park. We were here on a Thursday in November and only one other camper in the park. For dark sky enthusiasts, this place is awesome. No services.

    Perfect overnight

I love the ability to come in and pick a spot and pay in the morning. It was so easy and convenient especially being the closest place. Loved i didn’t have to get online or talk to anyone at an office. They are VERY organized with arrows, labels, and instructions. Highly recommend. And yes, everyone raves about the dog park but i don’t have pets but it was really big.

    Great night skies

Nice quiet location near Battle Mountain to rest for the night and enjoy really beautiful night sky. Our experience was very quiet with only three other people there. The creek is mostly dried out but provides a nice ambient noise. Really clean restrooms but not much else to do.

Close to Battle Mountain, easy to get to

As said before, 20 miles S of Battle Mountain, and about 3-4 miles off NV-305. I camped there June 21, with only 1 other tenter. More shade & a pit toilet on the up-side(east). Beautiful little creek flowing by to chill the drinks. AMAZING dark skies at night.

    Clark Park

Great Spot for an Overnight Stop

Perfect for a one night stay. I called when we were about an hour away and was told they had several spots available. The gentleman on the phone was really helpful and explained the self check-in process and the best location for utilizing the dog ‘park’.

Self check-in was both easy and convenient. They take cash, checks, and credit cards (additional fee for credit).

There are both pull-through ($40) and back in ($35) sites. The sites are gravel and offer plenty of space between neighbors. We did have to level our rig just a bit. All hook ups worked great.

The dog ‘park’ is actually a huge fenced in lot and was very handy giving our 3 Aussies room to stretch their legs.

There was a bit of road noise at night but it wasn’t enough to disturb sleep.

$35 for full hookups in a very clean RV park? Definitely worth it!

    New Frontier RV Park

    Convenient location

Right off Hwy 80. Quiet, spaces for very large rigs and a full service restaurant on site (Wingers) that has some vegan options. The dog park is all gravel and the pups didn’t like it too much.

    Clark Park

Super clean with fenced dog park

Not cheap - but worth the $40. Check in was easy. We arrived about 8pm so used the self service envelope... they even accept credit card (we paid cash) Very clean park, nice wide, long spaces - PLENTY long enough for our 40’ Super C and Jeep in tow... they had a HUGE fenced dog park. Would stay again in a heartbeat.

    Clark Park

    Cute spot

Please read fully so you know. It was definitely a cute spot. stopped here from our trip from Indiana going to California. THERE WAS SELF CHECK IN WHICH WAS SUPER Convenient because we got in at 1130 pm & checked out at 8 am. I do really like the spot, the electric worked fine. It was a VERY quiet spot. But there is a lot of people parked, but you don’t really see them. There’s some swings & a basketball hoop. I would probably stay again. Only downfalls, the dog park & the showers. The dark run is HUGE but it isn’t that secure, there’s spaces under the park which dogs can easily slide under. But it is a very big dog run. The showers, they do cost money which kinda sucks when you are paying for a spot. But I’m not mad about it. For the complaints about the staff, I had no problem with the man in the office, but boyfriend & I talked to him because he stopped us & he was very nice.

Guide to Battle Mountain

Battle Mountain camping options provide overnight accommodations in Nevada's high desert at 4,500 feet elevation. Summer temperatures range from 85-95°F during the day, dropping to 45-55°F at night. Winter conditions include below-freezing temperatures with occasional snow, making seasonal preparation essential for campers.

What to do

Explore water features: Mill Creek Recreation Area offers camping alongside a natural stream. "The creek is mostly dried out but provides a nice ambient noise," notes one visitor, while another mentions "a little babbling brook running behind the sites to whisper you to sleep."

Stargaze after dark: The Biohome Research Facility offers exceptional night sky viewing. "We brought a telescope with us, and we were able to see Saturn's rings, Jupiter, and multiple other planets. The Milky Way seemed brighter and more vibrant," reports one camper.

Wildlife watching: Water Canyon Recreation Area features diverse desert wildlife. "We saw all kinds of wildlife and it was very quiet up on the hill," mentions one visitor to the area, while another camper reports "we did get to see a fair amount of wildlife including marmots, turkeys, jackrabbits, and coyotes."

What campers like

Convenient overnight stops: New Frontier RV Park provides easy access for travelers. "We arrived around 8:30pm and there was still someone at the registration desk to check us in. You can make reservations online beforehand," writes one reviewer.

Clean facilities: Clark Park maintains well-kept amenities. "The showers were spacious and top notch clean," notes one visitor, while another mentions "the bathrooms were big & extremely clean."

Spacious sites: Water Canyon Recreation Area offers room between campsites. "It doesn't have a lot of spots but the spots are spaced out along the creek and it's so pretty," states a camper, while another notes "the sites have picnic tables and a firepit and grill area."

What you should know

Limited shade: Summer heat affects comfort at some locations. At Mill Creek, one camper observed: "This is a pretty little campground that was empty on a Friday night in mid July. Why? Because it's 100 degrees and the bushes/small trees barely provide any shade."

Seasonal considerations: Weather varies significantly throughout the year. "We stayed here in December and it was completely empty which made it a little eerie. There was snow on the ground so we stayed at a site closest to the entrance/exit in case it snowed more."

Pay showers: Clark Park requires quarters for shower facilities. "The two bathrooms were amazingly clean. However...YOU MUST PAY SEPARATELY TO USE SHOWER! 1.50 to start, and a quarter each additional minute," explains a reviewer.

Tips for camping with families

Dog-friendly options: Multiple dog friendly campgrounds near Battle Mountain accommodate pets with varying facilities. "The site we chose didn't have a GREAT spot for a tent so we set up on the concrete pad next to the picnic table," notes one Mill Creek visitor traveling with dogs.

Self-check-in convenience: Clark Park offers easy after-hours arrival. "Not cheap - but worth the $40. Check in was easy. We arrived about 8pm so used the self service envelope... they even accept credit card (we paid cash)."

Tips from RVers

Site leveling: Prepare for uneven terrain in some areas. "The sites are gravel and offer plenty of space between neighbors. We did have to level our rig just a bit," reports one RV camper at Clark Park.

Length considerations: Mill Creek can accommodate various vehicles. "Most sites have picnic tables, grill or fire pit. Several sites are big enough to get a big rig in if needed," notes an RVer, though another warns "larger trailers may have difficulty navigating the area."

Hookup access: Winnemucca RV Park provides full utility connections. "Very spacious sites. Pull-throughs are cement and back-ins are very level gravel and asphalt," reports a camper about this site within driving distance of Battle Mountain.
