      Flathead National Forest, Montana

This is a free campground located 63 miles south of the town of Hungry Horse on the gravel East Side Reservoir Road #38. The campground is located at an elevation of 4,200 feet and is open from May 15 through November 30. Beaver Creek Campground is situated next to Spotted Bear River just off the Spotted Bear River Road #568. The 4 unit campground is set back from the road and the campsites are less than 100 feet to the river. The site is located in an old growth stand of trees. It is a moderate use site that usually has open campsites during the middle of the week. It often is used as a base for fishing in the summer and for the late season hunt in late October and November. For stock users, it is also used as trailhead parking when the Silvertip Trailhead at the end of Spotted Bear River Road 568 is closed from 5/15 through 6/30, and 9/1 through 11/30. Campsites can accommodate tents and trailers up to 32 feet in length. All campsites have tables and metal fire rings. There is an accessible vault toilet. There is no potable water, but water is available from the river and must be treated prior to consumption. Stock is allowed in the campground. There is a stock unloading ramp, hitchrails, and feed bunks that stock may be tied to. Weed Seed Free Feed is required on all national forest lands. There is no garbage service and visitors need to plan to Pack It In, and Pack It Out. There is a food storage order in effect on all national forest land that requires that human and stock food, garbage, and other attractants be kept unavailable to bears. Your stay may not exceed 14 days. This is a remote location and there is no cell phone service in the area. The closest public phone is located 10 miles west at the Spotted Bear Ranger Station. Phone, gas, and food are located 63 miles north in the town of Hungry Horse. Beaver Creek campsite

      Nice and quiet

We spent two nights at this campground. Campground was quiet even for being in a railroad town. Hardly heard any train noise. Bathrooms appeared to get cleaned everyday. Sites have electric to them. Campground person came through every morning and talked to use. The local sheriffs office went through multiple times. Most water spickets did not seem to work so had to haul water from the spicket behind the RV dump station. This campground has issues with gophers and gopher holes. One camper got kicked out after six weeks of not paying while we were there according to the campground attendant. Lot cheaper than getting a hotel room at the cheapest hotel in town. Will stay again when we visit family in town.

Pay sites and free dispersed area both

The 6 miles between where the pavement ends and when you reach the main paid camping area is so washboarded, I thought I was going to lose my mind. But we and our 26ft class c survived with no broken bits.

The main camping area is nice, but pricey in my opinion at $18/night. Each spot is along the water and comes with a nice flat pad to park on, fire pit, picnic table, and shade structure. There are pit toilets as well. No other amenities. We chose to keep going, mainly because $18 felt like too much money. The road is not so washboarded when you leave the campground, and we did ok driving around the lake for about a mile until we found one of the free dispersed sites. No amenities here, of course, other than some home made rock fire pits. Each spot is really private and segregated from the next spot.

The lake was nice and cool and refreshing to swim in when we arrived on a hot July day. No cell service here. The ATT phone had a bit of service, and with the cell booster was even able to stream. The Verizon phone had nothing. Lots of mosquitoes here, swarms of them at dusk when you’re trying to enjoy the beautiful sunset.

      Great free spot

Like others said, it is pack in pack out, but otherwise it is great. Bathroom is close and clean, being close to the water is nice, and 100% free. There’s also a campground not far away more inland that is free in the same park.

Good for a night or two

The campground was mostly empty on July 3rd & 4th. A pay ($25 a night) station is on the honor system. Bathrooms and showers are old but in working order. A few sketchy looking campers here that look like from the movies breaking bad. If you know what I mean. Good for a night or two only.

      Great for overnight stay

There are two loops on either side of a small creek, a dry side and a shaded grassy side. There is also a terrific dog park just down the road within walking distance. Great for an overnight and a great price.

      Nice and quiet

A very nice stopover. The park is well-kept. Hookups worked well. Spacious setup. Loved the walking trail at the top of the park. Grocery just down the street. Very quiet and dark at night. Very friendly host. Nice laundry. Good wifi, adequate cell coverage for Verizon and AT&T. Stayed several days to explore the area where the prairie meets the Rocky Mountains. Lots of dirt road, but wonderful views. Also visited the waterfowl area and Freezout Lake. Very Montana.

      Perfect for What We Needed

We happened upon this place later in the evening as we were traveling from Glacier National Park to Yellowstone. We were getting worried because it was getting dark. We got to the campsites after hours and the host was kind enough to come out and greet us even though their office had closed. It was $25 for a tent spot. They have clean restrooms and showers, a dishwashing sink, coin-op laundry, games of corn hole, a game/reading room, and a coin-op pool table. Our tent site provided privacy, fire pit, and table. We loved it. We didn’t get to enjoy it much since we got there late and left early, but it was wonderful! We would go back! Only downside was a loud siren going off around 6AM that sounded like an air raid siren from a nearby mill.

      City park

We got here on Sunday and the campground was empty except for one other camper. Lots of sites with electric some have water. Plenty of spigots otherwise around the grounds. Still $25 but a great deal. Glad the town supports it. Police patrol often.

      Nilan Reservoir

Camping on the shore of Nilan Reservoir

Nilan Reservoir Fishing Access site has six campsites on the south west shore of the reservoir.  These sites are small and close together, while you can set up a tent these sites are better suited to RV campers.  Sites are in the open near the road.  Three set of two sites with a vault toilet located with sites 1 & 2 and another at sites 5 & 6.  The fishing access site has a boat launch located by sites 5 & 6 and this is also the location of the fee station.  Site five is the best location for a tent as it has a patch of grass.  Each site has a picnic table and metal fire ring.  This is a trash in-trash out campground.  Site is also dry so be sure to bring all the water you will need.  Price varies by state residency and if you have a fishing license or not.  Price varies from $5 to $18 a night (picture included that shows the break down)

      Benchmark

Access two wilderness areas from once campsite

Benchmark campground allows the hiker or horse rider access to two wilderness areas from the adjacent trail head.  This 25 site campground is set up for camping with or with out horses.  The area has several horse corrals and parking for horse trailers.  Some of the campsites are right next to the horse corrals, but many are far from those corrals.  Each site features a picnic table and metal fire ring.  Sites are well spread apart.  Cost is $10 per night, plus $5 more for a second vehicle.  Campground has two water pumps and vault toilets.  The adjacent trail head is for Straight Creek Trail #212, which will have you in the Bob Marshall Wilderness in a matter of minutes, and if you continue down the trail you will enter the  Scapegoat Wilderness.

      South Fork

Camp and access the Bob Marshall by foot or horse.

South Fork Campground located at the end of Benchmark road is one of the campgrounds to use for accessing the Bob Marshall Wilderness.  This seven site campground and trail head gives the hiker and horseback rider a pleasant campground with plenty of room for horse trailer parking, corrals for the horses and campsites with picnic tables and metal fire rings.  Campground has water available and vault toilets.  ADA sites as well.  Campground sits next to one of the more popular access points for the Bob Marshall Wilderness area and the Continental Divide Trail.  Most of the campsites sit under large pine and fir trees.  Sites are well spread apart.  Your proximity to horse corrals varies by site and if horses are present.

      Okey Dokey

As of this review this campground is under construction. So do your research.

Easy to get to and close to Sun Canyon lodge where you could go for dinner and some internet access.

We like to be close to water so this one was a bit disappointing. The river itself was flowing too fast to play in. And the area around was swampy and too shallow.

I imagine in warmer weather bug spray is needed. maybe the river goes down a bit also.

Other then that typical couple toilets, access to trails. No frills ok place to stay. It will be fun to see what is upgraded.

      Good for a quick overnight

Overall, not a bad place to stop for the night. My friend and I were driving to Glacier and needed a place. We typically tent camp, but neither of us felt comfortable setting up our tent here so we opted to sleep in the car. $10 in the box and you just park your vehicle. Not sure about bathrooms as we just went to the gas station down the road.

      Decent

The RV sites all had electric hookups and they had good space between each. Not a lot of shade, though. Would be nice if there were walkways down to the water so you didn't have to beat through the trees and shrubbery. There is a playground for kids. The lake has lots of open shoreline. There is tons of local traffic. A lot of the same vehicles that just drive through 10-20 times a day. It's a bit annoying. Lastly, they do have port-a-potties around the grounds but they are all riddled with large spiders and generally out of TP.

      Clean, decent campground

This is a clean respectable camping area. No privacy between sites, but they are level and a good deal for $25/night. Our site had electric hookups with water nearby. I don't think there was a camphost. Some large pull throughs and smaller back ins. Playfields are nearby and we heard the happy sound of kids playing in the background. Bathroom/showers were basic but clean.

      Gets the Job done

We were driving from Glacier to Yellowstone and didn't have a campsite.  Found this city park right off the highway going through Choteau that allowed camping in the park for just $10.  Seemed kind of sketchy when we pulled in in the dark at 10pm, but it served its purpose.  Looked like there was only one other camper when we were there.  Just needed to leave $10 in the pay box or pay online via QR code.

      Everything you need and more!

We needed a place to stop for a night while driving from Glacier to Yellowstone and enjoyed it here so much we ended up staying 3 nights! Every one of the staff members (and their parents who were visiting) were so friendly and accommodating, and you could tell they all worked hard and took pride in their campground. Level sites, spotless bathrooms and showers, laundry room, camp store and even mini golf. We would absolutely stay here again.

      Great price for amenities!

We found this campsite on our way to Glacier National Park when we needed a tent site for the evening. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. Only $22 for a site without electric hookups or $24 for one that does. The campground is very clean and offers showers, restrooms, laundry, dishwashing station, picnic table, cooking grill, fire pits, and WiFi included.

      Pleasant Surprise

With no reservations or plans before entering Glacier we stopped here on a whim and were pleasantly surprised. The site is uniquely situated between the northern plains and Rockies and has excellent views of the mountains to the west and grasslands and buttes to the south. The staff were exceptionally nice and the facilities very clean. Overall we really enjoyed our stay at this “hidden” gem.
