I ask that you bring your own firewood! Otherwise, you are free to leave a small donation if you use any of the wood I have on property! I may or may not be on the property during your stay. Featured in MotherEarthNews Magazine! HERE

WINTER CAMPING: 4 WHEEL DRIVE REQUIRED!! I have bedding but I suggest you bring sleeping bags rated for sub-zero temps as the cabin is NOT insulated. You are welcome to bring a small buddy-heater with you, or, one can be available to rent. The clear panels do act as a greenhouse and the cabin can retain warmth during daylight hours. Read my reviews HERE

SPRING CAMPING: We like to call this mud season. Along with that comes the emerging of blood-sucking vermin (aka mosquitos and black flies). This is Maine. Please bring repellent. There is a bug net in the cabin to put over the futon.

SUMMER CAMPING: Please see Spring Camping and then remember that there may be a total of 10 days that the temperatures may be unbearable (but the garden loves it).

I cannot control the weather. I just provide a super awesome place. I am always available to help make your stay top-notch! Without you, there is no me..

Please: no check-in's after 8pm! Thank you for understanding!

The Passadumkeag River down the street offers great fishing opportunities! A short drive to the Penobscot River as well..

Sunkhaze Meadows National Wildlife Refuge is a shirt drive with a few hiking trails.

Baxter State Park & Acadia National Park are each an hour and a half away (just in opposite directions).

Here you will find remote camping, fishing and boating with impressive views. Park Map available: https://www.maine.gov/dacf/parksearch/PropertyGuides/PDF_GUIDE/seboeisguide.pdf Campers, boaters, fishermen and wildlife watchers at the 21,369-acre Seboeis Public Lands enjoy a large expanse of clear water studded by wooded islands and framed in the north by Mt. Katahdin. These Public Lands encompass 95 percent of the Seboeis Lake shoreline, all of Northwest Pond, the southwest shore of Endless Lake, and the entire shoreline of Turtle Pond. Seboeis is a favorite destination for fishermen throughout the year, providing both cold water and warm water species. Landlocked salmon, splake, white and yellow perch, small mouth bass and chain pickerel are caught in Seboeis and Endless lakes. Brook trout are found in Turtle Pond and several tributary streams that enter Seboeis. In fall, hunters frequent Seboeis Public Lands in search of deer, moose, bear and waterfowl. Seboeis has 15 campsites, including ones on wooded islands with sandy beaches. Six sites are accessible by vehicle (and one involves a short walk); the others require a boat. The surrounding hills are gently rolling, and the lake shoreline has an interesting mix of rocky, boulder-strewn stretches interspersed with sand beaches and secluded coves. Only a few camps (privately leased) can be seen along Seboeis Lake's 19 miles of shoreline. Abundant wetlands (primarily at the southern end of Seboeis Lake) and productive fisheries support a diverse array of wildlife. Seboeis Lake has high numbers of nesting loons. Bald eagles, ospreys, belted kingfishers, mergansers and common terns all rely on the lake's abundant fish as a vital food source. Visitors may spot snowshoe hare, ruffed grouse, coyote, fox, beaver and otter in the vicinity and may see moose feeding in coves. Snowmobilers pass along the land's western boundary in winter, traveling on a major trail (ITS Connector 111) between Brownville and the Millinocket area. The Seboeis Lands include junctures with ITS 83 and 82 that lead off toward Medway and Lincoln respectively. ATV riders can enjoy 12 miles of designated trail on shared-use roads within the property.

    Amazing

The game mechanics are smooth, and the controls are intuitive, so it’s easy to get the hang of it, whether you’re a beginner or more experienced. I haven’t encountered any glitches or performance issues, which is a big plus, especially when you’re in the middle of an intense round. check out https://pandamasterdownload.com/

Nice location, still has the feel of being newly constructed

Checked out these sites for an upcoming visit. Stayed down the road at Sandbank this time. If you are tenting this is preferable as Sandbank is open to RV's and is noisier.

Some changes to regulations since Jean's review in 2021.

No fire permit is needed if you use the fire ring provided

First-come-first-served only for a single night. Reservations from recreation.gov are recommended for longer stays or on weekends. $8 reservation fee, free camping up to 14 days, no refunds.

Her photo of the campground map is still accurate.

Lily Bay State Park - Dunn Point Campground

The fact that we had water access from our campsite makes this a 5-star experience for me. Sites were private enough and showers were available, although the "comfort station" is about a mile walk away from the campsites. The electrical outlets didn't work in any of the bathrooms, either, so bringing a blowdryer was useless. But that's just a minor inconvenience--everything else was great.

    Unknown Lakes campsites

    Amazing Beauty, Amazing Camping Experience

Stayed for two nights after Labor Day. Only one other camper in the park and we never saw them but occasionally we could hear a voice. Other than that, it was quiet.

There are about 9 campsites, each with a picnic table, a fire ring and a large camping and parking area for each site.

The best feature of this campground is the view. There is a Lake on both east and west sides of the camping area. Three sites are view of both lakes from the camp sites. I woke up to a view of one lake and my wife saw the other lake from our camper.

The campground has three pit toilets. The large size of the camp sites makes it feel more secluded than it is

We did hear something like a lumber mill operating one morning. Not sure what that was all about.

A Ranger stopped by and visited with us. He then offered us a brochure on the camping area we are planning to visit next. Nice customer service right at our camp site!

    Great Views

Great spot is you don't mind dry camping. Amazing views of the surrounding mountains. There are two sites and plenty of space between them. When I went (labor day weekend) there was a porta-potty about 1.5 miles down the road. Plenty of trail heads nearby. About 30 mins to downtown Greenville.

    Katahdin Shadows Campground

    Friendly But Very Close

What others have said is true. The staff were all very friendly and the pool and playground are well maintained. However, the spaces are very close together and there are no scenic views. The other drawback is the number of seemingly full time units. These units had wooden “improvements” over and around the campers indicating the RVs haven’t moved in a while and won’t move any time soon. Overall, it didn’t “feel” like a campground. It felt more like a mobile home park

    Absolutely Wonderful

My large family and I spent a week here. First, the campground is easy to find and making reservations is a snap! The owners are two of the greatest people I’ve met. They are more than friendly and accommodating. They work hard keeping the entire property neat including the bathhouse. Honestly, it’s the cleanest bathroom/shower house I’ve seen. There is a playground for kids and plenty of room at each site for them to play. My family and I agree, this place is incredible and you would be foolish to go elsewhere.

    Great quiet spot

This is a great camping spot. The only bad thing is the mosquitos. On sunny and windy days they are much less of an issue. The three times I have camped here I’ve only seen one other group of people. The water is also great for swimming. The road is bumpy but I cleared it driving slowly and carefully with my honda HRV 2019.

    Beautiful quiet spot

We spent a few weeks here in the fall while passing through Maine. There is a private forested area on the property that is perfect for hiking and foraging. The best part is the farm stand where you can buy delicious fresh baked goods. Power/water/sewer worked great. We had full cell reception with T-mobile and Verizon. Farm dogs were very friendly and got along with our puppies. We will be coming back the next time we are in the area!

    Piscataquis Point

A hidden gem in central Maine

Spent a night at Piscataquis Point and had a great time! This was a very quiet and peaceful place but easily accessible from multiple directions and only like 20 mins from I-95. This spacious area has all the amenities covered allowing you to unplug and unwind like you’re in the middle of nowhere, the handcrafted touches from the outhouse to the fire pit add a   unique, welcoming and comfortable feel. Sitting next to a warm, crackling fire listening to the sound of the river was truly the cherry on top and made for a very relaxing evening. This spot is somewhat of a hidden gem, clean and well up kept, this is the type of place that you’ll want to revisit again and again.

    River Front

This is a favorite spot of ours to stay.

The waterfront sites are absolutely beautiful. If you have a group of friends going its nice to be close. It can get loud in the summer months, you can tube the river and end at the campground. Sites have no hookups, so be prepared for that. Definitely get out on the water to enjoy the view of Mt. Katahdin.

**If for some dumb reason your GPS says to take the Old State Road instead of the Golden Road and you're towing a camper...DONT.

    Wilderness Edge Campground

    Millinocket Gem

We stay at Wilderness Edge every time we visit Millinocket. The campground has all of your basics and is a great gateway spot for Baxter State Park or ATV trails.

The sites are better suited for smaller RV setups but it is not impossible to get a bigger camper in. We have a 30 foot toy hauler and have fit in our spots ok. We don't recommend coming in after dark- it can be difficult to navigate. Another thing to note is how long your hoses and electric cords are, you may need to stretch them under/behind your camper depending on site location.

The staff here are fantastic and have helped us on multiple occasions. Our last trip we had to extend a night because our truck broke down and needed more time, it was no problem. We have also had to buy a new 30 AMP power cord after store hours because ours was making us nervous.

Not that happy with these sites, yes, they are disperment sites, but it's really a parking lot with 10 free sites right next to each other, with maybe a few rocks between sites. Branch Lake Camping area

Wonderful campground and a beautiful lake

This is a hidden gem. We really enjoyed this campground and the good people staying there. I would go back and stay longer next time.

We stayed 7 nights in site # 24. We had water & electric and there is a dump station onsite. Our site was waterfront we were right off the beach. The site was level and had some shade. If you have a small camper you can pull in forward and your door opens to the water. I couldn't pull in I had to back in yet having the dinette overlooking the lake was nice. Everyone was so nice and helpful. The lake has 26.5 miles perimeter  and a maximum depth of 124'. We had loons come in close to our site. Saw an Eagle too.

We sat our chairs in the water and cooled down everyday and floated on our noodles. Great relaxing place.

The owners Shawn and Margaret do a nice job maintaining the campground and enjoy taking a dip at the swim beach like the rest of us.

There is a playground, a nice area to keep kayaks if your not on the water.  There were adirondack chairs along the beach and the nice grassy area overlooking the lake. There are boat docks for smaller boats and some floating docks you can swim out to and enjoy.

There is a small store where the office is and a group bonfire pit every evening many of the people gather there.

There are some seasonal sites some are set up so nice.

They offer a pump out service twice a week which is nice.

The town of Ellsworth  has everything you need. Walmart, home depot, the Global beverage store, laundry places, and best of all Martha's Diner. The best eggs benedict with ham. Shawn recommended it.  Bangor isn't far either.

There is a vintage/antiques place called Relics that has great finds.

Dorr Lobster and seafood market serves lobster & crab rolls and sells fresh seafood. We bought some cooked, picked lobster meat and made lobster Alfredo for dinner.  Very tasty!

Finn's Irish pub is good to. we had a good meal there it's on Main street. My husband had corned beef and cabbage I had Shepherds pie.

We found a great mobile Repairman that fixed our slide out while we were there. It broke the 2nd week of June and we couldn't find anyone to fix it. His name is Chris Burbelo his number is (207) 322-4526. He did a great job it was a cable slide and we'd had the motor & gear replaced before we left florida. It wasn't bolted to the wall correctly & it tore from the wall broke the chains and the cables all went slack. We spent 2 months with the slide stuck in. Chris works at a RV place in service and does side work on his spare time. He did several things for us and did a great job. Worth a million!

Thank you Shawn and Margaret for the great experience and Chris B for fixing our slide out.

Big Moose Inn Cabins and Campground

Nice small campground near Baxter State park

We were in site # AB. It backed up to the road yet was nice other than the traffic. The traffic slowed down at night. The owner Laurie is nice and her staff was great. Roger was a big help with us getting into the site & settled. The site we were in you need 2 water hoses so he brought us a second one. It was a little tight backing in yet the site was big.

We had water & electric and the dump station is in town on the way out. It's at the visitor center and there is a small fee for using it. There is a bar & restaurant onsite. They aren't open all week yet more towards the weekend. The food is good and the bar (the loose Moose) had lots of people in it. Love the fried beets and wings.  They have entertainment on the weekends. The girls working in the bar were busy working hard to keep everyone happy.

There is a big pull through site near our site you get the entire road and several sites.

There is a small boat launch onsite and a captain that does moose boat tours. The cabins looked nice too there are several on the water. The lodge is very nice too.

Next door is the Northern Woods trading post. Great lobster l, oysters, charcuterie platter and a good Margarita. The little store has some nice souvenirs and meats, cheeses, pizzas, sandwiches and drinks.

Onsite is Northern outfitters they take people white water rafting. You can do it right from the campground. People do come from all over to raft there. Across the street on the other side of the dyke there is a small swim beach and a sea plane ride operation.

As you leave the campground and you go right Baxter state park is on the same road and not far from the campground. There is a swim beach at Baxter and hiking trails. Mt Katahdin is close by. The park is mostly dirt road yet not bad. It was $16.00 to enter the park for a day. If your going to go into the park 3 times or more buy the pass it's cheaper.

Across the street from the campground we took the Golden road north to compass pond for a bit. People were picking wild blueberries. We were looking for moose around the bogs.

To the left leaving the campground there is a place called River divers which had specials on their meals. People were not too excited about the food but they had an excellent spicy margarita.

There's not much in town but we needed a hardware store and found one and grocery stores.

    Wilderness Edge Campground

    Wonderful Place!

I would give this place a million stars if I could. It is a beautiful campground with many excellent rustic spots if you want to be in the wilderness and sites with electricity and water and fantastic Wi-Fi and cell service if you want to have a little wilderness but still be connected. The facilities are also very clean with wonderful showers that you don’t have to deposit quarters in. But the best thing about this campground is the wonderful people. I’m traveling with my husband, who is through hiking the Appalachian Trail. We were on week 12 of our journey. My husband was on the trail for three days when our camper van broke down and was in a remote place, not knowing anyone, and was telling the ladies my situation when I checked in. Vicky made a call and got me an appointment with a mechanic who was terrific and fixed my car. I was able to pick up my husband at the hundred-mile wilderness as planned. I did not think checking in with them that day that was even going to be a possibility, so they are absolutely amazing, kind, and generous people. It’s great in these times to see that there is still genuine kindness in the world. Please stay here.
