    Great pizza.

Very friendly and helpful staff. The bathrooms & laundry room are clean,a little outdated. The pull through sites seem to be all gravel/stone. Our back in site had a patio, fire pit and nice patio furniture. Looked like a lot to do for the kids. The camp store is well stocked with RV supplies and parts. After driving all day, then doing laundry it was nice to get a pizza and relax.

    The Premium Sites are FANTASTIC

We stayed here overnight on our way out west, so we didn't have big expectations. We are fairly new to pulling a 5th wheel, so we wanted an easy pull-through site plus we wanted it to be paved. Well there are 2 premium sites - we stayed in site# 89. It was HEAVEN! Not only was it paved, but also had a huge patio with a table and Adirondack chairs, and a fire pit with additional seating. The site was situated such that our "good side" was facing the trees, away from the rest of the campground. We have a 43' 5th Wheel plus our truck, and there was plenty of space. That is the best setup we've had so far. We didn't have time to use any of the amenities, and are not traveling with kids, so I can't speak for how good it was in that regard.

    Duck Creek Recreation Area

    New Campground by Secluded Lake

This park is a beautiful lake. We saw white pelicans and blue herons on this visit but it is not uncommon to see hawks, owls, and eagles in the area. This is a new park dedicated this year by the Nemaha NRD: sort of a multi-county natural resource agency found exclusively in Nebraska.

The picnic tables, vault toilets, paved walking trails, playground equipment are all new and well laid out. Gravel slabs with electrical hookup are only $12 a night but that is deceiving because you need to purchase a $5 day pass or $15 annual pass to come to the park. Yet even the some of the primitive sites have slabs for a pop-up and did not appear to cost anything beyond your vehicle pass.

The lake is too small for any boat with more than a trolling motor (there is a boat ramp) and should be outstanding for a kayak or canoe. Fishing should be great here. Paved trail and wide gravel slabs with raised fire pits should make this a great rustic getaway for handicapped campers. There is even a paved path to the end of a jetty of fishing in the lake.

This park is close to the Steamboat Trace Hiking/Biking Trail which is a 26-mile trail following the bluffs and coming within spitting distance of the Missouri River. Peru Nebraska is close, home of one of the oldest colleges this side of the Mississippi. Peru is also close for limited supplies such as Ice and band-aids. Auburn and Nebraska City are both about 10 miles away, Neb City has a Walmart.

I think this park is best for a quiet weekend getaway. I recommend you contact the NRD for an annual pass and take advantage of the other parks they operate. You could hike or Bike the Trace and tent camp for free!

    Platte River State Park Campground

    Winter Getaway

We stayed in the recently renovated Owen #4. The renovations really updated it and they need to update the pictures they have on the web, with what it looks like now. New appliances, new furniture, fixtures, new bunk beds, etc. The cabin was very clean and organized upon arrival. They supply most everything thing you need i.e. dishes, cookware, etc. The one thing it does need is a corkscrew! We forgot ours and went without the wine we brought for dinner. With that bombshell though, it was beyond worth the getaway. The winter hiking was fantastic and it was quiet except for the wildlife, but that is why we went out there!

    Camp A Way Campground

    Great one night traveling campground

Very clean. Helpful friendly staff. Huge, clean dog run shaded with locust trees. Best dog run we have seen this trip. Located 3 miles fromHistoric Haymarket in Lincolon. Clean laundry facilities. They also have large washer and dryer if you need to do bed covers. Camp store is pretty well stocked with food and camp gear. Looked like they had frozen pizza that they wood cook for you( didn't try it). Highly recommend if you need an overnight site with laundry and short drive for a few beers and good meal downtown. A little pricey but worth it. Stayed in pull thru site.

Nice stop on our way to Kansas

We needed an overnight stop on our way to Kansas and this KOA was perfect. We pulled in just after dark and there was a note on the door stating staff was limited due to Covid. We pulled into a very large pull through on the west side of the campground (site 16). The KOA was pretty full but everyone was respectful and we didn’t hear much noise. We had full hookups & the site we were in was spacious with a picnic table and fire ring with grate. It had rained quite a bit before we arrived so we didn’t sit outside, due to mud close by our site, but we had a nice view. The next morning, we paid at the office before we left & the Manager only charged us half price (we intended to pay the full price) because he felt bad for not being able to be on site when we arrived (the schedule on the KOA app said staffed until 7pm & we were there just after 6pm).

    Camp A Way Campground

    A great family park

So much for the kids to do. A fun pass is require and costa about $10 but kids get ice cream, Slushies, water balloons for water wars included with that plus access to trampoline basketball, a nice jump pad, pool, indoor hot tub, times water slide and timed barrel train ride. There’s basketball, fields to play in and gem mining for a fee. We splurged for their fanciest patio site and had a huge site. New patio furniture, a swing, camp fire, charcoal grill and full hook ups for less than $80 for the night.

Down sides - grass is dry - it’s summer - I’d rather everyone conserve on water than water the grass anyway so not such a down side - just noted. By a busy road and what looks like a highway support facility - but it’s super easy to get to and right off the highway… so it’s a plus and an obvious road noise kind of situation. We sleep thru everything so didn’t mind at all - just don’t expect it to be out in the middle of a field. Super close to Lincoln! We could see the city from the exit.

Guide to Bellevue

Glamping accommodations near Bellevue, Nebraska provide opportunities for outdoor recreation along the Missouri River and surrounding lakes. The terrain around Bellevue ranges from river bottomlands to higher elevation Loess Hills formations just across the Iowa border. Seasonal considerations affect availability, with most upscale camping sites operating April through October when temperatures typically range between 45-85°F.

What to do

Water activities on Lake Cunningham: The recently renovated Lake Cunningham Campground offers multiple non-motorized boating options. "The lake is right there, with a nice bike path that comes all the way around," notes Alana R., who camped there in June 2022.

Hiking in Loess Hills: Just 30 minutes from Bellevue, the unique soil formations at Hitchcock County Nature Center provide distinctive trail experiences. "The trails are well marked and easy to follow. I was very impressed on the hike in campsites," reports Aaron A., who visited the center's extensive trail system.

Fishing opportunities: Multiple locations offer varied fishing environments for glampers who want to add angling to their upscale outdoor experience. "Pony Creek is an old campground operated in Southwest Iowa. There is a pond in front of the park for fishing and a small playground," explains Matt S., describing one of the smaller fishing spots in the region.

What campers like

Spacious sites at Lake Cunningham: The newly developed camping areas feature modern amenities with room to spread out. "The sites have concrete pads with power, but no water or sewer. There is a fill station on the way in," explains Alana R., highlighting the practical layout of this Omaha-adjacent glamping location.

Family-friendly amenities: Camp A Way Campground in Lincoln offers extensive recreational options for families seeking glamping with entertainment. "This destination was so fun! Sites are shaded and spacious. Awesome playground, pool, water slide and more! Super cute place to stay with family," shares Samantha S., who visited in July 2020.

Clean facilities: Visitors consistently mention the well-maintained nature of premium glamping sites in the region. "The facilities are well maintained, the staff is friendly and helpful. Everything is nicely spread out on the grounds," notes Sandra O. about West Omaha KOA Holiday, emphasizing the attention to detail that glampers appreciate.

What you should know

Seasonal closures: Some glamping sites near Bellevue have experienced closures due to flooding. "This park is right off the Missouri river, and everytime there is flooding this place gets shelled. We had some major flooding here 2019," explains Tony B. about Haworth City Park, highlighting the importance of checking current status.

Highway noise: Premium sites near major transportation routes may experience traffic sounds. "The neighbors are close not much of your own space but there is a playground for the kids that's wonderful!" explains Megan E. about staying at West Omaha / NE Lincoln KOA Holiday, noting the tradeoff between convenience and noise.

Pricing variations: Costs for glamping accommodations vary significantly between facilities. "We stayed 2 nights and paid way too much in taxes and fees. It is NOT a flat rate of $30 for 30amps and $50 for 50amps. Then there's taxes that add up to an extra $10," cautions Victoria S. about one location, suggesting travelers confirm full pricing in advance.

Tips for camping with families

Park amenities for kids: Platte River State Park Campground offers multiple activity options beyond basic glamping. "This park offers a lot of nature activities. You can hike the many hiking trails to the mini waterfall, or Platte river. They have paddle boat and Kayak rentals. There is a splash park, shooting, archer ranges, horseback riding," explains Tony B.

Educational opportunities: Several glamping locations incorporate learning experiences for children. "The Nature education events, archery range, a handicapped accessible boardwalk trail, hiking trails, camping, etc. There are miles of trail available with backcountry camping available for $10 per night," notes Pat V. about Hitchcock Nature Center.

Swimming options: Several glamping sites include swimming facilities that appeal to families with children. "This campground had amazing staff, was clean, and had great amenities. The sites are very small however, and to do anything besides swim and play on the playground you need to drive," reports Rebekah S. about her West Omaha KOA Holiday experience.

Tips from RVers

Site selection considerations: At Cottonwood — Two Rivers SRA, location makes a difference in your glamping experience. "There's only one good campsite at this campground. It's more secluded and away from the rest. The others are pretty close to each other, I would recommend getting two campsites if you don't want neighbors," advises Jordan H.

Hookup variations: Different glamping sites offer varying levels of utility access. "Has electric hookups but no water hookups so bring your own water or make sure you fill your hold tank at the one water hydrant," explains Mandi T. about Weeping Water campground, highlighting the importance of knowing facilities before arrival.

Self-service check-in: Some locations offer simplified arrival processes for late check-ins. "Stopped late after a long 12 hour drive. I loved the simple self service process. We picked an open spot, paid, and parked," shares Abby W. about her experience at Hitchcock Nature Center.
