    LeFleur's Bluff State Park Campground

    Cypress trees and cement pads

Remember to check your email for your gate access code the gentleman ahead of us did not and it took awhile to get in after a long day of driving. The site we had was right next to the lake which had an active fish population, two gators, and several kayaks. The bathhouse is up on stilts/pillings it was clean and made of logs. the electric service looked new and the water pressure was good. We sat outside even in the 98+ heat to see the activity on the lake. This campground is right off of the interstate but feels like you are in the country.

    Lefleurs Bluff

    Giving the pros and cons

I tent camped on site 2. The BBQ pit was not there on this site. The tent pad was rocky (not sand) so bring a sleeping bad or air mattress if you’re tent camping. Also bring a long extension cord.

Was nice being in front of the water and saw quite a bit of birds. The campground was quiet and relaxing despite being in the middle of the city. The bathrooms were ehhh. Not sure of the men’s, but the women’s only had one useable stall. Three stalls total - on without a door and one was out of order. I didn’t use the showers but definitely weren’t the greatest looking showers I’ve seen at a state park.

I saw a ton of deer, birds, and squirrels and the walking trails were nice and led up to the natural science museum.

The primitive area looked nice for tent camping but basically the same amount of privacy as the spots with electricity and water. Just depends what you’re wanting out of the camping trip.

    Timberlake Campground

    Excellent campground

We camped here Sept. 20-22 while we were in town to volunteer at the Sanderson Farms PGA golf tournament. I was very impressed with the amenities such as the laundry room, pool and bath house. The bath house was very clean and has private showers. The staff was very helpful. It is located right on the Ross Barnett Reservoir so it is a beautiful area. If you need anything, there is a Kroger grocery store right across the street from the campground. I was very satisfied and will stay there again for future tournaments.

    Timberlake Campground

This is a great place for a family looking to camp with hotel like feel l. It literally has everything. This campground wasn't quite my style but we were in the area and needed to spend the night. SA beautiful place none the less. RV sites, tent, monthly rentals. Disc golf course was a huge plus since I love disc golf. It would be great for a family looking to camp but almost have to comfort of hotel like settings!

We arrived late. Interaction with host was pleasant. Cooked dinner and went to bed. Played a game of disc golf in the morning which was great. But the 15$ camp charge we just weren't used to haha.

    LeFleur's Bluff State Park Campground

    Nice little campground

Park is right near Jackson, but you can’t even tell while you’re there. We were originally assigned site 2 after providing the office with the size of our rig, but found that it was much smaller than expected when we arrived. Site 2 would be good for up to a 26 footer, but not much larger. The office folks were very accommodating and we ended up staying at site 10 and it was great! Not too close to any other site, faces the water but not right on the water. Also very close to the facilities but I can’t give a review since we didn’t use them. Thunderstorm came through our second night there, dumped a metric ass ton of rain but all trails and roads were just fine the next morning. The only big con I have for site 10 is that one of the benches for the picnic table was missing/broken. Benches are cement base with a wooden seat and looks like someone not so great at backing their rig may have taken the bench out. Only thing left of it is two cement pillars with some rebar sticking out - bent over and not sharp so it doesn’t pose a safety hazard. We saw a small 5-6 foot gator in the lake on day one and fish are very active. Will definitely be back.

What to do

Wildlife viewing along waterways: LeFleur's Bluff State Park Campground offers exceptional wildlife spotting opportunities. "We stayed next to the river and encountered wildlife right away - gators, rabbits, birds. The trails are lovely, easy walks through cypress swamps and dry forest," shares Leslie E. The park's riverside location provides natural habitat for diverse species.

Disc golf courses: Timberlake Campground maintains an on-site disc golf course that draws enthusiasts. Daniel S. notes, "Disc golf course was a huge plus since I love disc golf." The course weaves through the campground property with multiple basket positions suitable for various skill levels.

Water recreation access: The Ross Barnett Reservoir provides fishing and boating opportunities. At Yogi on the Lake - Jellystone Pelahatchie, campers enjoy direct water access. "We stayed on the lakes edge, had visits from geese, ducks, rabbits and squirrels. Beautiful and very clean area," writes Shirley B. The lake supports kayaking, fishing, and swimming during warmer months.

What campers like

Urban convenience with natural settings: Campers appreciate the combination of natural environments with proximity to urban amenities. At LeFleur's Bluff State Park Campground, Courtney B. observed, "Easily accessible from highway but felt like we were not in the middle of the city." The park sits within Jackson city limits yet maintains a secluded atmosphere.

Clean, modern facilities: Movietown RV Park earns praise for its maintenance standards. "Clean place and friendly staff. This is a good stop to stay a night when needed," reports April J. Though primarily an RV park, the property offers cabin options for those seeking yurt-like camping near Madison, Mississippi.

Family activities: Seasonal programming enhances camping experiences, especially for families with children. "We spent a weekend in October here and absolutely loved it. The trick or treating is the best. Start right when you can because there are so many sites offering candy or haunted areas," shares Melissa G. about her experience at Yogi on the Lake - Jellystone Pelahatchie.

What you should know

Gate access systems: Several campgrounds implement security measures requiring access codes. Nick W. advises about LeFleur's Bluff: "Remember to check your email for your gate access code the gentleman ahead of us did not and it took awhile to get in after a long day of driving." This security feature protects campers but requires preparation.

Varying site conditions: Site quality can differ significantly within the same campground. At Timberlake Campground, Joy R. cautions, "Parts of it is very well cared for & maintained, but a large area needs serious attention. Our site was in that area. The concrete pads were badly broken & uneven." Request newer or recently renovated sites when making reservations.

Seasonal water feature operations: Water amenities may not operate year-round or as advertised. Claire M. noted at Yogi on the Lake: "Water park was ice cold so we didn't get to use it." Call ahead to confirm operational status of waterslides, pools, and splash pads, especially during shoulder seasons.

Tips for camping with families

Nature center access: LeFleur's Bluff State Park Campground connects to educational facilities. "One way the trail leads to a dam with old structures and great fishing opportunities, the other fork leads you to the museum of natural science! My children loved that!!!" shares Leslie E. The museum offers interactive exhibits with standard admission fees.

Indoor activity options: Alternative-to-yurt camping options around Madison, Mississippi include facilities with rainy day accommodations. Claire M. appreciates that at Yogi on the Lake, "Activity center was awesome especially for rainy days. Kiddos were obsessed with jumping pillow." These features provide entertainment regardless of weather conditions.

Seasonal programming: Holiday-themed events create memorable experiences for children. "The spook trail is top tier! And there were plenty of activities throughout the day for the kids," reports Melissa G. about October festivities at Yogi on the Lake. Check campground calendars for scheduled activities during your visit.

Tips from RVers

Site leveling challenges: RVers should prepare for potentially uneven sites. Ashley S. experienced difficulties at Yogi on the Lake: "The site was very sloped so getting in the camper was difficult because the steps were so high off the ground." Bring additional leveling blocks even when reserving designated RV sites.

After-hours check-in procedures: Movietown RV Park accommodates late arrivals with a simple system. John N. describes, "We got in late so we registered at the closed office door by putting our $27 payment in an envelope in the door slot. How convenient!" This self-service option benefits travelers arriving outside standard business hours.

Site spacing variations: The amount of privacy between sites varies by campground and section. At Timberlake Campground, J K. found, "The sites are clean, level and I believe they all have hookups up to 50amp." Albert H. appreciates that at Movietown RV Park, "Spacious lots so you arent right up on each other... These are friendly people you can sit a chair or 2 outside."
