Sweet spot on the beach

August in the UP is VERY busy. Publce, private, forest and state campgrounds either reserve early or go fast. Woodland is owned by the town of Grand Marais. Tons of tent and RV spaces. Showers, laundry and right on the beach. Well kept, quiet at night, $30/night for no hookups. I was happy to find it!

Not the best, not the worst

Campground is ok. Has a nice lookout over Lake Superior. Sites is essentially in a field though, little to no shade. Decent playground for kids and everything in town is within walking distance. Kind of expensive considering we were just tenting and overall very cramped. Most sites are small.

Perfect place on lake superior

This was our first campground experience with our RV. Not being sure what to expect but we really enjoyed our stay. We had a back in site, very close to the bathhouse which was nice and clean. Cleaned daily &closed for cleaning between 9-10am. Our site was right across from Lake Superior with beautiful sunset and sunrise views. There was a dog park for dogs to enjoy. Location is in the town of Grand Marais so you are a 10 minute walk into town for stores & dining. Very quiet campground, perfect for relaxing. Long staircase leading down to the beach. We will definitely be back.

Beautiful Campground

it’s very lovely here, my favourite part is that lake superior is a walk away. If you are an adventurous person as well there is a trail that goes through the woods that leads to sable falls! People are kind and respectful for the most part. It can be hard tent camping in a campground because any outside noise is rough on sleep. But the campground in her real is lovely all around.

Beautiful lakeside campground

We were lucky enough to get into their overflow area. The lake front sites aren't exactly on the lake but close. This allows access to Lake Superior without having to go through campers' sites. Great spot for rock hounds!

Clean, friendly and safe place to spend the entire summer!

We parked our Fifthwheel all summer for the last 4 years. Came up every weekend and spent 4-5 weeks as well. Many friends were made and so much to see and do! The town welcomes all campers as family! Clean bath houses every morning and night. Groundskeeper are awesome and go out of their way to accommodate our site.

Absolutely beautiful

Nice little town with views of Lake Superior and close to Pictured Rocks, however it’s a first come situation. We were lucky enough to get a spot right off the bluff and enjoyed the sunsets each night. The stairs and walkway to the beach were fabulous and they had the cutest hut and swing at the end of the trail. This was in June of 2020.

Crowded but worth the views

Unless you somehow get lucky and are able to stay at one the the lake front properties, expect little room for your site.  No reservations are taken so arrive early to walk to campground a discover which sites are leaving that day. Kind of a hassle because it’s a campground at the end of the middle of nowhere and with no guarantees of a stay it’s enough to raise your blood pressure.  BUT the surrounding area is SO WORTH the initial stress.  Arrive earlier in the week to grab you spot.

Lake Superior views

Really nice park, views of Lake Superior, stairs down to Lake Superior beach, Electric hookups, cable TV hookups, sites big enough to park your RV & boat, firewood is available. In Grand Marais, so stores & gasoline are available near by, don’t take reservations. First come, first served, fills up pretty fast, especially during July. Fish cleaning station, dump stations, Laundry, nice shower house.

Shore of Lake Superior

This is a municipal campground whose main attraction is the location on the dunes of Grand Marais on the shore of Lake Superior. It is located on a bluff with stairs leading to Agate beach  and beautiful sunset views over the lake. The campsites are close together, but there are many shade trees, 2 bathhouses and when we were there, very quiet, respectful campers. It is about a one hour drive to Munising, MI where you can take a boat cruise to view the Painted Rock National Shoreline. It is also a short drive to numerous waterfalls and hiking trails. Most sites have water and electric hookups. many local folks sell firewood and fire rings are at each site.

Nice campground

The sites are good sizes, right on Lake superior, which gave us amazing views! Bring quarters if you want a shower! And lots of quarters if you don't shower quickly lol

Beautiful setting near lake, restaurants and groceries

We stayed at this campground in late July 2017. The sites are first come first serve. We got lucky and snagged a great site for our 41' 5th wheel just as someone was getting ready to leave. The campground was totally full. There is water and electric only. But, there is a pump truck you can contract with to pump your tanks as needed. We have only planned to stay for 2 days, but because the setting was so nice, we stayed for 7 nights! Definitely one of our favorite camping experiences. Lake Superior feels like an ocean.

We will definitely try to make it back one day!

My favorite Campground !

On the shore of Lake Superior, yet a short walk to town for food, ice, groceries etc. No sewer hook ups but they have good WiFi and cable tv. Clean hot showers, but you do need quarters. Love it there.

Well Kept U.P. Paradise

I unexpectedly ended up staying here, and I'm so glad the circumstances led me to it. I had my heart set on stay at Twelve Mile Beach Campground but that and Hurricane River were both full. I drove back to Grand Marias and stayed here. Overall a wonderful experienc. Tons of spots. For a township park rates were reasonable. A little better signage for the tent only area would have been nice, i ended up setting up on a full hookup site and payed significantly more than a tent site would have costed. Restrooms were clean and nice, awesome hot showered, BUT they are all closed for an hour in the morning for cleaning. I'm all for a good clean bathroom, but 9 to 10 a.m. is prime bathroom time in my experience. So semi inconvenient.
