      Flint Creek Waterpark

      Nice Park

The best sites are the first come first serve sites. These sites are in the Mohawk area. I would avoid the Kahaka area if you want a beach area as there isn’t one. All the bathrooms have no air conditioning. There are boat launches and many sites that you can anchor your boat at or near by.

      Keesler AFB FamCamp

      Small spaces and disappointing experience

We reserved 4 months ago, only to get there and find out there may be an issue with our dogs (2 max and we have 3...well behaved dachshunds. When we reserved, they "penciled us in". No deposit and no information, other than our name and dates. Got there for our reservation and told that we cant have three dogs there and either have to board one or leave. When i said we had nowhere to go, they were willing to let us stay one night so we could find other accomodations for the next few days, but after that warm welcome, even one night was not an option. Never were we told pets would be an issue, we never got a confirmation email that mentioned pets, and then to arrive and find out we had to find somewhere else to stay was disappointing to say the least. We were able to stay the night at Shield, so we went over there to work on our plans for the next few days. So glad we did, as the sites were much larger, much more private and the office staff was very accomadating with our last minute reservation. Apparently Keesler is adding sites, so it may be better next year, but currently the sites are close together with a fire pit in the center. For the hour we did sit in our site, we had to keep the windows closed because of the smoke. Another issue...the drive in was sketchy for a high profile 5th wheel, with low hanging trees and narrow streets. Lastly, for those lookong for the security and conveniences of staying at a famcamp, this fam camp is off base.

      Buccaneer State Park Campground

Huge Park with Tons of Amenities

This park is giant! There are probably over 200 sites for camping in this park with beachfront sites and even primitive drive up sites for tent camping back in the woods. The park has 2 shower areas and 4 bathrooms on site as well as multiple playgrounds for the kiddos and even a water park! It is located directly across the street from the Gulf of Mexico and has its own private beach. I stayed in the primitive camping sites for 2 nights because all other sites were reserved for the weekend and it was great. No electric hookup or water but the sites are privately tucked away in the woods and only cost 15$ per night. If you want, you can stay beachfront for 48$ and I believe the regular sites with hookups and water are around $30 per night. The park itself is very well maintained and has ice and drinks for sale in the front office. The employees are extremely nice and helpful and will even tell you about fun things to do in town while you’re there. Definitely the biggest and one of the nicest campgrounds/state parks I’ve stayed in. Worth the trip!

      Best Campground ever!

      Best campground!

This is the best campground we have ever been in (camping for over 15 years). Customer service is hands down the best we have ever experienced. It started when we made our reservation. Angela was very friendly and helpful. By the end of the call, we felt we had made a new friend. This customer service continues throughout your stay. This is the only campground we have been in that the staff greet you as you pull in and take you right to your site. They direct you into your site which you are greeted with a welcome sign with all family members’ names (even the four legged family members). Once you are set up, you then go register. A welcoming way to start your stay. Throughout our staff, Jimmy, Angela and their staff did everything to make sure we had a wonderful three weeks. They care about the campers and the experience you have. During a severe storm, the owner talked to us to insure we were aware of which building to use for safety along with written instructions.

Clean, safe, convenient, friendly, fun place, cool pool, great gathering areas, great patios and great dog park. The sites are level and hook-ups are convenient. Nice landscaping exists between each site. The park is very quiet, peaceful and relaxing. Trash pick-up is at your site every morning. Bathhouse has 4 guest bathrooms like you would find in a house. Each has a sink, vanity, toilet and very large shower. By far the nicest I have ever seen at any campground.

The park is immaculately maintained and is a most "relaxing" place to stay for a few days, a week or more. But the thing that makes this park a clear "ten" is the attention paid to the guests by the owners. They are both the most helpful and accommodating RV park owners we have ever had the pleasure to know. We are definitely going to return for a long stay at this park.

      Buccaneer State Park Campground

      Close to the beach

Site is hit and miss. Beautiful pool closed due to covid.

Primitive camping looked great. Loops are dependent on site—shady spots on the exterior are great but the interior spots can be garbage. The spots along beach Blvd have a great view but it’s in a parking lot next to the water park.

The women’s bath houses were terrible—mildew, frogs, mosquitoes, always a running tap.

      Boomtown Casino RV Park

      Queen of Hearts

The park was filled with friendly campers who made this place enjoyable. The price was a win. The site itself was very basic without Wi-Fi and an old fashion looking water pump. There is a cut field for dogs to run however it is only fenced on 3 sides. Location is in walking distance to the Boomtown Casino.

      Flint Creek Waterpark

      Beautiful lake view

Second time at Flint Creek in Wiggins Mississippi. Stayed during the middle of January of 2021 on site 29.

The back of the site backs up to the lake, with plenty of beach to fish or hangout. This site would be perfect during the summer if you wanted to swim. The site had full hookups with 50amp connection. Plenty of space between sites. Also there are several shower/restrooms located throughout the Seneca Campground.

Only thing negative about the site was that it was not level. I had to add an extra step to get in and out of my travel trailer.

      Will definitely go back.

    Guide to Ocean Springs

Campgrounds near Ocean Springs, Mississippi offer diverse outdoor accommodations including tent sites, RV hookups, and yurt camping options. The region sits at low elevation with a humid subtropical climate featuring mild winters and hot, humid summers with average temperatures ranging from 45°F in January to 90°F in July. Annual rainfall exceeds 65 inches, making waterproof gear essential for camping trips throughout the year.

    What to do

Fishing access points: Several campgrounds provide direct water access for anglers. At Flint Creek Waterpark, campers can fish from their sites or nearby beaches. "We stayed during the second weekend of Dec. weather was brisk with a small amount of rain on Saturday. Had a beautiful view of the water where you could fish," notes a visitor who appreciated the waterfront location.

Nature trails exploration: Many campgrounds feature walking paths through native forests. McLeod Park Campground offers a riverside trail leading to scenic spots. "We walked the nature trail and enjoyed the river views from our campsite," shares one camper who visited in October. The trail requires careful footing due to roots and uneven terrain.

Water recreation activities: Swimming, canoeing and water sports are popular at local campgrounds. Sugar Sands Campground provides waterfront areas for various activities. "Clean and nature at his best, peace full family oriented. Waterfront with swimming and canoeing! Concession area and multiple clean showers and bathrooms, open all year!" explains a recent visitor.

    What campers like

Concrete pads at established sites: Many campers appreciate the level concrete pads at select campgrounds. At McLeod Park Campground, "Nearly every site has a level concrete pad and many have full hookups. Lots of trees," reports a satisfied visitor. These pads help with easier setup and stay cleaner during wet weather.

Shaded camping areas: The natural tree cover provides relief from summer heat. Sugar Sands Campground features wooded sites that maintain cooler temperatures. "Verry clean and peaceful campground on the river and family friendly," notes a camper who enjoyed the natural setting. The 72-acre property offers plenty of shade throughout.

Security features: Some campgrounds provide enhanced security measures. At Mobile Oaks RV Resort, "Pretty quiet park with security gates and cameras. Alot of nice size trees with a 14 acre lake and swimming pool. They sell propane on site also," explains a monthly visitor. The gated access requires an entry code after hours.

    What you should know

Seasonal crowds: Many waterfront campgrounds experience significant crowding during summer months. Regarding McLeod Park, one visitor noted, "Beautiful campground, boat launch and water access are nice, but the most crowded park we have been to! You're VERY close to your neighbors and there is little room for parking."

Insect presence: The Gulf Coast climate supports active insect populations, especially during warmer months. Some campgrounds report more issues than others. One McLeod Park camper warned, "The roaches THE ROACHES WERE HORRIBLE. Especially at night as soon as you'd open up the door they were flying EVERYWHERE, we camped in August."

Yurt camping Ocean Springs, Mississippi options: For those seeking glamping accommodations, Gulfport KOA Holliday offers alternative structures beyond traditional tent sites. "The staff was very nice. The campground was very nice. It is only 4 months old. All the amenities you need and expect from a KOA. The only difference is that's new and not run down," reports a recent visitor.

    Tips for camping with families

Splash pad amenities: Several parks offer water play areas for children. McLeod Park provides a dedicated splash pad alongside traditional playground equipment. "We enjoyed our mid October stay. Great playground and splash pad for the children," shares a visitor, noting these features remained operational into the fall season.

Halloween camping events: Fall brings special activities to many campgrounds. At Flint Creek Waterpark, seasonal celebrations create memorable experiences: "We stayed here during Halloween and it was pretty crowded. We prefer more secluded camping sites, and this campground provides plenty of space despite being so packed. There were several RV campgrounds that had decorations and trick-or-treating."

Wildlife viewing opportunities: Local campgrounds host diverse animal species. Keesler AFB FamCamp offers convenient wildlife viewing: "This campground is located outside the gates and next door to a beautiful park that has fishing, disc golf, and a splash pad playground for the kids." Visitors might spot native birds and small mammals during their stay.

    Tips from RVers

Site leveling challenges: Some campgrounds require additional equipment for leveling RVs. At Flint Creek Waterpark, "The only thing negative about the site was that it was not level. I had to add an extra step to get in and out of my travel trailer," reports an RVer who stayed at site 29. Bringing leveling blocks is recommended.

Staff assistance at check-in: Several parks offer personalized help during arrival. At All About Relaxing RV Park, "Arriving in the dark and rain, we were met at the gate and escorted in. He guided me back into the spot and got us settled in. The park is quite and the staff is super," explains a grateful RVer. This service proves especially valuable for first-time RVers or during difficult conditions.

Off-base military camping: Military families can access dedicated facilities without staying on base. Keesler AFB FamCamp provides this convenience: "This campground is located outside the gates and next door to a beautiful park that has fishing, disc golf, and a splash pad playground for the kids." Active duty and retired military personnel can make reservations with proper ID verification.
